    As a Master Pistol Smith who does it for a living, I didn't expect a great deal from the Kimber. Yes, I bought one. It looked nice, it felt good, and I was curious. It has been totally reliable. I too polished the feed ramp. It ran fine without that, but it never hurts. The only deficiency I found was the trigger. There was some grit and creep, and the trigger bow was a bit on the loose side. I addressed those issues (took about 30 minutes) and I have a wonderfully crisp and clean 3.5 lb pull. I've shot it quite a bit since. I still haven't had a malfunction (I am squarely at 900 rounds). I am not ordinarilly a Kimber fan. I won't say this has turned me into one, but I do really like this pistol. With a red dot I hit some pretty small stuff at 25 yards!

    I own four Kimber pistols. I bought two of them in 2007, one of them in 2008 and the most recent one in 2021. Each and every time I've pulled the trigger on any and all of them, they've gone bang, with the exception of two defective rounds in the past nearly twenty years that failed to fire despite good primer strikes (not the pistol's fault). Never a jam, ever.

      @ropertallen8841, the big difference is the trigger. Virtually nothing beats the trigger of a good 1911-style pistol. The DA first shot, SA follow-up shots of the CZ75 may have a limited advantage, but also a distinct disadvantage. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      The Shadow 2 compact is about to hit the market soon… But nothing beats the speed and precision one can achieve with a nicely tuned single action trigger like you get in a nice 1911/2011 pistol. No DA/SA trigger can even get close really… And that’s why the 1911 design is still relevant well over a century after it was invented.

    Wilson makes pistols that work.
    Kimber had the greatest number of “return to manufacture for repair or warranty” than any other manufacturer in the time I spent working in gun stores. Their 1911s just weren’t reliable.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  10 месяцев назад +3

      I keep reading about problems with Kimber handguns (mostly anecdotal), but my personal experience has been the opposite. This is my 19th Kimber handgun (including a whole bunch of 1911s from Ultra Carry to full-size, a couple Solos, several Micros, R7 Mako, EVO SP and K6) and, other than having to break in a couple of the 9mm 1911s, I haven't had any issues, even with the Solo. It could be that I've just been lucky, but I would think that if they really had systemic issues, I would have experienced at least one over the years, considering how much I've shot them. But thanks for watching and adding the info.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  10 месяцев назад +1

      @007Chancellor, I know Kimber went through a period of QC issues a while back. They also seem to sell more 1911s than most other manufacturers (just my personal observation), so I'd be interested in the percentage of returns based on number sold, not just the raw numbers. That would be a more meaningful indication of problems. Thanks for watching and adding to the discussion.

      My 4 Kimbers have been good, but my son YB will not own one for more time then a video or two. YB then sells them to me or others that are interested. He is a big Springfield Armory MilSpec Fan and owns 4 or 5 of them including two-tones that he changed over himself for a Custom MilSpec look that you can’t buy from the factory in that configuration. Best, B9USA. 😎🇺🇸👍💥💥🎥🧟‍♂️

      The Wilson is more refined with more attention to detail, but each is just as reliable so far and the Kimber is every bit as accurate in my hands as my EDC X9. And strangely, the Kimber fits my hand better than the Wilson, but my wife says the EDC X9 fits her hand better than the KDS9c.

  • @jimsember3528
    @jimsember3528 9 месяцев назад +1

    I just found your channel and I really appreciate how thorough you are. I have an EDCX9 that has close to 6000 rds through it. The trigger started out close to 3 lb 8 oz measured on my Lyman. I just measured it again at 3 lb 5.5 oz avg. I don't think Wilson would want to sell a carry gun in the less than 3 lb range. Maybe you should contact them? I don't suppose the Kimber will work with Wilson mags, will it?

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  9 месяцев назад

      I am not fond of carrying a pistol with a trigger lighter than 3 pounds, though I have made exceptions. For now, my EDC X9 is relegated to range fun, not daily carry, so I'm okay with that trigger.
      The Wilson mags won't fit into the KDS9c, but Canik TP9 SFX mags will not only fit, they lock in and feed just fine. Unfortunately, the Canik mags won't lock the slide back on the last round.

Although there are some advantages with the WC as opposed to the kds9c, theres not enough to justify the spread. Its hard to admit this considering the money i spent. That said, my opinion is obviously not the end all view. Buy what you will just keep your expectations within reason when spending over 3k for any firearm/s. On a final note & in an effort to be as fare as possible, the kds9c seems to error to the right no matter how straight you point. Not much worth talking about though.

      It may depend on whether you have one without a rail, or with a rail, or an optic with the taller sights. My KDS9c doesn't have a rail and it fits in holsters made for a Commander-size 1911 and my Wilson EDC X9. I'd try Muddy River Tactical to see what they say. For @quayshawndameron1349, @joedoolittle9481 and @danielmattera4298, please remember that if you point a weapon-mounted light to get "positive identification", and it turns out that the person doesn't warrant deadly force, you likely have committed a felony by pointing a gun at someone without justification. I know, I know - weapon-mounted lights are what the police use (different mission than ordinary civilian defenders) and its what the tacti-cool folks use, so everyone feels they need one, and of course, that necessitates a rail. I'm not a lawyer, but I did spend 38 years in law enforcement and I have discussed this with may lawyers - prosecutors and defense attorneys - and the consensus is that a citizen should NEVER use a weapon-mounted light to identify the target. Use a high quality hand-held light to make identification (preferably from behind cover) and only use a weapon-mounted light once you have determined that the person needs to be shot. But again, I do thank you for watching the video and adding your thoughts.

I would LOVE someone to come in and top Wilson at this price, but jeeeez there's so much left on the table and Kimber continues to confuse us with their weird design touches. None of what they're doing is good looking - just make the classic lines and checkering to a double stack. It would look so much more classic. Take more time and round those sharp edges and they'd still be 60% of the cost.

    If you prefer the Wilson Combat outright.........congratulations! You're a closeted lefty and prefer buying a name over anything else!

      The attention to detail on the Wilson is hard to beat, but both guns are 100% reliable and equally accurate. Thanks for watching.

      The name has held true for a long long time. IMO no customer service is more tentative. Only complaint I have is my custom cqb has made me hate every other gun I fire 🤷🏻‍♂️
      That being said I like Kimber for their price points. And being that I don’t have one currently I will almost certainly be picking this up since I’m in the market for a double stack 9 or a rapide for another 45. I hear good things and quite frankly RIA disappointed me thoroughly with my dud of a last purchase.
