8:58 I never fail to get goosebumps when Stevie cranks it up a notch and sings directly to Lindsey. Definite star-cross lovers vibes, but they both know they do not need to be together because it's chaos LOL. At the time only a certain amount of songs could fit on a vinyl record so this one was cut from "Rumours" due to length. Mick told Stevie in the parking lot of the studio and she flipped out (understandably so, especially due to how personal the song was and it was sort of her response to "Go Your Own Way" which Lindsey wrote about her/them) but she let it go. They apparently performed the song once or twice after the albums release but dropped it from shows shortly after. This 1997 performance revived the song (think it even got a Grammy nomination) and it has been added back to the album in the digital age.

I have a tshirt that says, 'sorry i can't talk, I'm thinking about the 1997 performance of silver springs when Stevie Nicks stares a hole through Lindsay Buckinham". Needless to say, I really love this performance. I think it's one of the most honest performances of all time.

Nothing made me laugh more than when Stevie and LIndsey would write songs about each other and then they would both have to sing them to each other. lol Loved your reaction!

Stevie’s first solo album was in 1981. As a solo artist she was very prominent in the 80s. Silver Springs was originally meant to be on Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album in 1977 but was left off due to a decision by Mick Fleetwood to replace it with I Don’t Want To Know. Stevie was not happy about it. The song was then released as the B-side to Go Your Own Way.
Due to not being a single and not being on the album itself, it became a collectors item as fans of the band sought the B-side out back in the days before the internet.
The Dance album and tour in 1997 was sort of like the song’s revenge. It finally had widespread exposure and made a big impression on audiences during the MTV broadcast of the show, and got significant radio play as well.

Stevie literally boared a hole through Lindsey in those last few moments. Searing the lyrics into him. Insane!

How Lindsey and Stevie joined FM is pretty amazing. Mick Fleetwood was visiting Sound City studios to scope out a new place to record. While there, he heard a guitar player putting down a track that impressed him. Much later, when Mick was looking for a new guitar player for FM, he remembered the guitarist he heard at Sound City. Mick called the studio and asked who it was. The studio owner told him that there might be an issue. He said that Mick would probably have to take the guitarists girlfriend too, as she was a singer. The rest is history.

My favorite band. For a little insight.. this concert was filmed to be an album. The audience was also an invite only crowd. So the mic’d the stage for a very clean and full sound. I’m sure they went back and did overdubs later too. Such an amazing performance!!! 🩷

Love Fleetwood Mac especially Stevie Nick's. She was just musical guest on SNL and at 76 she still sounds great!! Lyndsey Buckingham is an excellent guitarist! All the turbulence with relationships created an amazing band.

Try their album "Bare Trees" from '71.
Title cut or "Sentimental Lady" or
"Sunny Side of Heaven". Good reactions to "Silver Springs" a mid 70s song that didn't make the cut (vinyl LP had 44 minutes max.) but appeared on CD reissues in the 90s.
Drummer Fleetwood + Bassist McVie have been together since playing in John Mayall's Blues breakers in the mid 60's and starting Fleetwood Mac in 1968. Legacy

Fleetwood Mac is one band where the myth *is* a good as the music. A little played out now, but people still worship at the Church of Stevie - she most of all. Read the recent Rolling Stone interview with her. First, it's good and full of some surprises. More importantly, it's freaking hilarious. She is the goddess and widow and mistress of Rock N Roll. She is so self reverential and unaware of how self referential and ridiculous she sounds. Stevie knows nothing about nothing that never happened to her. She's a creative spirit and amazing talent - last of her kind. Joni Mitchell, Stevie and Ronstadt lived the life man. And the MEN. Stevie had the wildest heart.... and darkest secrets. She was never an innocent, hard as she tries. Her voice is spectral - and so is her soul.

4:20 ish when you're talking about live performances - You're Wrong About (podcast) did an episode about Fleetwood mac's 'Rumours' and there was a really interesting conversation about analogue recording vs. modern digital. Also the fact they had literal months in a studio at a time. Super great listen!

You’re using the phrase wrong, opposite of what it means, “never fails to disappoint people” means they ALWAYS disappoint. I think you rather meant to say Fleetwood Mac *never fails* to impress you, because their music is always impressive.

Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie Nicks put out an album before they joined Fleetwood Mac titled simply Buckingham Nicks. I consider it one of the best albums of the 1970's. Listen to Crying In The Night, Long Distance Winner, Crystal, Races Are Run, Without A Leg To Stand On, and the magnificent Frozen Love(my favorite song all-time).

One of my favorite albums back in the day was Buckingham/Nicks. But I usually liked the FM songs that Christine McVie sang lead on though I love Stevie's voice. The drama btw those two though and the looks btw them on stage. Haven't you seen What's Up With That? on SNL with Lindsey guesting all the time but never getting to speak? Funny. And I would recommend early FM albums. Very good, you would enjoy them.

Regarding Lindsey, the courage and professionalism to contribute such an amazing performance on a song that was written about him with those lyrics. You have to respect him for that if not for his own singing and songwriting (which I hold in high regard).

This concert, "The Dance" was professionally recorded for a DVD. It has some of the best live performances they have. And the video and sound quality is top notch. the whole concert is worth watching. I question your sensibility though, it is not a "pleasing" song at all, it portrays serious pain, hurt and loss. And if you look closely at Christine's face as she plays the grand piano so gracefully, she is not happy, as she knows the depths of pain and angst Stevie has to draw upon to perform the song. Speaking of Christine, this month is the 2nd anniversary of her passing, and despite Stevie worship by so many, Christine actually had more hits than Stevie and Lindsey combined. You should do a tribute to Christine and this is a good start:

Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson Madonna, all of them danced while they sang. The singers now have back up tracks behind them when they sing there. There are still bands out there, but they have back up tracks too back in the day they sang live and they sang it themselves without a back up track, do some homework. Don’t you know the performers that would dance when they were singing most of them didn’t have backup tracks.
