It's so fast, easy to drive around town or in a track-mode (haven't had it on track yet), and while I am still learning the menus and settings, that's nothing to be put off by. It's like any technology that's new to the user; just need some time with it and it will be second nature. I put some 15 mm spacers on it to widen out the stance and fill the wheel wells while I wait for more aftermarker wheel options to come available. I sold my 2021 RS6 and this is a worthy replacement with comparable performance and very little compromise on features but at half the cost. And for my purposes, mostly city driving, the fuel economy is a welcome improvement.
@@ronnie_5150 I was actually looking at the Kia first, I love the front end styling. In that blue color with three green accents 👌🏾. But the 5N won me over after the first drive.

impressive car, but most folks considering one of these will compare it with the 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance. While it's unclear that the Tesla was apparently not considered as a direct competitor to the N (maybe because it's a sedan rather than a hatchback?), hopefully Car and Driver will soon do an instrumented review of the Tesla. From all that's out there it's apparent that the Tesla is quicker, lighter, and far more efficient. About the only area where the N appears superior is as a pure track car. For those of us who are looking for an electric equivalent to a BMW M2/3, both of these cars are viable alternatives. So please, C/D, test the Tesla. A compare would be awesome.
Testing Teslas is hard because Tesla doesn't do press cars for journalists/reviews. Usually the only way to test and review a Tesla is to find a private owner willing to let the publication borrow it.
Unfortunately, Toyota doesn't have the ability to develop high-performance EVs. They have a hard time developing even common EVs. If you expect Japanese EVs, pay attention to Nissan instead. Overall, Japanese EVs are not competitive.
batteries and EV powertrains are incredibly reliable and cost substantially less to maintain than internal combustion powertrains. After a couple decades you might need to be looking into expensive battery fixes or replacements, but most ICE powered cars on the road need an engine or a transmission sooner than that. A lot of them FAR sooner. EV haters can point out negatives because yes there are negatives, but they always seem to ignore the even bigger negatives that an equivalent ICE brings.
No one compares the fuel economy of the V8 Mustang to the I4 Focus. Would you complain that the V8 Mustang isn't as fuel efficient as the Focus? The same goes for the EV category.
agree. This is a vehicle with very limited utility. By comparison a Tesla Model 3 Performance is quicker, faster, lighter, and far more efficient. A truly viable alternative to a BMW M2/3. This is largely a track-focused toy.
As an EV owner (Polestar 2 Performance Pack upgrade) this is a great achievement but it is NOT a hot hatch--more like a hot SUV--and the range is just not adequate. As an around town toy it's so cool...but not a practical long distance car.
Of course. The Ioniq5N started selling in the U.S. in March this year. And it produces less than 10,000 units a year. It's not a common car. I ordered one last month, but the dealer told me that I can get it next January. Even the Ioniq6N that Hyundai will release next year is only 6,000 units a year.
