Your video is the reason i took on an eclipse project. I hope you see this almost a decade later. Ive watched your video dozens of times to keep me going. What a time to be into cars. I hope to revive my gsx in 2023. It be crazy to hear back from ya.
I have a 98 gs-t and I have nothing but respect for the kind of work you did to that DSM. keep them alive! if I had the money I would do all this to mine... great car!
Thanks much for posting this video. I think you made the right call to target a reliable 400hp instead of getting caught up in the biggest-horse numbers game. Good design is about finding the right balance for what you want to achieve. Things like longevity, reliability, the fun of doing stuff yourself, and artwork also matter. Not going broke is also a plus. :-)
You know, what you did here is rare, really, quite rare. Not many people, even ´ petrol-heads', as they call them here ( 'gear-heads' in the US) would attempt to take the engine and drive-train of a car apart, clean up the remnants, (after taking out the electrics), paint the engine bay in a number of coats, then put the whole thing back together again, as if it were a 3D puzzle. A person has to be committed to do this sort of work. You had a goal or vision and achieved it. I salute you. T.
I'm grateful you posted this video. This video is truly inspiring. And now I can't wait to rebuild my 91 engine and clean up my engine bay just as you did. The 1st and 2nd gen DSM's are such beautiful and awesome cars. Thanks again from Las Vegas.
Just came across this. This really inspired me to do a lot more of my own work to my new can. Just bought a 2002 Eclipse GS, a little beat up, but is still the best car I have ever driven so far. Thank you for taking us through your project, it was really enjoyable. Have a project of my own I need to start on.
Awesome build man, Ive been buidling mine for over 4 years now. I respect your craftsmanship and dedication. Glad to know there are till a few DSMers left.
I love builds that are done the right way, I'm planning on doing this to my 1G down the road :) there is nothing like true bonding, then taking your car completely apart and making everything look and feel new. Respect my good sir is what you get.
I'm impressed man! I think everybody should be! What you have done here is insane! And i can see the enthusiasm on your face, voice, etc. Nice one!May GOD help yu!
i had a 1997...worked my ass of and bought it cash...a month later...i traded it....never again will I be so stupid. I love eclipses...if only I could go back in time...I'd still have mine....great video man.
I saved for 4 years, I am just like most of you that always wanted to do something like this, I saved, figured out what I wanted to do and did it. Thanks for the kind words. the Denso 660s run like 720s and yes they are maxxxxed out at 86% duty cycle with the fuel pressure raised a bit. The new 1000cc injectors didn't fit because of my intake manifold so they had to tune on the 660s.
I have never found a short shifter that has actually made me shift better than the stock shifter, with that said I would only get a short shifter as a performance mod. I don't want to shorten it just for looks and lose out on shifting ability. Thanks for checking out my build.
Mad props, as a proud owner of a tuned 2nd Gen, impressed with your build. I'm in the process of designing a new set-up. Anyhow, well done! Oh, that sheptrans is the shit!
BIG thumbs up to you. Nice looking ride. Can't wait to get me '98 GSX back on the road. Very inspiring video. Thanks for sharing with us. Some people don't understand why we do what we do but this is what's all about.
Dude I have so much respect for you! I'm currently going through an engine swap on my car and i'm also doing it all on my own so i kinda know what you have gone through. But the fact you took the time out clean it as well as you did including the respraying of the bay. great video and build thread!
bro many many props this came out awesome. im just now buying a home with a two car garage and cant wait to buy a gsx project. ive built before but you did alot of work, more then i assumed would be done. this car looks brand new.
wow, much respect to you. i am so inspired by this i almost want to go tear into my 95 tsi at 10 degrees F out side at 12:00 am lol i love what you did. two thumbs up.
Really good honest question, to be honest I taught myself everything. It all starts with a sad sorry lol.. No dad to help me so I learned what I needed. Lots of reading and listening to respected people.
im just in awww.. what a great build. you should be proud of yourself bro! most people dont have the time or patience to build such a fantastic piece of work. i hope it bring you years and years of fun bro
While I am not a fan of Eclispes. I can appreciate the work you did for your baby. I would do the same stuff to my car. Though I have yet had to go to the lengths you did. Nothing but respect. :)
I loved the video and your inspiration behind this build. I just get totally dumbfounded though by projects like these. You pour every ounce of your blood sweat and tears into this car... And a truck t-bones you because they weren't paying attention. I never understood it. Cool video though and props
Oh yea that is a really nice color of red, and looks great on a DSM. Glad I can motivate someone to get back into the DSM game. Post your video when your done, I think that would be great!
really great job man! I'm inspired to do this but at the moment i'm only 16, and i need to take care of my eclipse so i can do this in a couple or years. Thanks for the motivation!
Man you really made cry REALLY!!! Perdon por escribir en español pero tu cara de felicidad al haber concluido tu proyecto no tiene precio,le pusiste toda tu alma y tu esfuerzo FELICIDADES me gustaria tener solo un poco de esa dedicacion que tienes congrats man thank you for sharing with us :')
Thanks man! Huh actually I get a lot of people that really like the rims on there, up close the offset looks amazing. But to each his own, thanks for checking out my video.
Awesome build man! Built my first SRT from the ground up before it was rear ended so in the process of doing another now, so I know what the process is like. Once I'm done with that i want to build a white GSX. Awesome job again man
thanks. im getting my first "real" car (02 lancer es) as ive been driving a hand-me-down taurus 92 until the ECM went out. so im starting to get into these build videos. will do something similar after college :P
Thanks man I am the same as you I have respect for many cars besides mine, I have always liked the mustangs in fact I owned a 1995 v8 5.0 mustang at one time. I raced a blue mustang the other day was a lot of fun. Dude gave me the thumbs up when I passed him.
i see you love eclipses just like i do 2gen are the most beautiful cars in my opinion i have own 2 a 95 rs and now a 98 gs-T spyder convertible i just wish i had the money and time to do what you just did...truly envy you that was awesome work thanks for uploading this it put a smile on my face...
Excellent video. I was thoroughly entertained. I hope you are proud of your work. If you don't do this for a living you should. I would pay you! I do mean making videos or building cars!!! Extremely detailed!!!!! (Honest Truth...I have NEVER responded to a you tube video!) Pretty cool man!
Good job bro. I was thinking I wanted to get a 99, just because it’s the newest model and has the most features. I want 500 hp to the wheels, so I may end up having to do an engine build like this. Thanks for doing it first!
I have a 01 eclipse and I love it. It was my first car and honestly I still have it. However I need to have it sent in for a engine rebuild much like you did. It still would not be a beast like yours but just wanted to share some of the eclipse love. Awesome video!!! P.S. I know drive a 2012 challenger, so the best of both worlds JDM and domestic!!
Hahaha! Man, would you believe that my first car was also an Eclipse (but a '97 one), and my second favorite car which I'm intending on getting later on is a '70s Challenger T/A! Those two cars are simply the best in my opinion. Muscle and Import, best of both worlds as you say it. Hells yeah brother!
Yes I do realize that, infact I have done it that way before on my other eclipse, but on this video your watching it made more sense to me to remove them before taking the motor out because it was all going to come off anyways so I did it before removing the motor to make it a bit easier to remove the motor. The manifolds are not at all hard to remove and give you so much more clearance. I likey clearance :) Thanks for checking out the video.
At 16 I bought my first eclipse it was a 91 eclipse gs and I loved it and it was cheap on insurance compared to the turbo models. Buy what you can afford but for me I stared with Non Turbo models.
It takes dedication and a whole lot of time for what you did, beautiful build man I had fun watching this! I wanna pick up one of these gsx awd but there hard to find!
The stock manifold I have was newly ceramic coated when I bought the car, and it perfectly fit my turbo to the exhaust housing to the down pipe. When I get new (ERL) cast headers (someday :)) I will need a new exhaust housing and maybe a new DP. The exhaust manifold is still not a restriction at this power level, but will someday be upgraded when I want a bit more power. I plan to install GSC2 cams at the same time. When I do that I will be close to 450awhp, but I am enjoying400for now.
i miss my 98 barcelona red gsx now!!! and thats saying alot seeing as to how i let her go for a 390hp mach 1 :( i think im gonna sell the stang and buy a dsm again! i still have my hx35 turbo and supporting mods for it :D thanks for the motivation hopefully in a few months i can repost my build vid to this!
Thanks for checking out the video. If I wanted 600-1000hp I would have planned for that. I wanted 400hp reliably, not 750hp that will break a lot more often than 400.
Dude awesome videooo I have 9 7 gsx and wus just about to sell it but yu men ,yu just motivated me to keep this baby and rebuilt from scratch.DSM ^love the vid att NYC
Great video! made me want to start wrenching at my own broken Spyder dsm... unfortunately, i am really short on cash and am forced to keep looking at my project sit in the driveway.....*tears* Ill have my awd spyder some day.
You have a beautiful car. In fact is the car of my dreams man. I would kill to have this car. I've been looking all over in my area and have found a few but all in rough condition. I was jealous through this whole video but hard work pays off you're car came put beautiful.
Thanks so much for the love and respect in the comments, I really apreciate it! It was a lot of work but I would and will do it all again someday. In like 15 years lol...
i can tell u was nerves on first start up! lol i would be to after all that long work, i give u mad props tho, car is sick an u did it right! wish people around where i live was cool like u lmao
haha yea the rims are a hit or miss kinda thing...Those rims are no longer on the car, I got some black 18" Enkies now, they look sick! Thanks for checking out my video.

owning a GSX means you know what you're doing, but actually rebuilding the thing it's a while other story. my hats off too you bro
Thanks much for posting this video. I think you made the right call to target a reliable 400hp instead of getting caught up in the biggest-horse numbers game. Good luck with getting the car. I started out ten years ago with a 97 rs! Glad this video helps you figure out some mods that you will do.
