For me, this reads as a song of reflection of loss for Steele. He was a hopeless romantic and poured everything out for each woman and, despite his love for the women he loved, each “relationship” failed.

Steele was born on January 4, 1962, in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York City, to a Catholic family, and attended Edward R. Murrow High School in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn. His father (1921-1995) was of Polish and Russian descent and his mother (1922-2005) of Scottish-Irish, Norwegian, and Icelandic ancestry.

Despite the title, the opposite to this song lyrically by Type O would probably be Love You to Death. Another one of their best, highly recommended. Also they have a really good version of Anesthesia at Wacken 2007 on youtube, check that one out.

I've just discovered TON in the last couple of years and Peter's songwriting is very raw and emotionally based on his personal experiences, both good and bad. There are a few goofier kind of songs and they do great covers too. He wrote a song about his mother called Nettie which is very good.

You chose type o negative anesthesia for your first reaction to type o. You get an IMMEDIATE subscription from me. You picked one of the best type o songs to start with IMO. I've been a fan since slow, deep, and hard came out and still continue to love this band to this day. Peter Steele was one of the most incredible writers, and performers especially with his stage fright. I saw them 17 times through the years and their shows never disappointed. I honestly can't single out any one song to tell you to listen to but rather you check out their entire discography.

Just a suggestion be very careful if you continue with Type O Negative because many of their songs, even their "Official" videos, are heavily edited. I would check their album length and compare it to the video length to keep the crowd from mobbing you over reviewing edited stuff.

    • @SlimRhyno
      @SlimRhyno Год назад +1

Be still, my beating heart. Creepy Green Light is one of those "deep cuts" that I consistently recommend when friends and family come asking for something musically fresh to their ears. Yet, for whatever reason, very few ever come to truly appreciate the song. There's just something sublime about the recording that, while it may only hit with a select few, when it does it hits like a freight train. As a little aside, I have played guitar for years, and I spent waaay too much time trying to duplicate that brutal, yet still incredibly melodic, fuzz tone. I only found it when I accidentally dropped my vintage ProCo RAT pedal, and somehow the drop damaged the circuit just enough to get really gritty without losing the vocal qualities. Tone surely is a black art. Anywho, thank you for sharing, as I always treasure it whenever anyone brings up Type O in general, but ESPECIALLY Creepy Green Light. 🥰🤘 ... Also, WILL YOU MARRY ME?!!?
      P. S. - If your answer was no, then I was TOTALLY kidding. 😏

I love Type O Negative and I'm glad you love this song too! They have a lot to offer, so I hope you get to more. As others said, the opposite of this is "Love You to Death", which is a great track. I will say that some of their early anti-love songs are pretty extreme lyrically (you other TON fans know what I'm talking about), so I hope you'll wait on those until you get a better feel for the band. They have a lot of great music with some very tongue-in-cheek and dark humor as well. Black No. 1 and Christian Woman and two of their classics.
Recommendations: Has anyone recommended Stabbing Westward??? If you don't knew them, try Shame and/or What Do I Have to Do. They basically have nearly two albums worth of anti-love songs lol

With that being said, I feel the need to tell you that he has a song on a collaboration album from roadrunner called “roadrunner united” where he does the vocals and I’m sure lyrics for the collaboration between him , Joey jordison(drummer 😊slipknot) , and the bassist and guitarist from “death”(I think). I agree with your thoughts on bands continuing after death of a key member. I think that is especially true in this case. Peter Steele was so unique. Both vocally and physically. His stature was imposing and leant a lot to the bands stage presence.
Reminds me of the Death of Ian Curtis of Joy Division. Another true Rock n Roll tragedy. The band carried on with a new name, sound and image. The new name was New Order. Ian Curtis was also unique in his sound. I can't imagine anyone replacing him and singing his songs.
Check out some Joy Division. Their story is also a good read.

Suicide silence should have changed their name after Mitch died.

12:44 "You don't want to know how many times I've listened to this already" lol. Their music has always had that quality, not only because its good music, but because they always drew from the heart or life experience to create their songs and there's almost always something there that the listener can connect to. Probably all of us have been through a time in or life where you just don't feel anything, or despair, and if that experience could be given a voice this is what I imagine it would sound like. Unsuccessfully Coping is a good companion piece to this. A lot more raw, but in the same vein.

I discovered TypeO with Origin of the feces in the 90s - they have been there always since - as a dad there is not as much time as before but everytime i listen to (especially this song - or Nettie - YOU SHOULD DO A RRACTION ON THAT ONE) them - everything comes back in the fraction of a second ... what a shame that there will NEVER be even one more song from them ... what a great artist has gone when he passed ... his lyrics have never been topped and never will be ...
One thing left - never say "next time"!
As mentioned i am a fan since a very long time - but missed the chance to ever see TypeO live ...
Sometimes - actuall ALWAYS - there is no next time...

Keeping with the golf rock theme can you do Analysis of the “birthday massacre” Maybe the song superstition, under your spell, in the dark. They have so much good music it’s hard to choose a song

I'm so relieved that you liked Type O! I have been waiting for this 🖤. They will always be my favorite band...RIP Peter! Don't fall for their self deprecation they are very special and very deep. Peter wrote everything, such a complex and interesting dude. Only time I have ever truly mourned a person I don't actually know. I'm glad I saw them 4 times before he died.
BTW, he happens to be the reason I play bass...and as a bass fan yourself, he's a true original and he sings and plays! I think for the sake of anti-valentine's you should be listening to "Love you to Death".
If they moved you this much...you're a Type O Fan forever now...get ready for the rabbit hole my friend. I hate Type O Covers because nobody can do it...but this is worthy. ruclips.net/video/q60g1l5--eU/видео.html

@@jamesnorthan3284 He does a pretty good job! His bass playing has come a long way...still not quite Pete but he does a good job now that he uses a pick!

Nobody will ever be Pete. He was a once in a lifetime gift to us, for which I'm truly greatful. His music has lifted me out of some really dark places. I'm just glad Denis Pauna is keeling his spirit alive sonically for all of us!

Also, I had the great pleasure to meet Pete and talk casually with him outside his bus...not fanboying...for almost half an hour. Just discussing life in general. Such a down to earth, truly nice guy! No bullshit, just honest. This world lost a great sou!l RIP Pete!

Lauren you spoke to my soul when you had your mini-rant about replacing lead singers. Stone Temple Pilots was Scott Weiland. When he was gone, so was I.

Yep I had to google who they replaced him with because I checked out when he passed. They were another great part of the amazing music in the 90s.

It works for some bands. Iced Earth has had 5 different vocalists. Granted, most fans prefer Matt Barlow, but even he wasn't the original singer, he was (I think) the third. Iron Maiden's original singer only lasted 2 albums, then everyone pretty much forgot about him.
