Hey Friends! We hope this video brings you some encouragement today as you face difficulties in life, whether disability related or not. Leave us a comment and say hi! And, if you have any questions for us, leave those too. Have a great day, and thank you for your support! 😊💗
Thank you both for this video! Having disabilities since 9yrs old has seriously made me the queen of negativity, pitty parties etc. I work hard DAILY and by my relationship w/God!
Hi Jennifer! Yes! It’s a choice I make every morning and have learned, over time, to put all of the negativity and fear on God and trust that I’ll be taken care of. I really hope you’re having a good day! Take care and stay strong!
I'll share your vids with my 28 year old Grandson John that had a horrific motorcycle accident in July '20. John learned to walk again, with rods in his back, pelvis, leg and arm, plus had 2 strokes, collapsed lung and heart repair. My son n law Bruce has had to take care of John and my daughter Angela that had double mastectomy from cancer in March '20. Thank-you for sharing your life. I love you in Christ. Hugs
Hi Linda! Thank you for sharing our videos and giving us a glimpse into your life as well! We're very sorry to hear about your grandson and your daughter. Praying for you all! Take care and have a wonderful day!
You two bring so much information, joy, love, etc. God Bless you both! I find that when I get in my pity party time, I almost have to force myself to either write in a gratitude journal or just think about all that I am grateful for. I’ll be honest, many times I just don’t want to do either one and I don’t. I am very guilty of isolating myself. One day at a time. 🤗
Thank you guys, I lately have been in a huge petty party is heartbreaking to see your beloved one struggling and also as a partner fear kicks in ❤️lovely video! Love how integrated you are to eachother.
Thank you Rosa! These difficult times are only made worse when negative thoughts are allowed to take a hold. It has taken Jen and myself a long time in realizing this and putting positive thinking into practice. I am so so lucky to have my Angel when life gets hard! Stay strong! -Tony
Totally relating to the isolating yourself thing! Really struggling with how people see me now. And the stress of going to places like bars and restaurants, thinking 'Oh my god everyone is gonna see me struggling to walk' or 'everyone is gonna talk about me' or 'no one is gonna find me remotely attractive' or 'why did my friends have to chose a bar That requires walking a mile to get to it!'
Once I wrapped my head around the thought of even using a wheelchair when I left the house, I found that it actually gave me a new sense of freedom. Now there were still some things that needed to be worked out logistically, but what I finally was able to let go of was the initial hesitation an invitation to go out would give me, the stress and worry about the "what did I get myself into?" thoughts that would run on a repeating loop on the way to the place, the constant looking around at my surroundings because I was afraid I was going to stumble and fall, but it was ultimately the feeling of having to remain isolated while everyone out in the world was living their lives. Did a wheelchair solve all of my problems?... absolutely not, but what it did give me back was time, all of the time wasted worrying on stuff that held me back so that I could eventually do a lot of really cool stuff
Thank you so much ! I'm a young disabled wheelchair mom, my kids are 6 yrs to 7 months. And its hard to just go and do what others parents do. Like going for walks or out in the yard. It just takes so much more effort.. by the time I'm half way through I'm exhausted, mentally and physically. Ps. I have muscular Dystrophy too. I have charcot Marie tooth 1a. I created my channel to show we are just the same as able beings, and just our journey as our family ❤
Hi Destiny! Thanks for stopping by our channel! I completely understand where you’re at and what you’re going through. The effort it takes, physically and mentally, is most of the time, draining. Alex, our youngest, is almost two and sooooo active! It breaks my heart that I can’t play with him the way I think he would want me to... like running around, picking him up, playing with him on the floor, and carrying him in my arms. I’m trying to be careful not to be tough on myself and get sucked into that black hole... The thing that keeps me rooted are the looks he gives me when we hang out, mostly when I put him to sleep. My disability doesn’t register with him like I imagine it would. Alex is so accepting and sees past all of my hang ups. He’s the mirror I’ve always needed to see myself through, to see the me separate from my disability. Alex, Jen, and our kids are the drive behind me that pushes me through all of my difficult times. I couldn’t begin to imagine a world where I had to do life without them. I will definitely check out your channel! I wish you success! Stay strong!
My husband has had FSHD for many years and he has the best attitude!!! We have been married 45 years. He has never been in pain until the last couple of years. But now he is in extreme pain and it is really getting hard. It is so hard to watch him suffer😓
Patti, wow and congratulations for making 45 years married! I have had bouts of pain but nothing that didn’t smooth itself out over time. We hope that your husband find relief from his pain soon! Stay strong! -Tony
He has been seen at Gerogetown Clinic for about 15 years. But now that he needs to be seen for this, it is almost impossible to get through to anyone. My sister in-law is trying to help us get in touch with the MDA clinic at Johns Hopkins but we have not had much success so far. Praying to get him in touch with a person their soon. Thanks for your encouragement.
I love the advice sbout fpcussing on problem solving!! My best hack: so I live on my own and I worry a lot about falling over because it's hard to get back up. One time I fell, and was looking around for ways to get back up. I remembered I had a plug in self inflating guest bed. So I shuffled to the cupboard, got it out, lay on it and plugged it in. It worked!! It inflated to full height with me on it! Enabling me to sit up and stand up. We don't give ourselves enough credit for the problems we solve everyday!!!
Hi Elvee! Thanks for checking out our video! I agree with you about having to be in constant problem solver mode! Now, I have lost count of how many times I have fallen in the past that the when, where's, and why's have all blurred together. In the beginning, after a fall I could manage to stand as long as I could get my feet under me. After some progression of the FSH, when I fell I had to pull myself up and could only do so if something was around for me to shift my weight onto and then get my feet under me. Regarding falls, I'm sure that most of us FSHer's have had our inner MacGuyver kick in so that we can do what we need to do to get back upright. Now I don't recommend this and have only done this once out of desperation, but one time I had fallen and resorted to using an exercise ball to roll onto in order to transfer to a couch where I could stand from. The way I had seen it going in my head looked simple, but... as I fumbled through the process, it became a little scary since I could have rolled off either side which is why I don't recommend using one of these, because I think I got lucky! That's awesome that your guest bed worked to help you up... very cool! I have often wished there was a better way for we FSHer's to get up from a fall that didn't require a huge lift, that was portable and lightweight, and that could be operated by one person. One day there will be! Stay safe!

Hi Deborah! I was diagnosed when I turned 30 but my symptoms started really showing themselves around 22-23 years of age. My pity party lasted for months and like you, realized that it wasn't doing me or anyone around me any good. Toward the last part of this past year, I had a really sharp downturn in my progression and all of a sudden had to re-evaluated a lot of what I had gotten used to doing and trying to find a new way of doing them. Frustration doesn't begin to explain the tip of that emotional iceberg... I'm really learning how to put a lot of this on God and stop being so hard on my self for my physical shortcomings. Hi Jen & Tony, Great Topic ! Jen, My mindset is more like Tony's but it wasn't always that way. A few things you mentioned reminded me of my own life journey years ago. Here are a few perspectives that I've come to adopt that have lowered my stress immensely. I am often complimented on my patience related to events in life and behavior of others. Think about this Jen: Have you ever noticed a person who seems to have everything and is never happy and another person who seems to have very little yet loves life? Have you ever wondered what motivates their behavior? I believe it's appreciation for what you do or don't have. Or even better, being content in where you are in life. Don't misunderstand me. I don't mean you shouldn't have life goals. I'm talking about being happy and content at any given point or moment during the journey in your life. The is my view: Life is about Learning and growing as a person. Life is about personally growing inside and doing your best to accept and love others as they are. I try remind myself, especially when things seem to be going less than ideal, that everything that happens in life is a lesson that we can learn from and become a better person from. I have gotten away from viewing things as bad but rather as challenges that I need to face. ...Challenges that I grow from. From that point of view, I am much more relaxed and happier. Anything else I can add, You can probably observe by watching Tony. Disabled people streamline everything. There's no time or energy to waste on anything. Best Wishes !
WaterWhite Tuber I love your attitude! Yes, I have learned so much from Tony’s positive mindset over the years. He is such good medicine for me! 😊 Thank you for watching and keep up the good work and mindset! 🙌🏼 -Jenny
You two are such a beautiful couple. I can see the love when you look at each other. As someone with anxiety I often have a pity party so found this really helpful. Science can give us the what and how but only God can give us the why. Just not always when we want it. 🙏🏻❤️
C a r o l i n e I agree completely, Caroline! Even if He doesn’t reveal it to us, that doesn’t mean there are no answers! 🙏🏻Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. ❤️
They sound awesome 👌 and you both are such an inspiration ❤ xxx I think for me the negatives always creep in sometimes on bad days i feel like a burden to my partner and this has a knock on effect on behaviour, have any of you guys experienced this at all ? Xx lots of love and prayers Maryellen 🙏❤🏴
Mary Doyle Hey Mary! Yes! I know I feel very guilty about burdening Tony with my anxiety and depression issues, when he already has enough on his plate. But he always tells me that it’s not a burden bc he loves me for me. Not just an idealized version of me. I bet your partner feels the same! Hugs to you! 💗💗💗
I loved your video! very interested in the pants puller upper, the struggle is real :). The glove is genius, I've often wished they made a brace that would extend the fingers, it seems like it would give us much more hand mobility. I assume you have the same thing, I can still grip and close them but opening them is impossible. I'd like to be able to wave to someone without looking like I'm shaking my fist at them. :)
Hi Michael! Thanks for watching! Yes, the struggle is very real! I’m trying to modify the pants pulller upper so it can be worked with one hand leaving the other free to brace or steady oneself. I didn’t even think about the glove allowing for a proper wave! Might even solve those awkward moments when going for a hand shake as well! Back to the drawing board! I hope you have an awesome day! -Tony
I think I could go head to head with you on the pity party and negativity queen title. I 16:30 was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020. I’m 65 and have been with my husband for 37 years, 35 of them married. He’s decided he wants out and wants a divorce. I have no idea how to move forward, much less do it with positivity. The way you two work together is awesome
All i can say to you in good faith is let go and let God. I have been single longer than I have been married. I am 68 , divorced, but I am happier now single, then when i was married. I cling to God and he clings to me. Sometimes i have a bad day, but most of the time i snap out of it. I try and stay very busy, LOL
Hi Carolyn! Thank you so much! I have plenty of helpful ideas in my head that I would like to see made real! Hopefully one day! Thanks for stopping by! Hope you're having a great day!

I think for me the negatives always creep in sometimes on bad days i feel like a burden to my partner and this has a knock on effect on behaviour, have any of you guys experienced this at all ? Xx lots of love and prayers Maryellen 🙏❤🏴
Mary Doyle Hey Mary! Yes! I know I feel very guilty about burdening Tony with my anxiety and depression issues, when he already has enough on his plate. But he always tells me that it’s not a burden bc he loves me for me. Not just an idealized version of me. I bet your partner feels the same! Hugs to you! 💗💗💗
@@jennyandtony yes I'm sure your right xx thank you so much my friend xx take care the both of you xx 😘
Gosh you're amazing maybe you can have those inventions created for many they sound great xx
Hi Carolyn! Thank you so much! I have plenty of helpful ideas in my head that I would like to see made real! Hopefully one day! Thanks for stopping by! Hope you're having a great day!
