    o my gosh i finally get to see a real handy man do a job on this. my heating supplies jus came via amazon, i’ve been having a hard couple weeks i can not and may not wait for the maintenance men cause they don’t seem to know much about an electric hot water heater . also, is there a plug? and is the central heating system connected to the electric hot water heater at all, like the radiators are with the gas lit hwh?

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  Год назад

      There could be a plug, or it could be hard wired like the one in my video. Even if there's a plug it would still be on a breaker. Whether it's connected to your heating system I can't say if it is or not as I've never seen the system so I can't say for sure. Thanks for watching Annie & Subscribe to the channel 👍

    What would you check to if elements and breaker is good ? My elements are fine and so I replaced the breaker and I’m still having it flip after a day or two of running?

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  10 месяцев назад

      Sounds like the thermostats to me. I would change both, they don't cost much & there isn't anything else it could be from what you already checked & replaced. Other than a wire shorting out somewhere but that would normally trip the breaker instantly. Thanks for watching Zachery & subscribe to the channel 👍

    what is the metal (strip/lock) you called it on the 30 amp breaker for the hotwater heater?

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  2 года назад

      It's a lock out device to put a lock on the breaker to lock it out while your working on it so someone doesn't turn the power back on. Every water heater breaker has one of those on the breaker at my property. Thanks for watching David 👍

    In a brand new house. Last late winter, the water heater kept tripping the breaker. We had someone come by and change the breaker. It was good until yesterday when it started doing the same thing. I don't know what's going on and I don't have the money to fix it.

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  7 месяцев назад

      It's hard to say without seeing it of course. But it would need to be looked at by someone who knows what they are checking for. They would also need a multimeter to properly check it. Thanks for watching Colleen & subscribe to the channel 👍

    Did you cut the power first before testing with multimeter?

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  10 месяцев назад +1

      When you test for continuity yes the power must be off. But if your testing for power then no you need the power on to see if the piece of equipment your working on is getting power. Thanks for watching Jazzy & subscribe to the channel 👍

      @@ApartmentMaintenance i just subscribed one more question so checking for power is to determine if it's working properly or checking for continuity?

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@jazzysmith2430 Checking for power is to make sure your getting the proper voltage to the water heater which is 240 volts. When checking for continuity you would be checking each thermostat to verify they are working properly & checking the elements. I have another video that shows checking a water heater step by step in my plumbing playlist. If you watch that video you will see how I test everything in detail.

      @ApartmentMaintenance  3 месяца назад

      @@g4orce703 Did you check the elements & thermostats? I have a video in my plumbing playlist showing how to troubleshoot the elements & thermostats step by step with a multimeter. More than likely it's one of those causing the issue. The breaker is just a safety device to shut the power off to whatever it's sending power to when there's something wrong. I know in my video I had a bad breaker, but it's rare that the breaker goes bad. Check out that other video & you may save yourself a good bit of money since those parts are a lot cheaper than a new double pole breaker.

      @ApartmentMaintenance I changed out the thermostat 3 months ago .. water was hot & fine but now the water is bk cold again haha.. so it could be the elements.. Hi our electric water heater is not working, when i plug it to 240v outlet the voltage drops to 120 100v. Is this is the cause of why its not heating? What should i do? Thanks

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  2 года назад

      Yep that's why it's not heating. It sounds like your 240 volt breaker is only allowing power through by 1 leg which is 120 volts. Need to check voltage at the breaker with a multimeter & replace if there's only half the voltage output (120v). If your not comfortable with doing that or don't have the tools needed, I would recommend calling an electrician to inspect & replace breaker if that's what's needed. I reset the button and it worked maybe another day and the same the water hotter than before and then no hot at all . Any idea what it could be?

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  2 года назад

      Sounds like one of the thermostats went bad & it's not shutting the element off at the set temperature & once it gets to 170° or higher it will trip the high limit (red reset button). It's best to replace both thermostats as they are inexpensive & best to do both at the same time. Thanks for watching Don & Subscribe to the channel 👍
