I’m nutritarian and 72. I take no meds, go to the gym regularly for at least an hour workout, and my doctor says I have the blood pressure of a healthy 18 year old. I have been exercising and eating healthy for over 15 years. But even before that, I ate only 5 or 6 burgers since 1990.

    • @flyshacker
      @flyshacker 6 месяцев назад +2

@@Ranch-girl Thanks! I’m kind of a health & fitness fanatic. My main protein source is beans, but also raw nuts, seeds, cruciferous veggies, whole grains. I store about 1,000 pounds of 18 kinds of dry beans from around the world in my garage, and every week I make a pot of fresh cooked beans in my pressure cooker from 18 kinds of beans. I freeze some so that I can have a big bowl of fresh cooked beans every day and thaw some later in the week. I put balsamic vinegar and very hot peppers 🌶️ on my beans. I also have raw nuts & seeds with every meal, partly for the protein and partly for the omega-3 oils that help to absorb nutrients from the rest of my food: greens, mushrooms, grains, root veggies, corn, fruit, etc. Hope that helps! 👍 Seriously, protein is in almost every kind of plant-based food. It would take work to incur a protein deficiency. A greater problem for all but the most serious athletes is getting TOO MUCH protein, which causes angiogenesis and provides a fertile ground for cancer. And an even greater problem than excess protein is a deficiency of FIBER! Most Americans consume a tiny fraction of the fiber their ancestors ate, and fiber feeds our immune system in our lower gut, which fights cancer and other diseases. Instead of asking “where do you get your protein?”, we should be asking “where do you get your fiber?” That’s a far more serious problem for most people.

    How amazing is that!
I get 80%+ of my calories from whole plant foods and the rest, processed things like soy milk, maybe some pasta (whole grain of course), etc. makes up the rest.
Been tracking on cronometer for years and as my eating settled into a pattern I am almost exactly 60, 20, 20!
I guess eating a variety of whole plant foods you almost can't avoid it. I wasn't even targeting a specific ratio but it just happened to end up at what he is speaking to.

As far as I know almost no one eats too little protein, there will always be some few elderly that eat too little and get deficient of almost everything . Too much animal protein is the problem in general. The amount of protein that a body needs is very small. I am a 70 kilo guy and my body needs about 70 grams of protein per day. People in general eat way much more than that every day. Eat some beans, lentils , and nuts and you will get enough protein.

Longevity is GENETIC. I have known smokers make it to their 90s. And others didn't see 60. What I do know is heart disease is more likely to come from meat and dairy. As is cancer. Cows milk and their meat is basically poison to the human body. Like I said the only way you supercede it. Is how strong you are as a person. If your body isn't strong. It's gonna take you younger than most...
And these are the people who make up the 200,000 that die from Heart disease and cancer in just the U.S annually.

Where I struggle with your recommendations is with those expressing optimal diet in terms of % of carbs, protein, fat... What does such a diet actually look like? e.g. How many beans, how many nuts or avocados, etc, etc, for an average calorie budget? I'm endeavouring to stick to a healthy plant-based diet but am unsure as to whether I have the overall balance right... any more practical recommendations which would make it easier for the average disciple to ensure the correct balance would be greatly appreciated...

You can log into Cronometer and add all the foods you eat in a day, and it will tell you what your macronutrient ratio looks like, as well as which nutrients you are getting. After you've done it for a while, you get a sense of how to eat without thinking about it. And of course there will be variation from day to day, but you will get an overall picture of how to do it.

Just a comment diet high in processed junk foods and high sugar processed foods and sugary drinks diet is the type of diet that makes people the most sick. Compare Carnivore and Keto diets atleast promote real foods and no junk sugary foods. Keto diet can be done on vegan, vegatarian, omnivore and carnivore diets so Keto is not a carnivore diet its a ratio of high fats about 50 to 70%, protein about 20% and carbs about 5%. On a Keto diet a person can Fast without suffering from hunger. Keto can be used to bring sugar and insulin down and reverse diabetes and pre diabetes etc. After that reversal has taken place a person can go on Dr Fuhrman Nutrient dense diets. Keto is good to reverse serious medical conditions and even starve cancer of sugar. Ketosis is a natural condition in a faminine etc. Yes nutrient dense philosophy of Dr Fuhrman is great but there Keto can be a tool for helping speed up reversal of diabetes etc

There has never been a vegan culture, ever.
If that was the healthiest die most of the world would have been vegan.
Today people eat less meat than ever before and we have the highest rates of metabolic diseases , cancer , obesity, autoimmune disease , mental illness , heart diseaese etc etc etc
People that have switched to an animal based diet , like humans used to eat throughout all of history , completely corrected or corrected most of their illnesses.
But you have to be an HONEST person to see this.

Dr. Fuhrman is incorrect about nutrition. I'm not going to be rude or disrespectful. The number one cause of trusting someone talking about nutrition is to look at their hair growth, skin health, teeth, posture, and stature. If any of those are receding, then the person has vitamin and mineral deficiencies and is malnourished due to their eating habits. Dr. Fuhrman, you are receding in all of these categories, you need to change your diet and not be dogmatic in your teachings. How you age is very important and people should observe that to decipher what's a good nutritional protocol.

I have spent a month at one of his Retreats, and his skin looks great! I noticed the clarity in his eyes, too. He ran around his property, chasing his young puppy that he had just gotten. We all marveled at him as he looked like some 16-year-old boy with his dog, but you are entitled to your opinion, and I basing my statement on facts that I saw.

It’s absolutely delicious if prepared properly. Use a press to remove some of the water, slice tofu into 1/4 inch strips, spice with your favorite spice mix (taco is my fave) and sauté with a tiny spray of oil for 4 minutes on both sides. My whole family is mad for it.

At five minutes he starts misinformation about keto diet. He is talking about the studies he has in front of him, and rattles off alot of numbers. But, he never shows it, with the papers cited! Yet, he doesn't even know what the proper keto ratios are! 20% carbs, 15% protein, NOT 30% as he says and 65% fats. But, the key thing here is that the fat comes from food, AT FIRST, UNTIL FAT ADAPTATION IS REACHED, then you cut back on eating fat, in order to let your body burn your fat stores for fuel, resulting in loading weight, without hunger ! Literally, everything that the plant based side claims about longevity from animal based diet is inverted! Most new studies, ( that aren't biased by vegan agenda trials and studies), show the opposite results. But, if you are plant based, keep on spouting out the same lies and pat yourself on the back for being SOOOO RIGHT! Water fast for forty days eating NO grains, legumes, fruit, or carbs. You will survive on your own body fat, lose weight AND NOT DIE! But, what, wait ,I thought we have to have 65% carbs everyday to live. Which idea is right?

Animal protein. However my hair started growing back and my nails became normal after starting to eat animals again. Ethically I hate eating animals but I have to survive and I was slowly dying
