  • Sort of my first time. I've listened to the Smashing Pumpkins cover of Landslide a ton. But I didn't know Fleetwood Mac actually ROCKED this hard. Lindsey Birmingham's guitar playing is absolutely beautiful and I have to listen to it more. Thank you for hanging out for my first time reaction to Fleetwood Mac's Go Your Own Way.

Not only did Stevie and Lindsey break up during the making of this album, but John and Christine McVie also broke up around the same time. However, they all knew they were magic as a band so they agreed to continue as a band even though they had all gone through breakups with each other. They also agreed to do solo stuff and then come back together as a band frequently because they were too good as a band to break up. They did this for many years. Fleetwood Mac was just one of the greatest bands of all time. Their album Rumours was the best selling album until it was dethroned by Michael Jackson's Thriller!!!

They were a couple for roughly 8 years, the same amount of time that Chris and John had been married. At the time of this concert, they had been broken up more than twice as long as they'd been together, but you could tell that every time they were in a room together, it opened up old wounds. I think Lindsey resented Stevie's solo success and Stevie resented the fact that he only let her have two or three songs per album even though she was writing more that Lindsey and Christine combined.

This song is from the concert video "The Dance". The whole thing is epic. If you want to see Lindsey go off the rails on a guitar solo, watch I'm So Afraid. It's amazing. Also, Silver Springs from that show is breathtaking. The dynamic between Lindsey and Stevie during that performance is beyond emotional. If you react to either of those songs, I would absolutely love it, but if not, you still owe it to yourself to watch those two performances. ...or the whole friggin' show, honestly.

Sebs, what you need to remember when you listen to performances prior to say 1980 is how important live shows were. Whatever was recorded was then played on the radio to promote sales of the albums upcoming concerts. When we went to concerts, we EXPECTED to hear EXACTLY what we paid for. Performers couldn’t hide behind synths added in post-recording. I will say we were blessed with an abundance of extremely talented artists, many of whom still rock concert halls. I will admit to being addicted to watching you & your dear wife, Allie, experience the music that colors my life. 🇺🇸💙

That is a 1979 Rick Turner Model 1-C-LB guitar. Which is designed to give the tone of an acoustic but packs some serious electronics. The only other performer I've ever seen play one is John Mayer. It has a unique sound for sure & it will cost you. A new one will set you back 7 to 9k & the older ones many times that much. Early on Lindsey played Fenders & Stratocasters but once he got the Turner it became his on stage go to guitar. I've never heard the Pumpkins cover of Landslide but I'd strongly recommend that you watch the original.

Rick's son here to say that Dad made guitars for so many people, it's unbelievable. Mom worked for the Airplane, Grateful Dead, and Doobie Brothers. Crosby was a friend of Dad's. Santana lived with my Aunt. Imagine the people that came to the house back in the day and what their input meant to his luthiery. Get your hands on one of these Model 1's, Sebs. Lindsey’s guitar is a custom made for him model one by Rick Turner. He passed away recently. Lindsey met him and asked him to build him a guitar that would have more punch for their live concerts. He used to play a Gibson Les Paul, but because he plays with his entire hand instead of a pick, he needed a punchier electric guitar. And yes, this is Lindsey’s angry upset break up song about Stevie who is singing along with him. Stevie wrote Dreams about Lindsey. They have written many songs about each other.

This video has been on my watch later list for awhile now. I'm 42, I saw this concert when i was 15 or 16... Fleetwood Mac was my very favorite band back then, I only listened to classic rock. Yes, please more Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks!

Lindsey plays a Rick Turner Model 1-C-LB guitar, which is a semi-hollow-body electric guitar that's designed to give a very acoustic sound. One of the unusual things about it is that the pick-up can be rotated, which changes the relationship with the strings and changes the sound. Lindsey is an unreal guitarist - all finger-plucked and he uses a combination guitar and banjo style of picking. His playing is so complex that they have to have 2 guitarists to replace him if he's unable to tour. He sometimes will play a 12-string guitar as well, again finger-plucked and played kind of banjo style. The only other guitarist that I've ever heard that can play in this style is Roger McGuinn of The Byrds (such as on the intro to Turn, Turn, Turn) from the 60s.

Something a lot of people don't believe is that Fleetwood Mac were the hardest partying band bar none between horrendous fights and drug fuelled celebrating they wrecked hotel rooms like no other...Tour manager on Australian tour noticed cartons of corona's always opened but rarely ever consumed. The mystery solved when he watched a show backstage.
Dozens of bottle tops lined up on a touring case each bottle top filled with cocaine ready to go. The most dysfunctional off stage but the most professional on stage. They were astounding to see live.
Mick Fleetwood made a huge drum setup look small. And Stevie was the queen of the divas.

They were older then, it was 1997. Still performing amazingly. However, Christine McVie recently died. Without her, the band will probably never perform as Fleetwood Mac again, but Stevie, Lindsay, and Mick all perform indecently, still. In their late 70s now, and still awesome live!

It's hard to beat the energy that Fleetwood Mac brings to the stage. It's magnetic. Their internal drama did something brilliant to their sound. Every single member is a master musician in their own right. Dig into this band. You WON'T regret it.

Over 20 years after the release of the Rumors album and many years since the band played together, they gave such an incredible performance in "The Dance" concert.
Yes, do "Silver Spring" (by Stevie) next and then "Songbird" by Christine.

I had the rumors album back in the 70s and love Fleetwood Mac. Have not listened to them in a long time and when I heard the chain on guardians of the galaxy two I rediscovered how much I love Fleetwood Mac music and especially watching their live performances, Amazon prime series, daisy Jones and the six was loosely based on a book written about the relationships in the band Fleetwood Mac. And Stevie Nicks said she absolutely loved the miniseries could see herself like a mirror as the last three episodes. You can go your own way is one of my favorites by them, so so glad that you enjoyed it as well!

His guitar is a Rick Turner Model 1…a one of one built for Lindsey…super versatile and will be one of the most valuable guitars all time when he’s no longer with us, thankfully he’s doing good and still rocking

Fleetwood Mac is one of my all time favorite bands. I was fortunate to see them live in concert. I was fortunate to be able to see a lot of older bands in concert, such as The Eagles, The Doobie Bothers, Aerosmith, Journey, Heart, etc. Live performances were the best back then.

Yeah, it's complicated. lol Yes, the girl in black with long blonde hair is Stevie Nicks. The guy singing is Lindsey Buckingham. He wrote the song, they broke up and spent the next 30+ years singing their breakup song.

Nice reaction to this. Fleetwood Mac was such a great part of the past. Its really sad to see these musicians go. Holding onto this past while going towards the future will have to be figured out. Im mean, we have done it ourselves but we have the real experiences too to remember. Only unity through hearfelt music by folks who loved and played hard will work. Im not convinced it can ever happen again. So hold onto the music, incorporate it in your lives and move forward too.

Had to laugh when you said you couldn't believe this was live. In the past, you actually had to be talented to get a recording contract. Actually sing well and/or play the instrument. It was earned. These are seasoned, talented, professionals. That's why they sound so amazing 🙂

    Three things:
    1. The Guitar Lindsey is using is a Rick Turner LB (Lindsey Buckingham) Model
    2. John and Christine McVie are also a huge part of the band
    3. As a recommendation and if you like the sound of the guitar and the Lindsey's fingerstyle you should hear Im so afraid live 1997 The Dance. One of the best solos ever

What a lot of people miss with Fleetwood Mac is that one of the main reasons they made such great music is on the name of the group! Mick Fleetwood and John McVie were the foundation that allowed all that great music on top! Mick often gets some credit with his frums, but John on the solid bass gets overlooked! Mick and John had that then added Lindsey who wouldn't join unless they also took his girlfriend Stevie Nicks! They also added Christine Perfect who married John 6 years before Lindsey and Stevie! Nothing in this life is built to last without a solid foundation!

Stevie Nicks was my neighbor. She lived up the hill while I lived in the slightly less expensive lower part of town (still expensive enough that if I moved my $500K home from where it is now, to the same spot in Mill Valley, it'd probably be worth $2mil or close to it. Maybe more since prices were always crazy there but now they are positively insane.)
When her house caught fire, I had planes fly over my house just before they dropped fire retardant.
Other neighbors (same town but not same area) were David Crosby, Huey Lewis and the News (I knew all the guys pretty well, but they were not exactly "friends") and others. It wasn't unusual to take a walk downtown and run into Daryl Hannah and Jackson Browne. There was a Mexican Restaurant in town where Carlos Santana's father would play violin for the diners. I always made sure to leave him a big tip, if nothing else for the thrill of having a Santana play at my table.
We had an unspoken rule never to bother these R&R legends (or their families) if they happened to have a coffee at the roastery or dinner at La Ginestra.
