It was originally written and recorded in 1958 and covered several times…LeAnn’s music idol Patsy Cline died in an accident before she was able to cover it…LeAnn was 13 when she recorded “Blue” and won Grammy for it at 14 for “Best New Artist” [the youngest]…as well as “Best Performance by Female Country Artist”.
She's not the youngest Grammy winner anymore. However, she still maintains the youngest SOLO artist to ever win a grammy. The Peasell Sisters were younger when they won for group/band country performance.
LeAnn Rimes was 13 years old when she did Blue. That was her first hit and for OBVIOUS Reasons!! Amazing how gorgeous her voice was at such a young age
Powerful to the max. And 13 when she began!! Yodel ! Ya know its her every time. Dan4/09/22. Ps. And done with such eaze!! Pss. Just cked. She was just 13 when she recorded this! Unreal! Such a great chann. Keep it up.
I clearly remember hearing this song on the radio when it first came out. I believe she was 13 at the time. When I first heard it I thought it was Patsy Cline. Another fairly early one you should listen to is a song she sang with classic artist Eddie Arnold called Cattle Call. Eddie was also known for his yodel.
The man that wrote this had written it for Patsy Cline. He actually had waited and looked for someone that could sing like Patsy would. He heard LeAnn singing "THE NATIONAL ANTHEM" at a ballgame. When he heard her, he knew that he had found who he had been waiting for. LeAnn was 13 when she recorded it and at 14 she won 3 Grammy's for it. I would say that she was worth waiting for, wouldn't you?
This was Leann's first hit, when she was a young teen. Lovely! She did (much later) a duet with Eddie Arnold called "Cattle Call". That is an excellent collaboration to check out!
This woman's voice is utterly amazing she's been compared to Patsy Clines voice I could listen to her all day 💕🌹💕🌹 she was 14 I think when she did this song...love her , awesome reaction , much love and respect 💕💕🌹💞😘🥰 should check her out singing Cowboys Sweetheart OMG💕
I think leann rimes was like 15 when this came out. Wow talk about dating a person I was either graduating high-school or married when it came out. They compared to Patsy Cline
Recorded at 13. Grammy at 14. She was accused of infidelity after she was married and the double standard being what it is (has it ever seriously affected a male?) it sidelined her career. The closest analog I can think of for her early career is Tanya Tucker.
My friend, short and sweet, you just listened to one of the greatest Country songs ever sung. It was intended for Patsy Cline to sing it but tragedy struck and 14 year old LeAnn Rimes was chosen to sing it instead. The arrangement of the song, the fabulous melody combined with LeAnn's voice created a MASTERPIECE which will never be forgotten. Three Country singers have been recognized for their great ability to yodel: Patsy Cline, LeAnn Rimes and Reba McEntire. Btw, LeAnn idolized Patsy Cline and she has often been asked to do tributes to her and she really pulls at your heart strings because of the similarity of their voices. Listen to her sing "the" most favorite Country song of all time made famous by Patsy Cline, 'Crazy'.
Leann was 13 when she recorded blue, it was intended for Patsy Cline but was left on her desk following her death, an agent spotted Leann and thought how similar in style to Patsy she was so gave her BLUE (also title of her first album) to record, it was a smash and led to a long career for Leann including an album covering mostly Patsy Cline songs, recently she has won the masked singer as well as 2 big film songs in can't fight the moonlight from Coyote ugly, and how do i live from con air. (Although it wasnt her version in the film it was Trisha Yearwood)
In th 90's I was in the Music Industry, she sang this before her 13th birthday and actually wasn't released until she was 14 in which she won a Grammy an original. Check out her Official Video Cover, "The Story". She doesn't get the credit she deserves, a child prodigy, God Bless!
Great reaction Sir. I remember when this came out. Although beautiful, it was played so often on the radio I got really tired of it. I am glad it didn't ruin my desire to hear more from her. She is truly an awesome singer. Amazing such talent at so young an age. God Bless.
Folks, let me fill in the history on the song BLUE. It was written by a DJ named Bill Mack for Patsy Cline and she was not able to record it before her death. Bill held the song for Years and years until he heard Leann sing the national anthem at a ball game. Bill sent a demo to her father to see if Leann would be interested in the song. She fell in love with it and recorded it twice actually over a two-year period. Once at 11 years and again at 13 years old. The first recording which is the one you're listening to here was recorded when she was 11years old. After she recorded It they shelfed it for two years while negotiating with two different record labels. One wanted to shelf it and the company Curb wanted to release it, so Leann went with Curb records and recorded the song again at 13 years old just before the official release. Funny thing is the one released was the original recording at 11yrs old. Leann explained the mix up was a mistake and the recording at 13 yrs should have been the one released. There was one word that was incorrect on the 11yr recording that was corrected on the later recording. The word was " weak " as in the line "weak words you whisper". The correct word as written according to Leann was "Sweet" which was updated in the later recording. Bottom line is Leann won a Grammy at 14 for the hit song she recorded at age 11. She is a massive powerful pitch perfect voice. A real talent!
You should listen to Blue Moon of Kentucky and I Want to Be a Cowboys Sweetheart. She has one of THE BEST yodals, and cowboy sweetheart has bars of just straight up yodaling, and it's AMAZING!!!
I have a song suggestion...sorry, didn't know where to comment. I'm a computer novice. I think you would love the song, "The Greatest" by Kenny Rogers. So, so sweet and a great message as a Kenny song usually has.
Another great female country artist is Trisha Yearwood, she is actually the wife of Garth Brooks. She has put out some amazing songs like "She's In Love With The Boy," "Walkaway Joe," and "XXX's and OOO's." She also has a duet with her husband called "Where Your Road Leads"
it was never recorded until LeAnn but it was written for patsy cline so if you have listened to any of patsys songs then you could easily mistake leann for patsy
I really like that you're getting off the beaten road as far as country music reactions go. You should listen to Jerry Jeff Walker and Robert Earl Keen. Both are Texas Legends
People often compare Rimes to Cline, but I wonder when they last had their ears cleaned. Cline has her own distinctive beautiful voice, and so does Rimes in her own great way, but they are completely utterly different.
Amazing....Brooks n Dunn Neon Moon, The Judds Why Not Me, Brooks n Dunn Believe, Vince Gill Go Rest High On That Mountain (just noticed u done that one) are a few more that are just amazing
I think she was 13 at the time of this video. It was her first song. She was nominated for a music award ( can't remember which one) but she didn't attend..... it was a school night.
it was never covered before LeAnn recorded it at 13. and yes it was written with Pasty Cline in mind But Pasty died before it could be given to her. So he waited as others said, until he heard heard her. Her father did not want her to record it. BTW she was 12 when it was given to her. She had been singing in competitions and venues since she was 5.
The story I heard was the song was written for Patsy Cline to record but she passed before she got to record the song. The song writer heard LeAnn Rimes sing the National Anthem at a baseball game and the rest is history.
story I read is that a producer suggested this song to Leann's dad for her to sing. For whatever reason, he threw it in the waste basket, she saw it, pulled it out and looked at it, said she wanted to do it. Funny the way life turns some times on just every day actions
This was her first hit. I believe she was 14 years old. I remember that her voice was compared to Patsy Cline at the time. UPDATED: Looking at other comments it seems like I am wrong. I guess 13 years old. 😀
Your reaction is just like everyone else's when this first came out. Such a beautiful, beautiful voice. As others have mentioned, she is the only one that can be classed with Patsy Cline. When first hearing this it took me to my knees. She found so much success and fame at such an early age that unfortunately took its toll in her personal life.
LeeAnn had one of best voices in American music. Since you're dipping into the teenage singing prodigies pool, please consider reacting to Angelina Jordan--now 16 yo, but been singing in public since she was 6 yo. Won Norway's Got Talent when she was 7 yo (!)
I can literally remember the first time I heard this. I’m pretty sure she was only 13 years old at the time. I remember there was some controversy over the maturity level of one or two of the songs she sang back then. I couldn’t believe that voice came from such a young girl. The same thing I thought when I first heard Tanya Tucker. Jewel is also a good yodeler. This link will take you to a video of her yodeling. She also briefly tells a couple of things about her unique childhood. ruclips.net/video/yWzeTfPHaCM/видео.html
It's not hard to imagine Patsy singing this. She would have torn it up. I'm certainly not saying that LeAnn didn't do the same thing...
She's not the youngest Grammy winner anymore. However, she still maintains the youngest SOLO artist to ever win a grammy. The Peasell Sisters were younger when they won for group/band country performance.
it was written (for patsy) and patsy never was able to record it, for an obvious reason
Keep it up.

I remember this well. Everyone was amazed by her voice at only 13 years old
Leann was 13 when she recorded 'Blue'.

She does a lot of yodeling in this song
Agree, that duet was wonderful! ruclips.net/video/iK2A0mca5dc/видео.html
Yes! “Cattle Call” is amazing!
Have you listened to Linda Ronstadt? She has many beautiful songs. Check out Blue Bayou.
LeAnn was only 13years old when she recorded this. Check out her "One way ticket" , "How do I live" , "Big deal", "I need you", "Nothing about love"
“How Do I Live” is stunning. I remember when she first covered “Blue.” Truly incredible. She was 13. Many thought her voice was “cracking.”
Yeah ... and their parents met at a family reunion .....
She has a voice like an angel. So talented at such a young age. She also did a cover of Patsy Cline's "I Fall To Pieces."
She also did a complete album of Patsy.
LeAnn and Jewel…both yodel well…beautiful voices, long careers…and the two most recent winners on “The Masked Singer” in American.
Ohhhh I love LeAnn Rimes. Remember when this came out. We had CMT at that point. And I instantly fell in love with this song
Do you remember
Cherokee Highway …. Western Flyer
"How Do I Live" is a favorite of mine, by her.
Check out her doing "Amazing Grace". It is done a cappella. She is standing in a church. She was young in this one also. It is amazing.
Yes, she was just 13 years old when she sang this song. Check out another 13 year old Tanya Tucker with her song Delta Dawn.
That yodel LeAnn does throws everyone off, I love it!
you should check out Tanya Tucker she was also 13 when she started too
I think leann rimes was like 15 when this came out. Wow talk about dating a person I was either graduating high-school or married when it came out. They compared to Patsy Cline
13
Yeah she was either 13 or 14 then, just amazing young lady. Great reaction!
LeAnn is now 40 years old. I just went to her concert on Friday at Palo and she sounds just as amazing live! She sang this song and it was crazy good!
Recorded at 13.
Grammy at 14.
She was accused of infidelity after she was married and the double standard being what it is (has it ever seriously affected a male?) it sidelined her career.
The closest analog I can think of for her early career is Tanya Tucker.

One of the great country voices. Check out her song How Do I Live

My favorites of hers are Nothin’ Better To Do, How Do I Live, Something’s Gotta Give, and Probably Wouldn’t Be This way! Love your reactions!! 😊
Taylorfamily can I ask......Are you from Hull by any chance?
Great reaction Sir. I remember when this came out. Although beautiful, it was played so often on the radio I got really tired of it. I am glad it didn't ruin my desire to hear more from her. She is truly an awesome singer. Amazing such talent at so young an age. God Bless.
LeAnn Rimes and Brenda Lee were both thirteen when they both started singing and recording
The Light in Your Eyes is another one of her early hits and one of my favourites
You need to react to LeAnns tribute to Patsy Cline at the ACA’s 2013 I believe that was the yr. Unbelievable!!!

Check out How Do I Live by Leann. Very Smooth.
She was 13. I first saw this when lovely Reba introduced her on the cam awards back in the day
You should listen to Blue Moon of Kentucky and I Want to Be a Cowboys Sweetheart. She has one of THE BEST yodals, and cowboy sweetheart has bars of just straight up yodaling, and it's AMAZING!!!
She was on The Masked Singer, but I won't tell you which character she was!!
She brought a retired yodeling country crooner Eddy Arnold out of retirement to record his song Cattle Call.
Written by the legendary Harlan Howard. This was written for Patsy Cline but she passed before she could record it
Please react to Easton Corbin, I Can't Love You Back
She absolutely channel's Patsy Cline in the song. She was 13 years old when she recorded this!
A very talented singer.
I have a song suggestion...sorry, didn't know where to comment. I'm a computer novice. I think you would love the song, "The Greatest" by Kenny Rogers. So, so sweet and a great message as a Kenny song usually has.
Age, 14 ...talent, unreal...even to this day. Check out her performances as "The Sun" on masked singer...(yes she won) ...when judges cry lol.

Jewel can yodel too. Check it out. And Austin Brown of Home Free yodels in their cover of Thank God I’m a Country Boy! Loved your reaction.
You wanna hear a good yodeling song with Leeann give a listen to "cowboy sweetheart" it's great 👍 👌 😉
I really like that you're getting off the beaten road as far as country music reactions go. You should listen to Jerry Jeff Walker and Robert Earl Keen. Both are Texas Legends
If you like yodeling react to Home Free "Thank God I Am A Country Boy" Austin does great in it.

Can you react to ORSON WILDS - DEC 19
She was 13 when she recorded this song. It is a cover. She is a Patsy Cline incarnate
it was never covered before LeAnn recorded it at 13. and yes it was written with Pasty Cline in mind But Pasty died before it could be given to her. im sure you're gonna amaze
The story I heard was the song was written for Patsy Cline to record but she passed before she got to record the song. The song writer heard LeAnn Rimes sing the National Anthem at a baseball game and the rest is history.
Rimes originally recorded this song at age 11. She re-recorded the song (this video version) at age 13. What a voice!
It was wrote for Patsy Cline but she didn't get to sing it they save it and let Leanne sing it at 13 that's how young she was
You should check out her rendition of Cattle Call.
You should check out Brenda Lee who was 10 or 11 years old when she had her 1st hits. A hugh voice for someone ar 4'8" tall.
She was 13yrs old making this song.
She was 13 when she recorded thus song. Still a Beautiful lady with a Beautiful voice
story I read is that a producer suggested this song to Leann's dad for her to sing. For whatever reason, he threw it in the waste basket, she saw it, pulled it out and looked at it, said she wanted to do it. Funny the way life turns some times on just every day actions
Please listen to Cattle Call by the late great Eddie Arnold. also he does, Make The World Go Away.

LeAnne recorded this when she was only 13 years old
This was her first hit. I believe she was 14 years old. I remember that her voice was compared to Patsy Cline at the time.
UPDATED: Looking at other comments it seems like I am wrong. I guess 13 years old. 😀
I believe she was 14 when she recorded this song.
I know u all r right about her age but i also swear she was really little and singing on Star Search is that right?
I believe she was about 14 years old when she did this.
I love Leann's Nothing Better to Do. She also does an amazing cover of The Rose, You Light Up My Life, and Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Patsy Cline is the original singer in the 50”s or 60”s
I was actually friends with the man that wrote this song. His name was Bill Mack. He would hang with us at a Dallas C&W club called Belle Starr.
I believe she was 14 years old when she did this song.
Blue is the song that made her famous and she was only 13
Please pray for Linda B and Barbara M Amen
I think she was in her early teens when she sang this song. This was a big hit by Patsy Cline.
If ya love that yodel, listen to Cowboy Sweetheart... even better yodeling
This is true country music, I love it.
She was only 13 when she sang this one it started her career
She was on the talent show star search. She was 13 years old when she had a hit with Blue!
LeeAnn had one of best voices in American music. Since you're dipping into the teenage singing prodigies pool, please consider reacting to Angelina Jordan--now 16 yo, but been singing in public since she was 6 yo. Won Norway's Got Talent when she was 7 yo (!)
She was 15 when she recorded this song.
This is an amazing cover! Outstanding job!
I Love Leann, real country.

I can literally remember the first time I heard this. I’m pretty sure she was only 13 years old at the time. This is her tribute to Patsy Cline. I think her cover of Unchained Melody is my all-time favorite of hers.
Mine too. I wish more people would listen to it.
Think she was about 16
She was 14 at this time. Yeah. 😛
