I saw this when it came out in the movie theaters in 1967 with my mother. We had a wonderful time watching it. Today, this is still one of our family's favorite movies.
I remember being about 5 years old and standing on line with the family on a beautiful summer night at the grand Loew's Kings theater in Brooklyn, being very entertained by this movie, and a lot of uproars of laughter from the audience. Until I saw it years later, the only thing I remember as a small child, was the music, the fireworks mishap, Millie's frequent stares into the camera, and Beatrice Lillie's head bouncing on the lyrics at the end. One of my favorites too, will always remind me of summer !
I'm 37 and this was one of my favorite movies. I forget how old I was when I first saw it but, I remember the feeling of loving to watch this over and over.
I've got you both beat at age 59. I don't think that I would have seen this movie when it first came out in 1967 because I was to young, but we had the record album, and we used to watch it everytime it hit the theaters, and I still watch my copy of it on video tape.
I finally got to watch the movie. It was great. She was great when she said her lines. I even liked her outfits. Especially Miss Dorothy’s clothes. They were gorgeous.
Interesting that Julie Andrews and James Fox are both British playing American but James Fox mastered the American accent while Julie Andrews still sounded British. Everyone was so in love with Julie Andrews that nobody seemed to care.
Dude, the first time I watched this movie I was 9 and I fully believed that James was American. Much later as an adult, like 2 years ago I found out that not only was he British, he was POSH British. The kind of British accent American's use when they joke with their friends or theater directors want a uppity snob. My jaw hit the floor when I heard his real voice.
I loved this movie so much when it came out that I saved up to buy the soundtrack and learned every word to every song. Why don’t they make movies like this anymore?
I saw it in the movie theater, too. James Fox was such a live wire in this movie. It was strange to see him later in films like "The Remains of the Day" after he came back to films. He looked so different. You can't help recognizing the Fox family members, though, performing in so many British PBS shows today.
God, James Fox was soooooo cute in this! How do you not wanna give him a big hug? There’s footage of James Fox doing his “Tapioca” song bit for a tv episode of “This Is Your Life” for Elmer Bernstein, in which James himself did the bit himself (singing and dancing), though it should be noted that he was dubbed over by an uncredited Jimmy Bryant in the movie (which is strange, considering that that was the only number in which James sang in the movie). He slipped effortlessly back into the accent and sang it without a problem. When I was either 15 or 16, I went to a performing arts summer camp that did the stage musical version of Thoroughly Modern Millie, and it was quite good. At 15/16 though, I still had NO idea it was based on a movie up until I got home and watched it. Had a crush on James Fox in this movie, he again was so cute and nerdy!
I bought a copy and got it today on dvd I've seen it years ago and so I can't remember much of it but know the music from it obviously, Julie Andrews is one of our British treasures , she never seems to change even at 88 she looks great , long may she continue 🎉😊😊😊😊😊😊
dont recall seeing this part when it was on tv years ago, i guess they cut a lo t out of it.. Millie was one of those movies you see once and they seemed to be pointless, but this was a good scene
10/30/2024. @annmolloy, the reason is the actors of this generation has not the talent of the actors of that time. Just my opinion, but the opinion might be true to a point.

The MOST under-rated Musical of all time. A TOP 5 that too many people have never seen.
I thought that title belonged to Ken Russell's "The Boyfriend." 🤔
This was such a great movie and Julie Andrews was superb in it. She was beautiful.
...and still is❤️
Filmes ótimos mas sem tradução para o portugues, é lamentável
This type of comedy is sooo underrated. and yes, julie, sigh. so dreamy.
Yes my comments has a sigh. 6-13-2022

Where were you able to watch it?
Such a fun and funny film. Andrews at the height of her popularity and charm. 💖🎶💖

@@hannahpatwell5435 Lovely James Fox.
I know Millie is explicitly stated as being a Kansas native in the stage musical, but was her nationality ever stated in the film?
@@Pastadudde Yes
English. Please. British is far too wide a scope.

Any body else’s anxiety off the charts watching them on the ledge!
At 6.39 Jimmy leans outside of the matte painting. I never noticed that before and I’ve seen this movie 1000 times.
banana oil, had this movie and never noticed
Julie Andrews was gorgeous in this
Always had a crush on Julie
I haven't seen this since it's first theatrical run. Got to see it again. Also, Jimmy sure fills a suit out nicely

would love to see a series or biopic on Harold Lloyd who we now know did not do most of his own stunts and lived a life full of well kept scandals.
🔥🔥🔥
Dance scene is my favorite. And raspberries is second, sigh. 6-13-2022
How did he get down from there? I forgot....
I’m terrified of heights! The palms of my hands were sweating just watching them be so high up on the building.
…. And on leather soled dress shoes.
Me too my stomach goes over and over watching it I hate heights too lol 😅😂
