I believe that m16 is an Airborne "rubber duck rifle" as we call them. We use them for combat jumps to simulate jumping with our weapons. It's made if a rubbery plastic material weighted to the exact weight of a loaded weapon.
My Grandpa also hate is he call is American trash although the m1 garand from the ww2 used by the French is old but my grandpa love to use m1 garand and m60 from a a ARVN ground troop
Awesome video. My grandpa was in Vietnam from 1968-70. He went to Vietnam in June of ‘69 and in August he was on patrol with 5 other guys. One with a radio, one sergeant, and my grandpa and 2 other guys. They were walking and then a mortar went of. The sergeant and the guy with the radio were killed instantly and the radio was destroyed and well. My grandpa and the two other guys were severely wounded. My grandfather and the two other guys talked and since my grandpa was the least injured one out of all of them he walked back to a base. He got help and with medics flew back in a hewey and rescued the remaining guys. From then, they were flown to Japan in a hospital to be treated. After Japan my grandfather was flown to Alaska, then Washington state, and then to New Jersey to help train other men that were about to go to Vietnam. He wasn’t a drill sergeant but just helped out. When he is swimming, on his back you can still see shrapnal from the explosion. The doctors didn’t get all of the metal out he says. He is thankfully still alive and well.
Those 20mm hispano rounds are pretty cool, the tip unscrews and a few other parts unscrew from the inside. I've got one from WW2 that I was given as a kid and always thought it was awesome. Love the m65 field jacket. I've got my dad's original he received in basic at FT Bliss in '78 and a much later woodland camo m65 he received in the mid 80's at FT Lewis. The earlier M65 is not in the best condition but it was my primary winter jacket as a teenager.
BTW....The average age of US VietNam Soldier was 19 and during WW 2 it was 26. In the 80s there was a song called “19” that was very popular. It was awesome that you did a synopsis of the war and expressed your respect for the Men who came back and faced an unhealthy welcome home....all US veterans are true patriots and we owe everything to all that gave their lives in the name of freedom. I can’t imagine how they felt coming home to that treatment. I have a large VN and WW2 collection and enjoy history too. I think knowing history helps people navigate the modern world better. I went to an antique store last weekend and I saw a 1918 canteen with aftermarket cover and belt and they wanted $99 firm. I couldn't help but laugh. Thanks for watching man.
Coolest Viet Nam thing I had was a 1970 Deuce and a Half. During the time I owned it, I had Veterans knocking on my door asking if they could check it out on a regular basis. Most of them wound up having a seat in it and cranking it up, then they would tell me their stories.
I had an Uncle in the U.S. Navy who was in the Vietnam War. He used to be in the PBR [ Patrol Boat, River] or in Swift boats hauling supplies, wounded, etc, etc. He had given me his green fatigues, K-BAR, and " Uncle Sam Want's You" poster. He passed away some years ago. [ many speculations regarding rare cancer being linked to exposure to Agent Orange, Agent Purple, etc. His Son now has the items given to me by my Uncle. Great collection and tribute, JonBoy09
I was wondering if you could at least keep me in mind on the butt pack. I need one to finish my Vietnam gear, but they are so expensive. I would even trade.
Right after my Grandpa died we went into our pastors office to ask him to do the service we mentioned my grandfather was never in Nam but my Grandpa was in during Nam. But our pastor explained how he was in Nam and when they were on the plane home they were ordered to change their clothes because the publics was attacking and harassing service men when they got off the plane. It's really disgusting you know these guy's didn't get a hero's welcome home like during WW1 or WW2 they were scorned and disrespected.
I always respected those that serve in Vietnam. My uncle serve there with the USAF, while my other uncles serve with the South Vietnamese Military Forces.
You have so many canteens, seriously. Maybe I'd like to buy one off of you. My step-grandfather was in Vietnam. He was a dog handler. Passed away this January unfortunately. possible effects from Agent Orange could've given him brain cancer.
I know. Wish I could've gotten to know him better. Nice shirt and pants you had at the end of the video. You said you had another shirt? Also, canteens clean enough to drink out of ?
