Looks like this pistol has every conceivable enhanced technological advancement that you can cram into an EDC gun. My biggest concern is that if you purchase this pistol you will have reached the pinnacle of performance and practicality. There will be no conceivable reason or rational to purchase another firearm. It’s very concerning.

Or you know, you spent a shit ton of money on a 1911 and you have to justify that it was a reasonable purchase... by not purchasing another gun! lol

I have not purchased another pistol for that exact reason. My x9 just shoots and it easy to carry. It’s the size of a Glock 19, but oh is it sweet to shoot.

    • @Alen725

This gun have nothing that other guns wouldnt have. Its just average carry pistol performance wise. And its still beaten by others in many categories basically.
"no conceivable reason or rational to purchase another firearm"
But you still didnt present any reason to buy one. And you just said "another firearm", really? Like including rifles and shotguns? Wow you are such a fanboy right now if you think that this overpriced carry pistol can replace rifles or shotguns. Its not even close to being as comfortable as full sized pistols, its not gun for competitions, its not heavy duty gun, its not subcompact pocket gun, it cant replace literally any rifle or shotgun. Its just compact 1911 style with improved ergonomics and lighter materials. Looks like you have no clue about firearms in general.

It took me over a year to decide between this EDC X9 and the Staccato P Duo. I ended up with the Duo, last years model with full dust cover. It has a TLR-1 HL (the brown FDE one). It just got a Trijicon HRS last night. I went with the Duo because of it's finish, ambi safety with no extra cost (it's standard) and it comes with all of the hardware you need for whichever optic you choose to mount. It's a great gun. I have no regrets at all. Thanks Outlaw!

Absolutely one of the best feeling guns in hand I've ever owned. I bought this gun a year ago and have put about 2k rounds through it.
I absolutely love it, the only failure (just 1) I have had was hard primer related while trying to put the most garbage ammo ( because I always do that) I could find through it. This gun eats everything. It's expensive as hell but I think it's worth every penny. 👍

    • @babyblue8214

why do people purposely put garbage ammo through their guns especially something that costs over 2 grand? would you buy a new Corvette and put the cheapest gas in? never understood that...

I don't, but I do practice with it though as that is what I carry.

Unless something spectacular comes out this will be my Carry Gun from now on.

Now that's a cool pistol. I haven't heard anything bad about the EDC line. If they work reliably, then I think they're worth what Wilson Combat asks for them, it's a solid project executed very nicely. I can speak for Guncrafter Industries. I have had one of their Commander sized .50 GIs and it is a wonder to behold. The quality and craftmanship is absolute top notch and I have never had a malfunction out of it yet and I've put over 1000 rounds through it. ( I reload to keep costs down.) I also have a Colt Officer's model that was worked over by Wilson Combat back in the '80s and it was my carry gun for over 30 years. It would be a hard toss up between the two, but I carry my Guncrafter now because my colt is so old now, lol.

Great review however, you mentioned that some 2011 pistols have questionable reliability. The EDC X9 isn’t a 2011, it’s a handgun designed from the ground up to fire the 9mm cartridge. The mags share the tube with Walther PPQ and are produced by Mec-gar. I believe the design of the handgun is based on the Astra A7, Browning BDM, and of course the 1911. I own a EDC X9L and have a few thousand rounds through it with no issues.

I agree with you. A similar thing happened with the Sig P210a. People who clearly never even tried the gun put it way down on the basis of its price and the idea that European made ones are leagues better. Sig Sauer may have taken shortcuts, but what matters are the results. Bullseye shooters at my local league tested the P210a and believe it's the best/most accurate/precise production handgun you can buy today.

I like that Wilson Combat was smart enough to use a proven magazine made by MecGar from the Walther PPQ in the EDC X9. This is much better than STI or Staccato as they are now called with their 3 generations of mags going to a 4th soon. The magazine is the heart of reliability for a pistol. Great gun. But for the biggest bang for the buck get the Guns and Ammo 1992 handgun of the year:
    The Star Firestar 9 mm
It's frame is built around the 9 mm cartridge (way before the Springfield Armory EMP).
It has the same slide inside the rails designe as the Sig 210.
It is single action only and can be carried cocked and locked. The ambidextrous thumb safeties can be in safe position when you cycle the slide to load it.
If your hand likes a 1911 it will like the much smaller Firestar.
It has the same style checkering in the front and back straps as a Beretta M9A1.
It has a bushingless cone barrel, 3 dot sights with a barrel axis low in your hand.
It is also compact and reliable.
Unfortunately Star went out of business.
But you can find used ones with the hard chrome finish for around $400.
The only drawback is it's a little heavy for its size as it's
    all steel.
    Cheers

I did my own version of the X9 with a CZ P-01. One less round capacity for the P-01, but similar size and weight, can be set up with either a decocker or thumb safety, and I have to say that just for me, I would rather have the CZ-75b platform for the 9mm round, over just about any other design on the market. Nothing against the Wilson though, it's a phenomenal defensive handgun I'm sure. But I think I can buy 5 or 6 P-01's or one and a crap ton of practice ammo, for the price of the Wilson.

I've been thinking the same thing. I like these semi-custom guns, but also can't spend thousands and I want a decocker-only DA/SA. CZ-01 fits the bill. I'd get it through Cajun Gun Works. I really like the Kadet adapter for CZs, it means I'd have a .22LR pistol of the same quality for not much more than the 9mm. But recently I've been so impressed by the developments with new striker-fired guns like the P365 and Glock 43X that I'm tempted to make one of those my next carry gun instead. I'd much rather have a decocker-only DA/SA, and I know the higher-end heavier guns will shoot better, but the striker-fired guns are getting so light and compact that they're leaving everything else behind. And they're inexpensive. Hammer-fired guns haven't caught up. I might just train myself over my aversion to striker-fired carry guns (for safety reasons I like the longer trigger pull on the first shot with a DA/SA).

I have a standard, off-the-shelf P-01, and I absolutely adore that thing. It's the only gun I've ever had that I can fire basically as quickly as I can pull the trigger and get back on target and put an entire magazine in a group the size of an apple. It is incredibly soft shooting and it has the most natural point of aim of any pistol I've ever had. CZ hit it out of the park with that one.

I've had mine for over a year and it's a fantastic handgun. That said, if you've carried any of the popular polymer striker fired nines out there, you'll go back to them after a week of carrying the WC. It is noticeably heavier when carrying all day.

EDC makes the C2 seem like a budget option!
I really like the compact size 2011 concept. Big fan of the safety for appendix carry.
Running a Staccato C now, so will go with a C2.
Every pistol I try gets judged against the G19.5 and the P07... If it isn’t equal to or better than them, I try something else.

I’ve got two of these and been carrying one every day since shortly after they came out. It’s not a 2011. 2011s are a two piece double stack 1911 frame, this is a one piece frame built around the 9mm that is almost the exact same diameter as a single stack 1911. Also 2011 magazines have created a cottage industry for gunsmiths tweaking the mags to get them reliable in your 2011. The X9 uses the exact same exemplary magazine as the Walther PPQ M1 with different base pads. I'm a CZ fanboy myself but all of you saying the DWX compact does the same thing for a third of the money, where is your footage of that? Oh yeah none of you have ever shot that gun because it’s not in production. And lastly all of the comments about the price, good grief go buy a dozen high points and have a ball.

Wow. Learned something in the first 2 minutes. I picked one of these up at Brownells, and completely hated it because of the "hump" in the back strap. The guy that was helping me didn't say anything about it having interchangeable parts.
Also, the correct response to your wife's wise crack is "Don't threaten me with a good time." 😂

    • @toobalicious

I just watched a “gun guys” video where Ken Hackathorn (Mr. 1911) has switched from .45 to 9mm (Bill Wilson too). Evidently, if you shoot literally thousands, if not millions, of .45 rounds over the course of several decades, it can catch up with you in the form of arthrisis, etc. I’m not there yet, but even the real old school shooters are starting to reconsider…

No man escapes the ravages of time. But this pistol isn't a 1911 at all, so there is that. Look, I'm a 1911 guy through and through, and my pistol sitting right here is a .45, but a man has to be honest with himself when the time comes and realize that at some point it becomes harder to manage recoil and maintain the accuracy of those follow-up shots. If it means switching to 9mm to maintain the speed and accuracy I've built up over these decades, well... speed and accuracy are the name of the game, not .45 vs 9mm. I gotta make that call, and damn soon.
Who am I to argue with the likes of Bill Wilson and Ken Hackathorn?
