I still perform "Oh I Wept". Such a great album. I saw them right after Paul Kossof left in San Diego. Terrible show. The new guitarist thought he was Hendrix, too much vibrato and no tasty licks. The keyboard player (Fraser I assume) got pissed because of technical problems and tipped his organ over screaming and cursing. I was really disappointed as I didn't know Kossoff had left. It isn't like today ehrn we all know every move the stars make.

For their final tour in Japan, Tetsu Yamauchi played bass, John 'Rabbit' Bundrick keyboards and Rodgers played lead guitar as well as singing. There are a few videos on RUclips ('Seven Angels', 'Heartbreaker', 'Unseen Love' and 'Honky Tonk Women').

I did manage to see them quite a few times & was at the Sunderland gig when they recorded most of it on albums
If yr English you'll know Sunderland is in the north of UK
Although i live out past the city of Newcastle, home of Brian Johnson of AC/DC, also Dire Straits singer Mark Knopfler
( his bro David was in my year at school) also Sting is another Newcastle lad, as was Eric Burdon & Chas Chandler & all the members of Lindisfarne
      Cheryl Tweedy/Cole/ whatever too
Yes we have a knack of breeding good singers & musician up here!
Of course Paul Rodgers & David Coverdale were both from down the road in Darlington
I think its the freezing weather & harsh conditions plus the majority of us have Viking blood in our veins har har
Great bands all, still listen to Led Zepp, Floyd, Hawkwind, Purple, Thin Lizzy, Sabbath, Stones, The Who,
So many bands i was privileged to see live & it didnt cost the monthly mortgage either!
Ive still got most of my gig tickets going from 10 Shillings
      To 15 bob then £2
I paid £5 to see Led Zepplin & thought it a fortune !

So loose, yet so tight. Notice that there aren’t any front monitors/fold backs (which meant they couldn’t hear each other clearly and were relying on the mains at the back of them to hear themselves). They were so confident and knew they were good. Paul Rodgers at the centre with his masterful Otis redding-like vocals. The thing I liked most about Free was that, while many of their contemporaries (Zep, Purple, Sabbath, etc) cranked the volume up to 11, Free just laid back; even their heavier songs grooved more than they rocked. Great band! Paul Rodgers is the best singer to hail from these shores, imo (with Freddie Mercury and Craig David close seconds, imo).

Santana...Remember travelling home to London from Cornwall on a coach in 1980, playing this on my portable cassette.
No headphones. No-one evrn shouting "turn that effing music orf!!". Can only say that coach must have been made up of some fine people!
I adored this. I was a 20yr old girl who loved a good guitar solo/rift. Still do.
I was coming home early from a family holiday to be with my boyfriend.....l always remember that time when l hear this 😉

Most people know Free from All Right Now, which is a good song, but it’s not even close to their best work, especially from a group that were so young. Their whole catalogue needs to be listened to, so many amazing songs

An interesting fact, that I think people usually don’t realize, is the number of famous bands in which the bassist is the “main” guy or one of the “main” guys in the group: McCartney (Beatles), Bruce (Cream), Sting (Police), Wilson (Beach Boys), Waters (Pink Floyd), Simons (Kiss), Lee (Rusn), Lane (Small Faces), Fraser (Free) !

Voice & bloody lush too! I was laughing before thinking about when I was around 17 & as mad on Free as I am Today but wanting to emulate my hero's I tried in every clothes shop in Christendom to get some pants like Paul Rogers wears in this vid
I had an identical top like his but not the strides so I bought off white canvass fabric, buttons & being an art student at the time found adapting a trouser
    pattern no probs
I was the total envy of all my mates when I strutted into our youth club in my exact copy of Paul's strides & im female ! But I loved those guys so much, I lived breathed & survived on Free.
I don't have the pants anymore shame cos they were the biz but I reckon id still get into a similar pair. Might get my sewing machine out again!!!

Nice catch. Simon finesses thru the song with traditional grip, then flips the stick for some more pop at the crescendo to the finale. I enjoy his drumming
The BBC camera work is superb in this show. High quality, and they get good angles of the right players at the right time. Something painfully lacking in much footage of the 60's and 70's
