As I understand it, Peter Steele wrote this song based on his experience with his beloved mother, who he felt was let down by the medical profession. One can infer that she was in such a position as described in the song. On the same album is a lovely song called 'Nettie' which is basically Peter's love letter to his mother. It's about as close to a heartfelt ballad as Type O gets. For contrast, 'Todd's Ship Gods' is about Peter's father and his imparting of rigid masculinity tropes to his son. I recommend both, as good songs and also discussion fuel.
Bingo! He lost his mother before recording the 'Life Is Killing Me' album. He was quite disillusioned with medical system and it's reflected in the album.
I watched my mother pass after years of fighting cancer...we were hoping for a miracle toward the end. Hospice/comfort care is sort of the final chapter, no need for life support...after that the hatred of god takes hold...only for a few years. Then my kid sis and dad pass from cancer within a month of each other...life support would’ve delayed the inevitable by a couple days...how selfish are we as humans to extend one’s suffering. I have made my peace with the lord and thank him every day for the life he has granted me. I enjoy your videos and keep the Type O reactions coming.
The more I get into Peter Steele and Type O Negative, the more I like them. Absolute brilliant stuff. One of the most underappreciated bands of all time.
(Sorry for my poor English, it's not my first language.) This is definitely my favorite song by Type O Negative! (I even tattooed their logo on my arm saying ''Life Is Killing Me'' underneath it) As of right now i'm 11 months clean from heroin (and other opiates and amphetamines) after a long 7 year battle with drug and alcohol addiction. Would probably never make it if it wasn't for my fiancee and bands such as Type O Negative, Alice In Chains, Mad Season, KoRn, Pantera and Down. Music is truly the strongest weapon humanity has ever created, it has power to heal people, bond people together, and speak directly to your heart. As a songwriter and musician myself i can heavily relate to everything Peter did, and this song in particular hits way too close to home. Just the line ''Just let me die with dignity. It's not suicide, simply mercy.'' brings back so many flashbacks of horrible heroin withdrawals when i just wanted to end it all right there and then. Since at that point i wasn't even shooting up to get high, but rather out of fear of having to go through another withdrawal (if you've been there you know what i'm talking about.) Even though i'm nearly one year clean it's not easy at all, far from that. As a matter of fact i'm diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Extreme Social Anxiety and Selective Mutism and heavy insomnia on top of all that. All of that requires me to take 9 to 11 pills a day (benzos, antidepressants, ambiens and muscle relaxants.) Yup.. all of those pills just to get by and feel somewhat ''normal''. Even though i'm just a month away from a full year of sobriety, nothing can help the fact that i feel like life is killing me.. PS: To anyone reading this, i just want to say: There is hope and you can overcome chemical dependency as long as you want it, and as long as you keep trying hard to achieve it. Vin, Sori i love your channel guys (we met few times through your livestreams) so keep up the great content. Love from Serbia! :)

Most people with chronic illnesses and many with just passing illness/injuries have had doctors that didn’t care if you died, just cared about a paycheck. I have had good doctors as of recent but that was not always the case. I have had specialists pulling for me to get Medicaid, which I now have. I had doctors get me in touch with charities who helped while I was waiting, since Medicaid is a long process. I had my small intestine ruptured back in June. I went septic because I was afraid of the bill. Why? Because I’ve been sick since childhood and mostly uninsured. It has been very difficult. I’ve had absolutely horrible doctors and consultations for surgery that left me in tears, because I kept hearing I’d die without medical care, but they didn’t care enough to help me find a way to pay for it.
I remember the day this album/song came out in 2003. I was stationed in Okinawa Japan and went right to the PX and was surprised is was even there. I always looked forward to new stuff from them and will always feel gypped that we didn't get that next record they were just about to work on when Peter died.
I remember going kayaking and listening to this album very loud pissing off a Disney Dad and soccer Mom in the parking lot where I unloaded my kayak to hit the breakers of Centerport beach on Long Island north shore....so glad I irritated them and who knows maybe their kids are now Type O fans😉
I'm definitely in the "assisted dying should be allowed" camp. I had to put a beloved pet down last year and it's still devastating but if we do that to animals with a terminal illness, why can't we give humans that choice?
I agree with you on almost all points, and for that reason I noticed something I find kind of ironic in your views. You mentioned how assisted suicide would end up "culling the weak," and you oppose that because the weak are just as much image bearers as anyone else. I agree with you, and that's one of the (certainly among other) main reasons I oppose socialized medicine/single-payer healthcare/medicare-for-all/whatever the term of the day is. I believe (and I think I have good reasons) that government controlled healthcare would inevitably result in just what you were describing. The government (specifically whatever subdivision is in charge of medicine) would decide who's worth the cost of caring for and who's not. When Grandma is no longer contributing value (as they define it) to the state/society, while she had a good run and now that's it. What the correct solution to the obvious problems we have with the almost insurmountable cost of healthcare is, I don't know with certainty. But I'm almost completely certain what the correct solution is not, and that's government run healthcare. And I know you think I oppose it just because I'm selfish and don't want my taxes raised (you said that in another video), but I can assure you that's like 5th on my list of reasons I think government run healthcare would be terrible.
The question comes down to how much suffering one can physically or mentally take. You dont know what your limit is until you reach it. I feel when you hit the limit and you wanna check out it's up to you.
My older brother and I had to make the call to remove our mother from life support. It was a total brain-death situation. It's something awful that follows you around, but it's not really guilt. Anyway, great song. Always remember to take Type O with a HUGE grain of Monty Python sarcasm.
Also, as far as doctor assisted suicide, I’m for doctor assisted suicide for terminal patients, but it’s something that should be reserved for incurable suffering that cannot be eased. It’s also something that should be part of a living will. I have been in a minimally conscious state. It was absolutely horrific and I’m glad it was temporary. If someone chooses to opt out of a permanent state of that, it should be part of a living will. I believe it can be, but we really need to teach children this. I have been in three NDE situations. I’m lucky to have minimal nerve and memory issues, and I’m lucky to now have Medicaid. It’s something we can only change through getting our hands dirty. The government can’t do it. Same with abortion. The only way to reduce it is to reduce unwanted pregnancy. That would also help with other atrocities like foster care. I had a fairly easy experience with that as my second family adopted me early, but I’ve seen some real horror stories from friends. We the people need to teach our children and talk about these things. Living wills. Contraception. Consent. Etc. I’m an anarchist. As such, I think it’s everyone’s responsibility to be as informed and also informative about what they want. Nothing should be banned, because we should know better than to do anything illegal. We should know how to think ahead for ourselves and for our community. We should know long before we die, if we want to be put on life support, or not. We should know at what point we cannot keep living in pain. It’s just such taboo topics, but we should break those taboos.
Discovered this channel some time ago, I believe it was with Christian Woman. That whole thing kind of turned me off to the channel but I've recently started lurking around and have been enjoying your guys' content. I don't always agree with your views or opinions but that's what makes the world great. Glad I could put my bias aside and listen to some differing opinions. Much love to you both.
I don't think its anyones choice but the person suffering to decide whether or not they live. I think assisted suicide should be legal for those who are dealing with alot of suffering. If you are not in their shoes how can you say its not right?
The ends justify the means in our society. Is the surgeon motivated to heal or to cut? Does it matter if the life is saved? Either that or Peter Steele really doesn’t being kept in the waiting room.
I think the distinction Vin makes between actively killing someone and pulling the plug is silly and arbitrary. Pulling the plug is still killing them, in an indirect way. Just because it "leaves them to nature" doesn't make it different. It's precisely the "leaving them to nature" part that makes it killing. You are actively participating in their death. That's like disallowing a cancer patient chemotherapy under the guise of "leaving them to nature." Either make your stance on assisted suicide universally consistent, or accept that your morals are arbitrary.
I agree. All life is suffering, people wanting out early are weak. No one is special because their suffering is different from someone else. They simply have an ego problem. You stay in this life as long as physically possible, by whatever means necessary. That's it. Fuck your suicidal thoughts.
@@VinAndSori The technology to keep them alive wasn't an option. When the option exists, and is within your power, it becomes a choice. There's a massive difference. Right, killing is a verb. Pulling the plug is also a verb, an action that directly leads to death. What you're doing is essentially the same as blaming a bullet for killing instead of the one pulling the trigger.
Assisted suicide is legalized murder, which is why the Catholic Church is against euthanasia, as it is against abortion. It is a very slippery slope when humans begin to decide who gets to die simply because they are not of a "perfect" standard of health or whether they are a burden to another healthy person in the case of abortion.
You know, there is a band out there that is incredibly similar to these guys called Amon Amarth. What makes them similar you ask? They are also musicians. Now I know that isn't much of a similarity, but if you check out the song Into the Dark you can decide for yourself. Hope all is well and God bless.
Religion paradoxally makes Vin so insensitive on pulling of the plug, and I know that logic, but it is suprising taking into account all religious and emotional approach of belivers😳😁. What a lack of simple human-nature emotions!😱 IT resembles me some hardcore religious ppl or fanatics...it is logical, but for me so, so unhuman
(Sorry for my poor English, it’s not my mother tongue) I got you Vin when you spoke about the Insurance + Hospitals and bla bla. I used to work for Signa Dental Insurance, in the Benefits and Claims department. Believe me, right there I witnessed so many calamities that pretty much addressed me to left that job. It’s unbelievable what these so-called “insurances” suck in ppl’s money from their bags and these ppl (most likely elder ones) don’t realize it. But anyways, as always, good reaction you both performed right there. Keep up the good work.
If your son has contacted Ben Shspiroism, he would know how the insurance companies work in concert with both hospitals and the government to maximize their profits. It's been a common theme he has talked about every time the socialized healthcare thing comes up. You wouldn't have to explain it to him if he was actually paying attention.
I think of this everytime I get a bill for a surgery or medical appointment from 2 or 3 YEARS ago. You think you're done paying, but oh no; turns out there were 5 anesthesiologists in the room while I was under and they allllll want their cut! 😂😂😂😂😢😢😂😂😂😢😂😢
Whenever I start to respect Vin’s perspective, he’ll throw out an ‘I would make it illegal for someone not to carry their rapist’s baby to term’... I can’t begin to imagine how horrific that would be for someone. ‘Personhood from conception’ is non sensical enough without someone’s bodily autonomy being legally superseded by a non-sentient humanoid cell cluster. Your perspective and admitted intent is a health risk.
You should react to a "new" black metal band called Tales of Dhvaras. They used to make black metal in the early 90s, and have now recently started back up. It is very similar to like Satyricon ect. I would recommend Tales of Dhvaras - Slay , and Full Speed or nothing :)
The way I see it as for "suicides" when it comes to terminal or mental illness, if its justified to the individual that requests it then that's their choice and that's something they'll have to face God for. And as for abortions, I'm against it except for victims of rape, life and death (mother or child or both) due to medical conditions or severe complications that can be life long suffering. Those should be the mother/parent choice to make that decision. But to have an abortion as an alternative for birth control....HELL NO!!! But regardless in the end it ALWAYS ENDS WITH GOD! Love the work you guys do, keep it up 🤟🤘🙏

I always felt Type O transcended the pigeon hole of goth metal...they had such a vast array of sound...eclectic & even more brilliant than the Beatles...one of their main influences that I sincerely feel they surpassed with timeless gemstones like this one.

Ahh Type-O....always bringing up the light issues.
Great band! Saw them back 1995 with Pantera!!!!
i enjoyed the sounds of this album this song was cool too they really creative at keeping the listener entertained
Epic conversation!🎶💚🖤🎼🖤💚🎶
Omg please tell me you guys are gonna be doing wolf moon???!!!!!!
RIP Lord Petrus!!! None More Negative 💚🖤🖤🖤 Vin and Sori Stay Negative 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾i have his bio book Soul On Fire, it's a great read.
One of my favorites by them, the whole album is killer !
At last some TON🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 thx!👍🏽
The ends justify the means in our society. Is the surgeon motivated to heal or to cut? Does it matter if the life is saved? Either that or Peter Steele really doesn’t being kept in the waiting room.
BLACKPINK - HOW YOU LIKE THAT
BLACKPINK - KILL THIS LOVE
BLACKPINK - DDU DU DDU DU
Advent Sorrow - Pestilence Shall Come.
BTW, interesting that the keyboard player hung it up and became a paramedic. Just an FYI.
Yep! Josh walked away from it all.
Took it personally when Peter died from an aortic aneurism me thinks...
Type O is one of my fav bands. World coming Down is my favorite song from them.
I think that’s ridiculous. Was everyone a murderer then prior to the advent of technology. Killing is a verb. It is an action.
POR FIN !!! ❤️
Kreator - Enemy of god
(Sorry for my poor English, it’s not my mother tongue)
I got you Vin when you spoke about the Insurance + Hospitals and bla bla.
Great song...love potion#9
Again, do Haunted per version by Type o Negative reaction
I think of this everytime I get a bill for a surgery or medical appointment from 2 or 3 YEARS ago. You think you're done paying, but oh no; turns out there were 5 anesthesiologists in the room while I was under and they allllll want their cut! 😂😂😂😂😢😢😂😂😂😢😂😢
Yup!!!
This is why moral absolutes don't work. Situational ethics is superior to religious moral absolutes
8.1??? Are you freaking nuts Sori...Vin did it justice with the 9.4 but Cmon this song is another Type O masterpiece...deserves a perfect 10. 🎯
9.4 is a beautiful score...thnx Vin🦾
You should react to a "new" black metal band called Tales of Dhvaras. They used to make black metal in the early 90s, and have now recently started back up. It is very similar to like Satyricon ect. I would recommend Tales of Dhvaras - Slay , and Full Speed or nothing :)
@MOsKOn It never did as far as i know. The popularity of it might have slowed down a bit. but it is still popular here.
Love the work you guys do, keep it up 🤟🤘🙏
We are getting Warmer maybe before the Jihad you will get to "Burnt Flowers Fallen/In Praise Of Bacchus" shout out to Blake X who already did this one \m/ \m/
musically theres some black sabbath vibes i like it alot :) thanks Jay for the song!
Everyone should have the right to a painless death.
Halfway through his video and we're still talking about abortion. How did this happen we don't need any more people on this planet anyway
Type O Negative - Gravitational Constant T_T
Sori Yes the Metal Bible
the brutal truth
🤘🏻👀🤘🏻
Hopefully next time you guys decide to record a song, I'll be home to play some bass for it. Btw, great song by one of my all-time faves.
GG ALLIN live video review please
I have mental illnesses and medications where the last resort and well I reached that point so I took the medication route I finally felt fine I finally had a good quality of life for the first time in my life I'm no Christian but it felt like my cup runeth over just for insurance to fucking drop me and I slowly observed myself slowly descend into a fucking hole
This song really hits hard for me since my mom died due to neglections of a doctor.
Check out Fake Healer by Metal Church.
Rest in peace Pete!
I always felt Type O transcended the pigeon hole of goth metal...they had such a vast array of sound...eclectic & even more brilliant than the Beatles...one of their main influences that I sincerely feel they surpassed with timeless gemstones like this one.
We Hate Everyone, would be pretty neat, I reckon
Scars of life:purity,dead and gone,shallow,mute
Vin and Sori right now money is really tight but I'd love to see your reaction to the Bright Eyes song "Haile Selassie"...Conor Oberst is a great song writer with a vast intellect and vocabulary. Bright Eyes is his most famous band but Vin I think you'd like his band The Desaparcidos the most. Conor also does solo stuff, The Better Oblivion Community Center, and The Mystic Valley Band.
React to Angra - Carolina IV
Love potion # 9
Merrimack - Gospel of the void
I think what that song it's a little about eutanasia, you know betwen some things more, or maybe I am wrong.
You guys should react to hatebreed’s “conceived through an act of violence” to go along with your pro choice conversation
Vin your right, for me it's a battle everyday but i'am still her whit help off family and my dokter (ending my life)
Glad ur still with us!
How do you not get a copyright strike? I can't post music on mine
Lorna Shore - King ov Deception
💚💚💚💚💚💚
ASHES dIVIDE - The Stone
Therapy? - Diane
EVEREVE - Prologue: The Bride Wears Black
All 3 albums are masterpiece. This is a band for those who were young in 90 s.
@@dddccc4840 I know 5 albums of them
Last time i search on wikipedia they had 3 albums😀. You re right! they have 6 now? But for me first 3 are true Evereve. 😀
@@dddccc4840 Very good!
shong?
I've never been able to listen to Type-O post-Bloody Kisses. I never really revisit that album either. I guess I just really like Origen Of The Feces & Carnivore's 1st album. Slow Deep and Hard is good too, but I prefer Origen...
These all have a perfect balance of metal & nyhc.
Should give his first band, 'Carnivore,' a listen to. Songs like 'Jesus Hitler,' 'Thermonuclear Warrior' or 'Angry Neurotic Catholics.'
Carnivore was 2nd fallout was first
They did it
they already did: ruclips.net/video/E0vGzE0471g/видео.html

Please react to Die With Me of Type O Negative?
Bloody wet kisses
As a Christian doesn’t your belief say that death is technically unnatural?
