Years after they made this movie both James Garner and Julie Andrews said separately that it was their favorite movie-making experience. I just remembered that 18 years later (1982) they were paired up again in "Victor, Victoria."
in my opinion, Julie Andrews at her very best. of course, James Garner helped, and that brilliant Paddy Chayevsky script, and Mandel's score. one of the last, best, truly satisfying MGM movies. saw it twice when it first came out, and savor watching portions of it again, from time to time. when movies were movies, even in 1964. what happened?
What happened? Sixty years went by, for one thing. As far as nostalgia goes, I'm ahead of the curve - I miss what silent films could do. Lillian Gish? Oh, yeah!
didn't mean to underrate Garner in this. he was terrific in this. he said it was his favorite movie role, and rightly so. he stepped in and replaced William Holden, originally cast, who wouldn't have been half as good as Garner was in this picture. @@nicksambidesjr
The beauty about this movie is they made a total of 3 films together and each time there was "chemistry" between the two of them in all three. Their interview from the Halmark movie "One special night" told everyone how they felt about each other. Very sincere and touching... even with him being married to Lois Clarke. What a great marriage and what two great people! And two great daughters. Wish this scene posted went all the way to the hotel; "... I've been so silly, of course I'll marry you..." . Anyway, wishing you all the best and this is one of the best movies every produced and such a tribute to the stupidity to the politicians that get us into wars! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
They can’t and or they won’t, because they don’t have the actors like James Gardner, and Julie Andrews. And making a “Reboot” of any classic has never turned out well at all. We’ll just have to continue to enjoy these timeless classics.❤❤
An American hating character in love with an American man love. I've seen them in 2 movies together The Americanization of Emily & Victor/ Victoria and in both they did a love scene, but Julie didn't show anything like actresses do these days. If this movie was remade, I guarantee there would be a lot more action and nudeness. I love this movie just the way it is with a handsome man and a beautiful woman who made love but weren't nude.
A lovely film. My only objection: "I've got this ingrained British morality..." Try asking the Cypriots, especially the ones in detention camps, and other occupied British subjects during The Empire.

I can’t deal with how adorable she is
I can't believe how handsome he is and how hot they are together!!!!!!

Julie Andrews is so beautiful.
She’s always beautiful💗😉

Man, he was so handsome!
The most logical encapsulation of the futility of war.

I loved this movie. I never would've watched a black & white movie but when I realized Julie Andrews was in it, I had to and I'm glad I did.
Why don't they make movies like this anymore?

Say what you want about James Garner, but he sure can do a breathtaking love scene!
He was one of the best.
