Dark Souls 2 Burnt Ivory King Boss Battle.
Fun story: I was fighting this boss on NG+ difficulty, intending it to be my final fight before being finished with DS2. I was even using his own weapon, the Ivory King Ultra Greatsword, against him. Just as his HP was down to 25%, I got the warning that the sword was at risk of breaking. But, it held out. On the very final blow that defeated him, the sword broke... the Burnt Ivory King and the Ivory King Ultra Greatsword destroyed at the same moment, and the perfect way to end my time in DS2. I'll leave the sword forever broken in my inventory to remember the moment.

Yes. This to me, was the second most emotional moment, after first fighting Gwyn, in all of Dark Souls. The Ivory King DLC is in my opinion the best Dark Souls experience.

Then how about the Burnt Ivory King? He literally came out of hell with a helm that hasn't have a single visible opening.
*Edit*: Looking at his concept art, the helm that the Burnt Ivory King used is also a frogmouth helm but the opening slit is hidden by the large crown like protrusion on the top. So he can breathe at least a little, but how can he see?
So,some people says that Artorias is the best “hero”. But it seems they forgot Our lovely king that have 3 big ass magical tiguers as pets and ones of the manus daughters as a wife. And sacrifice himself for the good of others.
I think the story of the Ivory King, Alsanna and the Loyce knights is definitely in the top saddest pieces of Souls lore.

-the Drang Knights
-Karla being a fragment of the Abyss
-Zullie and Alva being mentioned
-the presence of the armor of a Loyce knight in the Ringed City (implying quite interestingly that maybe the Ivory King before sacrificing himself organized an expedition to the city in order to uncover the secrets of the Dark Soul and perhaps find a way to defeat the Old Chaos)
-The ruins of Earthen Peak being part of the Dreg Heap

So let me see if I got this right: Alsanna is a part of Manus, the Lord of the Abyss that corrupted Artorias, and all around bad dude, and a kind and noble king in another realm saw her as someone needing protection even though he was aware of her true intentions.

I love how this starts out as a small battlefield, with sorceries and pyromancies all being thrown out then when the gates get sealed it turns into a 1v1 with the leaders dueling each other.
This is one of the most creative and coolest boss fight design I've ever seen...

Dark Souls 2 was great. The fact that non-DLC areas were on average worse than in other Souls games doesn't change that. "Worst Dark Souls" is still "damn good game".
Not Applicable lazy level design, and most of the bosses are gank bosses. Most of the games best bosses are from DLC too so that tells you something. It's not a bad game but a lot of the game is just kinda lazy

This is the most awesome boss fight in the entire soulsborne series to me. The presentation, the lore, the atmosphere, the unique circumstances with non-summoned NPC’s giving you a hand...and then the absolute baller way the king steps out of the mirror to attack you.
And that’s all before the boss fight officially begins.

2:30 is a good chance for one of the knights to seal the remaining door but they just stand around and do nothing. Amazing
They close the portal after a especific number of the Knight dies, some portals stay opens in the 2nd phase if you clean the arena too soon
I don't care what anybody says. Plunging into the chaos flames with the Eleum Loyce knights is the hypest shit in the Dark Souls trilogy.
I love revisiting this boss fight. Planning on buying DS2 on PC as my PS3 doesn't work anymore, just so I can go back to this fight and beat him again.
For those who never played Dark Souls 2 (keep in mind what I'm about to say is what I remember from 4 or so years ago), this is an old kingdom, absolutely covered Frost and Ice. The Ivory King was a proud, humble and merciful Knight who became it's King. "The Greatest Knight" was his title. He was, for all intents and purposes to be, the "White Knight become King", although he did do some pretty awful things, in general he is by far the most well-liked King in DS2.
At one point, he took in Alsanna (the person born from Dark at the end), and protected her. He knew what she was, but he always helped those in need. During this period of time, he was weakened (I'm not sure if it was Alsanna or the Old Chaos) but he decided it was time to finally do what he had been aspiring to do for nearly his entire life: subdue the Old Chaos, the force that wrought corruption and devastation to the Kingdom. Given by context, I think he knew he was on a timer, and the longer he stalled, the lower the chance of success.
He left with the Eleum Loyce Knights, others who were inspired by his actions and took up arms in White/Silvery armor, to lend a helping hand to those in need. He took them with him into the Old Chaos and never returned. Alsanna realized he had not only lost, but been consumed by the Chaos itself. The Eleum Loyce Knights that were not lost or maybe stayed behind for the Kingdom. lost hope and returned to their homes, heads hanging low, praying and hoping they will have the opportunity to one day end the Old Chaos, that which took "the great Knight of all the Lands" down, and upheld the standards of Chivalry.
When you come along, Alsanna explains this to you, and if you try to fight him immediately, you will find only a single Eleum Loyce Knight has stayed behind all these years, in the chamber room, standing at the ready to plunge at a moments notice. You then re-explore the entire Kingdom hoping to run into/find the remaining knights, each sitting in a chair in a secluded area, heads low, praying. When you open the door, they look up, take arms, and disappear. In the room, another Knight rejoins the wait.
When you have all the knights, you charge in head first, eventually leading to each Knight giving their life to permanently freeze gates of the Old Chaos, eventually leading you and hopefully 1 remaining Knight to fight their King and put an end to this.
It's not just the lore, but the ideology that he spurred such faith that Knights plunged head first into Chaos and Corruption for the sake of the world, and when they fell, the remaining Knights rally with you to put down their Old Beloved King, to finish what he started, all charging in knowing they're all going to die. It's not a matter of "if", but rather "how much can I accomplish before it overtakes me".
Keep in mind, in the Dark Souls Universe, Chaos and Corruption isn't what a lot of modern entertainment is. It's more akin to a Phenomena than a disease or state of mind.
Nobody can resist it, some just deal with it better than others. Just like how a bird can fly and a fish can swim, they can both not touch the ground, but gravity is constantly applying pressure, and they all have to come down eventually. You can't "fight" gravity, you can't "resist" gravity, it just *is*. You don't "fight" Chaos or Corruption, you fight the forces it spawns forth. In this same way, the Ivory King tried to fight the forces of Chaos and Corruption, and was Corrupted himself.
It was the only fight in the Souls Borne series that compares to Radahn, and is absolutely amazing. It also broke my heart ;(
One of the best boss fights in my opinion, DS2's DLC for me has some of the best level/Boss designs of the series
still that pre-boss phase with the 3 portals was so bloody boring... kinda ruined the actual bossfight for me.

Good boss fights, but the pre-boss area is tedious, this is dark souls 2 in a nutshell.
They ruined cool boss fights using like tons of enemies before them and you have to kill them 10 times until they stop respawn.

That hellgate in ivory kings arena had to have inspired the design of the gate of divinity in Enir Ilim at the end of the elden ring dlc
There’s def stuff from DS2 that’s in Elden Ring. ER feels so much more like DS2 than the other games. I wouldn’t be shocked also if the burnt ivory king fight inspired the Radahn fight in the base game, with being able to summon others to help you during the fight.

I love DS2. It has the most rustic look and feel to it. It has its flaws but is still very enjoyable. I actually in many ways like it more than DS1
I know what you mean by rustic. Even some of the most dismal areas in DS2 still have a certain colorful aesthetic to them and there's a warmth to the game world that isn't present in the other games. This is most obviously seen in Majula, easily the most beautiful hub in Souls history.
Just beat him like 15 mins ago at 3am. All knights, plus npc and a player summon = One of the most intense fights in the entire game.
This fight during a Remaster is going to look so damn cool. This is in my opinion one of the best all round Boss Fights in Soulsbourne history, in general I think this DLC is incredible, has a couple bullshit parts for sure and I think everyone can guess which but it's all worth it in the end for this climax.
Maybe he isn't the most badass boss fight in the series but he has one of the most badass backstory and entrance for sure .

Stronger beings got taller through their soul. Also Lords (the race, not the actual Lord Soul holders) were taller than normal human, which is why Black Knights/Artorias/Ornstein/Nameless King/etc. were all taller.
As for DS2, idk. Its an age/world of man, and I think most of the human enemies (Alonne, Vendrick, Ivory, etc.) are naturally larger due to them being stronger? Im not sure how it would work for human enemies.
One thing I wish the ost played a bit earlier as he is walking through the flames and giving him more moves.

Coolest boss room entrance, and one of the coolest backdrops in the series in my opinion.

it's interesting that he's the only DLC king out of 3 that we get to fight and still wears his crown.
This was an epic moment in the series. I just don't get why player and enemy animations in this game generally (not all the time, but most) look clunkier and worse than in Dark Souls 1? Seriously, it's like they're all submerged in lead and maple syrup.

I read when they decide to made ds 2 one of the important things the team want to improve was the graphics.
They also want to use new powerful engine for the game but because of some issues with engine and the whole project they decided to go with this shit graphics.

I think there's something wrong with the soundtrack titles on the RUclips Topic channels. According to the official soundtrack, Burnt Ivory King has a massively epic theme song. But it's not present in his fight, and gets incorrectly labeled as Aava's boss theme song on the Yuka Kitamura Topic channel.
