I am extremely grateful for this video! We’re a pretty unique family (my partner and I are lesbians, multiply disabled, Jewish, and that’s just the surface) and we know we’d be a great how for certain kids that might struggle to find the right fit (trans kids, otherwise LGBTQ+ kids, neurodivergent kids, Jewish and non-Christian kids) but like figuring out the best ways to find that match have me a little ???? ESPECIALLY because we would love to support kids in states like the Dakotas (close to us) who may be able to get more affirming care here!
TLDR: this was exactly what my partner and I needed !

It's free here in California. I'm an ISFC foster parent. Legal guardianship one child and hopefully adopt this little boy. ❤

Hi Katie, this question isn't exactly relevant to this video, but one of my biggest concerns about adopting an older kid is if they'll have to change schools after moving in with me. I live in a pretty big state and the kids waiting to be adopted come from all over, so chances are their current school might be too far for me to drive them. Which sucks, because staying in the same school is, most of the time, good for the kids.

From my understanding if you adopt out of state you'll be opting out of state benefits such as free medical or free state university tuition. How true is this? I'm not at this step of my life but something I've seen and wondered about

A lot depends on what state you are in! Our state doesn’t even offer free tuition (only a handful do). I wish I could give you a blanket answer but that is a great question for your future adoption agency!

Can you start taking classes while I'm waiting for my own house (1-2) years & getting my ducks in a row? 🤔 Or do I have to wait until I'm 100% ready?

As long as where your living follows your states process and passes you will be good 👍 Mainly, whoever is living in and has access inside the place would be required to pass background checks if over the age of 16. Square feet in the rooms need to pass (most common) 40 sq ft for each child. Bottom line is, you can foster while in an apt.

I really appreciate all your videos, they are so informative. Do you have experience for non-us citizens adopting a U.S. citizen child from foster care. We are desperately willing to grow our family and don’t know if we can adopt a child. We are located in NC and 100% legal residents of US. Thanks.

If you are green card holders you should be able to do foster care and/or adopt! I would call your local department of children’s services and at least one private agency to explain your situation and see what they say just to double check, but it shouldn’t be a problem!

Oh that’s interesting! I have worked with a couple of people from Georgia. One family decided to pursue foster care for now and the other is planning to adopt through the state. I can probably find something for you! You can book a consultation here if you are interested:) adoptinformed.com

I guess I don't understand How you find these agencies? Do you have to ask your county foster agency for ones they work with or can you just look online at public agencies. The one's ive searched online their fees are in the $15,000+ range. I live in ohio.

    • @adoptinformed

@@Solinnea25 a great place to start is the Adopt US Kids State information page. They typically will have a link to all licensed agencies in the state (for infant adoption, international, or foster care adoption). $15,000 sounds very high to me for Ohio! In my consultations, I research good agency options on your behalf and get you all of the important contact info as well if you are ever interested! I am from Ohio and have worked with quite a few other Ohio families.
