Yes, but remarkably it was recorded when she was 11. There's an interview with her on You Tube where she explains that she recorded it as an 11 year-old, it was re-recorded for release as a single when she was 13 - but there was a mix-up with the tapes and it was the original version which ended-up being released.
Legend has it, this song was destined for Patsy Cline and, when Patsy died, the writer sat on it. For years. Then he heard LeeAnn and thought she was worthy of it. And there you have it.
What you guys were skating over Leanne had that power in control of her voice at the age of 13. The song was actually written for Patsy Cline but she died in a plane crash and the author kept it on his shelf until one day I can't remember if it was at a church or at some little festival or something he heard and he gave it.
Being her first hit, at 13 years old, skyrocketed her early career. She has amazing pipes still. Her vocals on The Masked Singer brought her a new, younger fan base.
Now you should do her live version of "Unchained Melody" when she was 14 years old. LeAnn is amazing. You can hear her sing several songs if you watch her video from her time on The Masked Singer. She was the Sun and she won that year.
LeAnn Rimes was raised and got her start in Texas! So I believe the shots were they was swimming, was in New Braunfels Texas. A big designation for tubing down the river! Most people compare Leanne to Patsy Cline! To me her career, is were her it should have been with that voice! She should be bigger than Taylor Swift by far! I would not even be able to tell you a Taylor Swift song. But as soon as I hear Leanne sing. I know exactly who it is!!
One of the best lady country singers of all time, her Acapulco version of “amazing grace “ is the best version ever made. Also, she does one of the best national anthems ever. And I’m not that big a fan of the female country singers, except her, Pam Tillis, Mary Chapin carpenter and a few others.
Got to see Leeann sing at the age of 10-12 at the Grapevine Opry over in Grapevine Texas …. Lord that girl had us all standing on our feet blew the roof off the house every time she sang
My wife and I were at a mall in southwest Ft Worth and we heard this huge voice start singing. Walked half the length of the mall to see who was singing and it was this little girl about 10. Waited around until we could ask her name. Unreal hearing such a young child with her voice.
Awesome reaction, so glad you loved her voice. Leann has a phenomenal voice (I think she was 13 years old when she sang this one) and superb control, please add her live performance of Carol of the Bells to your list.
when I first heard this song ,I thought it was patsy....since this song was originally written for patsy cline who never had the chance to preform or record it....LeAnn did her proud. excellent voice and at only 13
Check out a more recent song “Probably Wouldn’t Be This Way” LeAnn is a fantastic vocalist!!! Did you know she was 13 years old when she sang this song?
She covered George Jones's "He stopped loving her today" for a tribute or cover. It is my favorite version of the song. Plus, she sings Amazing Grace also WOW
That's true Bill Mac, long time radio DJ, had written the song intending it for Patsy, but we know the rest of Patsy's story, but Leann, nailed and being so young when she did was amazing, hey guys listen to Leann, sing "HOW DO I LIVE WITHOUT YOU" great voice!! Give it a listen.
@Bourbon Country Reacts - even after all of these years, to this day…this song and her voice/talent still just floor me. Her mother, Patsy Cline, would be so proud [just kidding of course since they’re not related]! LeeAnn also won, one of the recent seasons of “The Masked Singer”…as did Jewel…two superb vocal talents proving their vocal chops, competitively the hard way…winning on their talents and not their looks and reputations.
@@BourbonCountryReacts - both of them could easily leave me dashed upon the rocks…as could Olivia…superb voices…easy on the eyes and ears also 👍🏻🥃 As you may know, Jewel also has the yodeling skill…really impressive when singers have it right!
She does an awesome cover of Debbie Boone's You light up my life and How do I live shows of her voice. I think shes been doing more bluesy music lately.
Yes! Thank you Joanna. I have a whole list of female songs I hoped to bribe for. This is the next one on my list. What a treat! LeeAnn Rimes has a stunning voice. Also a favorite that she does is How do I Live. But I am torn between her version and Trisha Yearwood's version of that song. Great reaction guys.
She was on Star Search when she was eight. I think 13 when she had her first hit. She was the first to record "How Do I Live" for the movie Con Air but someone at the studio decided that having a teen sing the main song for rated R movie was not appropriate. Trisha Yearwood ended up singing it and she did an amazing job as well. They even sang it together at one point for an awards show or something. I suggest the song for both women. For LeeAnn - “One Way Ticket”, she slays “You Light Up My Life” and her cover of "Crazy" will blow you away. "Probably Wouldn’t Be This Way" is another great one. I'm pretty sure she could sing the phone book and make it remarkable. And sorry, but you can't be a true Kardashian until you have a bad spray tan and more plastic parts than Barbie. :-)
Well, I can remember once that one (or both) of you cracking wise about any yodeling song. I remember thinking "Just wait untill they hear Blue by LeeAnn Rimes or Night Riders Lament by Suzy Boggusss.
I really enjoy watching your reactions because I know there will be no BS you enjoy true music and you call a spade a spade! LeeAnn Rimes is amazing without a doubt!!! We grew up around the same time so we had the pleasure of hearing great rock music only difference is I enjoyed great country music, but you’re slowly getting introduced to it and recognize the OG’s… Thanks for the fun and if I had the extra dough plus the knowledge I’d send a bribe but your bribers are doing great!! Your wife has excellent taste in music this song was amazing for her age loved it. Your show is a refreshing make my day hit in my book. If you like OOG try Eddy Arnold.
She also does an incredible cover of The Rose, You Light Up My Life, and Bridge Over Troubled Water. I think you would like all of these. Cheers from Canada! :)
Great reaction and yep, she has an amazing voice. Keith , you saw correct. The outdoor part of the video was filmed at Barton Springs in Austin Texas. That swimming area, the 'municipal pool' has some concrete, the 'free' side doesn't. It's pretty neat.
She does a great accapella version of Amazing Grace. She was very young when she did it. It is done in an empty church with just her beautiful voice. Check it out
I love watching your reactions. Can I put a request in for Lukas Nelson (Willie Nelson’s son) at his dads 90th bday celebration Angel flying to close to the ground (just him and a guitar) Keith you will totally enjoy it! His guitar skills are TOP NOTCH! I like Willie but Lukas makes me just get goosebumps and makes me cry.
Her studio version of Unchained Melody (or the live version too) is amazing! I would recommend y'all check that one out next. Great video as always! - Everett
I love that yodel aspect. Hank Williams Sr did it a lot in his songs too. It annoys me that I haven't really noticed it being present in country music in the past 20 years. I think if anyone today can properly incorporate it in their songs, I think they would become a big success. Because I think most people love it, and it's not really present anymore, so you'd stick out like a diamond in the dirt.
I like it used sparingly like she did in this performance. Another thing that drives me wild is a good Irish trill, which is similar to a yodel. - Keith
When I first heard this, I thought Patsy Cline was the person singing it. In my opinion, LeAnn is, to this day, the one person who has ever come close to Patsy Cline's vocals.

I'd say she was indeed "worthy." - Keith
The writer was Bill Mack, a local DJ on WBAP radio in the DFW metropolitan area.
Patsy Cline did record this song with very similar vocals.
Not according to Bill Mack, who actually wrote the song, he has debunked that numerous times, including in his book.
