Stevie is 75 years young and still touring. My wife and I saw her perform in Phoenix last year in a double billing with none other than Billy Joel. I'm 60 years old and this was one of the best concerts I've ever attended.
A quick story: I saw her on this tour in Las Vegas at the Aladdin hotel. It was a solo tour, no opening act, no closing act. When she reached the end of her set list, she went around and gathered flowers just like you see in this video. Someone stole her ring right off of her finger. She went back over to the microphone. Had the lights turned off in the whole venue and said, “ someone stole my ring. These lights are going to remain off for five minutes and if my ring is not back on the stage at the end of the five minutes the concert is over.” I don’t think anybody left the room. Five minutes later, when the stage lights came back on, she walked over picked up her ring put it on her finger and continued with two more encores. What a class act she is !!!
"Leather and Lace" from this same concert is brilliant. The original is Stevie with Don Henley, but for this concert it was done solo with her two backup singers contributing more significantly. The three of them together at the mic is like listening to sirens pull you in. Magnetic!
"Bro" you need to turn that around. You said "This is from School of Rock". Instead, use "School of Rock thought Stevie's song was so cool they included it in their movie!" Rock on!
I feel so lucky to have been a teen at this time. Stevie Nicks was our goddess. Her song lyrics were in our high school grad announcements. Bella Donna should be required listening! Her ethereal beauty; truly our White Witch. Stand Back, Beauty and the Beast, Silver Springs, so many greats. Thanks for featuring her!
You are so right about female rockers. When I was growing up, they were all over and definitely shaped me into a strong woman in some way. We had Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Chrissie Hynde, Heart… it was a great time to be a little girl for sure.
Waddy Wachtel is still touring with Stevie Nicks. He’s killing it on guitar. I just saw her this month 8/2024. She was amazing. Stevie has a powerful voice and presence. She elevated Fleetwood Mac to soaring heights. Wrote some of their greatest hits. I grew up on Fleetwood Mac. Loved them ❤
The real icons were not trying to sell sex…..Stevie was always fully covered….no silly dancers, fake hair, no clothes, fake boobs…..five inch heels……just talent….real musicianship.
Music was so awesome in the 70's, every artist was trying to one up each other. This was a time you truly had to be talented because there was no auto tune and background tracks to enhance the music. They were good at singing and playing their music.
There's background tracks they were just recorded by actual people and not made in software with modules and synths. But I 100% agree before the mid 80s to now you had to have actual talent to go anywhere
Stevie Nicks was crowned the Queen of Rock And Roll by Rollingstone during this time. Now she has been inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame twice. Once with her band Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist. Have you heard of Fleetwood Mac? If not, you need to check them out.
Stevie has such a unique tone to her voice, which is why she is an amazing duet partner. You should check out some of her duets stop dragging my heart around with Tom Petty, leather and lace with Don Henley. Whenever I call you friend with Kenny Loggins gold with John Stewart.
Stevie Nicks was always a fantastic artist and performer . Her stage costumes were fantastic ! Such a great song writer , shes the whole package . And yes , real woman , they dont make them like that anymore im afraid. great reaction !
Stevie and I are the same age. I love all of her music. I first heard her in the Fleetwood Mac songs Dreams and Rhinnon. She's so awesome! Love her!!! ❤❤❤
Stevie. Absolutely beautiful. In the 70s all us girls wanted to be her and all the guys wanted to do her. No one could ever touch her talent and beauty.
When people hear "White wing dove" they think of white doves but that is wrong. Here in the Southwest, there is a variety of dove that has white wings but grey body.
Goddess. She's ethereal, mysterious, powerful, a poet with a voice match. It's great to see you get into this one. Seen her multiple times throughout her career.
This album was constantly on my turntable in 1981. Stevie had clearly arrived. The title song, (Bella Donna), Edge of Seventeen and Stop Dragging my Heart Around are the clear stars, but as others have pointed out, many other cuts resonated. The Highwayman is one of my faves. Agree that in the day we had real voices, real musicianship, real writing, real talent. I saw Christine McVee say once in an interview that although she was always so impressed with Stevie's great song writing, she often had no idea what her songs meant. 😂
One thing to remember is that artists from the 70s and 80s catered to EVERYONE, not just a select target group. That alone is one of the main reasons stars back then are now considered rock legends. Here are some female rockers from the 2020s: Emily Armstrong Joined the US rock band Linkin Park for their new album and tour Wet Leg A female-fronted act that is taking rock to new heights with their bold sound and brash energy Larkin Poe A female-fronted act that is taking rock to new heights with their bold sound and brash energy Gretel Hänlyn A female-fronted act that is taking rock to new heights with their bold sound and brash energy Some other notable female rock singers include: Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders Ann Wilson of Heart Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane Tina Turner Joan Jett of The Runaways and Joan Jett And The Blackhearts Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac Debbie Harry of Blondie Patti Smith
Waddy the guitarist famously didn’t want to do this song originally ….he wanted to do the entire riff with no help from any echo manipulation …..the sound then was copied by Destiny’s Child in their Bootylicious big hit…Roy Brittan of the East Street Band usual plays with Springsteen is playing the keyboards…..Roy also contributed to the Meat Loaf’s breakout “Bat Out Of Hell” debut album…..that’s Stevie’s sister sharing the vocals …
That "guitarist" Waddy Wachtel is one of the greatest session musicians ever. He has played with so many greats of so many different genres. To name a few, Stevie Nicks (still tours with her) Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon, Randy Newman, Jon Bon Jovi, Jackson Browne and on and on. Not to mention Russ Kunkel on the drums...another fantastic session musician who has played with many great musicians.
Sara - from this same concert is amazing!! Try it out - actually, I burned this concert on a cassette back in the day and listened to it constantly. It’s sooooooo good!
If anyone is wondering, the gifts and flowers were not specifically because the event was being filmed. Every show I have ever seen, it happens. Her fans adore her and she adores them back.
She did a short tour after the release of her first album. The band was the best of the best. This was the final encore from the last show of the tour. Bob Glaub (bass) and Russ Kunkel (drums) from Jackson Browne's band Roy Bittan (piano, keys) from Springsteen's band Waddy watchel (guitar) was the #1 studio guy then One of the background singers was Stevie's sister.
I think her best performance is this one from 1976 with Fleetwood Mac performing Rhiannon live on "The Midnight Special": ruclips.net/video/goKM7jsOwrg/видео.html When people ask about best live performances I think this one ranks up there with Heart doing Stairway and Phil Collins doing In the Air Tonight.
I was 18 when her LP Bella Donna came out. I would drive around with Stevie blaring from the speakers, singing at the top of my lungs. Every song is a masterpiece.
Stevie Nicks & her band mates went to see the Police perform & they have a song called Bring on the Night that they performed during that show. They later went backstage to met them & her guitarist told the Police he liked that opening riff & bass line & asked if he could borrow it for a song they were writing. The Police said they could take a piece of it & that’s how you have this songs riff.
I got into Fleetwood Mac in the mid 70's and the had a friend give me the album Buckingham Nicks in 1979 and its a fantastic album. When Stevie came out with Belladonna it was so good and really showcased her talent. I saw her in concert in 1983 and have some criticism about it because of her issues then and was a bit disappointed in her performance. I saw her again in 1989 when she had taken control of her life and it was absolutely fantastic. Remember, Stevie wrote songs about the breakup between her and Lyndsay Buckingham for the Rumors album and Lyndsay had to play on the songs.
Stevie is not only an iconic rock female artist, but at this point in her career and quite a long time afterwards, she was sexy as h3ll. I mean look at her in that lace! 😊 Still an icon
Indeed, Stevie was the Queen of Rock! Her singing and lyrics are just top notch, and her performance and dress were classy and not like today's overly sexualized dress, bland lyrics, over processed vocals, and needlessly choreographed performances (usually all to hide their lack of vocal and musical talent).
Stevie is the Queen. Was so lucky to see her a few months ago. Still as special as always, highly recommend seeing her this year if you have the chance.
Watch the live silver springs. A break up song sung by Stevie to Lindsay.... the tension is crazy good... imagine having to play guitar to a song as she's tearing you up.. lol. Its awesome
Many many years later, Stevie did a concert in Chicago. I believe it was around 2010. Anyway check out the performance of Edge of Seventeen. Look up Stevie Nicks- Edge of Seventeen (Live in Chicago). This Chicago performance is absolutely incredible!!!!!!!! One of my live performances of any song!!!
You cannot compare Stevie nicks to anyone else she is one of a kind.... She is a badass female... She is 75 and still looks the same and still sings the same nothing is off...if you don't love my girl you have no taste in music....
Best voices in rock, imo, are Stevie, Grace Slick, Ann Wilson - Heart, Pat Benetar, and Janis. I'd include Karen Carpenter and Cass Elliot but they weren't really considered rock. If you haven't already, check out Heart's tribute to Led Zeppelin at The Kennedy Center Honors. I dare you not to cry lol.
Hey Sebs, what I love about your reactions is that you examine the lyrics and research the backstory on the artist and the song. Yeah our generation already knew just how freakin awesome so many of these performances are. And it brings back just a bit of that thrill when we see your genuine appreciation learning about the context. To speak to your mention of current female rockers, one that you didn't mention is Miley Cyrus. Have you checked out much of her work? I admit, I first learned about her from my 11 year old daughter, but that was 15 years ago. Her cover of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters Live at Glastonbury really is epic.
Hannah Wicklund is a young guitarist/vocalist/songwriter you should check out. The live version of her song " Ghost" would be a good place to start. She is definitely a rocker of this era.
Stevie was dealing with alot during the beginning of her solo career, she got the news that the album Belladonna that this song was on reached number 1 on the charts, that same day she found out her best friend Robin had cancer and would eventually pass away, with just doing 12 shows, she thought that this album would be the beginning and the end of her solo career, with this being the last show of the tour, she had to return back to Fleetwood Mac to start The Mirage Album, oh and by the way the grabbing gifts and flowers at the end of Edge of Seventeen is what us fans call "The Edge Walk" and she still does this til this very day at the age of 75 and the end of her shows... This is often a transition song in her concerts--she collects gifts from the audience. Her back-up singers are friends/family--and you hit it. She has always said she is a rock star--was before she ever moved to LA with Lyndsey. Have seen her live many, many times since the 70s--I prefer her solo shows to FM. She and Lyndsey opened for Janis Joplin early in their career--she has modeled her live performance based on the energy she saw Janis do.
You need to watch the live performance of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham tear it up. Ok, They almost tear each other up. If you know anything about Fleetwood Mac in the later years, they were personally explosive. Relationship problems as they were either dating or married. Two couples were in the band and Mick Fleetwood was having his own relationship problems. The Chain is about breaking up. Check it out, but you have to see the live version. Also, Definitely MORE Tom Petty.

One of the smartest women in music. She turned down purple rain... She said it scared her and she was right.. I'm pretty sure it's too big for anybody but him..
I believe this was her first solo hit song and she collected millions of fans , including myself, after this sired on the FM radio stations in the New York City area!
Not sure if anyone has mentioned, but this was the final night of her first solo tour. Her emotions were partially tied to that. Also…she’s THE queen. There is no better. Period. End of discussion.
The girls you mentioned like Taylor Swift and Billie I are not rock they are pop! To be a Great Female Rock singer like back in the day, they looked and dressed the part, they knew how to write their own music and were Great singers, they had rock bands, and some even played their own instruments! Please don't confuse Rock n Roll music with todays pop music
I watched an interview with Srevie, and she said this song was about her cousin who died..he was a little younger than her at the age of 17. She had been at the hospital..then went back the next day and he passed away while she held his hand.

I took my 27 year old daughter last summer in Columbus OH. Stevie rocked the house!
I was there! ❤
@@danabroich3643 Stevie is a native of Phoenix. She killed it. And Billy Joel was incredible.

Love that story! Thanks for sharing.
I am forever grateful for the gifts left to the White Witch. Her voice is sublime.
Agreed
Not a queen. Stevie was, is, and will always be, a goddess!

Love Leather and Lace. Awesome duet.
Yes totally agree. Stevie Nicks is fantastic!
Leather and Lace is AWESOME!
You have to listen to landslide. Stevie is a goddess. So glad I grew up listening to some of the best music ever. 60’s to 80’s

I saw her 6 times solo and 5 times with Fleetwood Mac. Her music is the soundtrack of my life. Rock on ancient Queen! 🎩🕊️🔮
Rockers who are women. Heart, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Raitt, Debbie Harry(Blondie). Just a start.
Ronstadt!!! 🥰
Hell yes Linda is the best.
Crissie Hynde, Annie Lennox

So Stevie was my girl crush when I was a teen. She's just beautiful. I saw her with Fleetwood Mac in the early nineties. Awesome show❤
The Pretenders "I'll Stand by you" is one of my favorite songs.
The outfit with the angel wing look and singing about doves. I didn't know it had the deeper connection to her grief over Lennon's death.
Stevie is the Queen of Rock!
Comparing Stevie Nicks to Taylor Swift, is like comparing the works of Shakespeare to Twitter.

Stevie doesn't have any sisters. Backup singer Lori Nicks was married to Stevie's brother Chris.
