Water Heater T&P Valve Leaking How do I replace a leaking pressure relief valve? In this video I show how easy it is to replace the temperature and pressure relief valve on an electric or gas water heater with step by step instructions. Over time the valve can become corroded and not close all the way causing water to leak out, which was the case with the one I replaced in this video. The T&P v...

Thank you!
Great video. I replaced the water valve like in this video but our dispenser is still leaking very slowly. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!
Mine is less than 3 months old, and i had rust build up.

How do you check the voltage for the bottom thermostat? I replaced both elements and both thermostats, but I'm not reading voltage on the bottom thermostat
You need to have the bottom thermostat set at a higher temperature than the top thermostat for voltage to go to the bottom thermostat & element since the top element always runs first & once it's satisfied then the bottom one turns on. Thanks for watching Ron & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
Brooo!! U just saved me!! I just wish I seen exactly how to put the belt on, u skipped it
Glad the video helped out. I have a video in my appliance repair playlist on replacing the belt on a GE dryer. If you watch that video you can see an angle of replacing the belt. Thanks for watching jstackstv & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
Good However wished you showed how to check the other 3 sensors around the pancake

Of course my help blew the sealing gasket out and lost it. Does anyone no where to find the red gasket that actually seals at pricing point. I’ve been searching , but having no success. Thanks
I've looked around & never found any parts. Had to buy a new one as well. If you come across parts for it let me know. Thanks for watching bayouflats5054 & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
Green drum guides look black to me????
Must just be the video. But they are a darker green color. Thanks for watching Patrick & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
@ApartmentMaintenance yea even the new ones I bought looked almost black but they are sold as green. This dryer has made me nutty. A tab that holds blower motor down snapped and now if I put a entire load in I can hear the blower fan grinding the plastic shroud. I think it is allowing the blower motor to tilt downward ever so slightly with enough weight in the drum. Even before I removed any blower motor bolts. When I attempted to lock tensioner pully behind the motor mount tab the motor itself kinda twisted to left. I'm assuming that tab being broken is allowing blower motor shaft to move enough to grind blower fan when it gets too much weight in drum. I should have piled up some bigger washers where tab broke and tried to lock it down better. GOOD NEWS WITH A SMALL LOAD ITS PERFECT AND SILENT. orginal problem was broken belt but once I got it apart, I did see the blower fan had grinded through small area towards bottom of the plastic exhaust tube enclosure/fan shroud.. sorry for writing a small novel here. Any experience with a issue like this?
When you get to the part of replacing the handle, how do you secure the first handle (the one you didn't install.) I bought a kit, but the directions don't show how you secure the handle. Otherwise it just falls off. There is a threaded hole on the underside where it looks like a bolt or something should screw in to secure it. Thanks for any info. (The kit I bought only has the oval handle.)
Same way you would install the handle I used but you are correct there is a set screw on the bottom side of that oval handle that uses an Allen key wrench to tighten it. I believe the size Allen key is 1/8". Hope that helps. Thanks for watching Lesteangemd & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
@@ApartmentMaintenance Thank you for your reply. I think I found the set screw you are talking about. It was loose in the package instead of with the other two plate screws. I'm so hesitant at trying these things, but your videos provide good instruction and encouragement.
Hey Guys I’m in New York city I need training what’s the name of the trade school for this type of profession
There really isn't a trade school for Maintenance. Some guys either have a background in one of the fields such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, carpentry etc....The most common route is to start out as a grounds guy or porter. It's basically the same title but different companies call it different things. Your not cutting grass or anything like that but you start out doing small work orders & getting apartments ready for new move in's. You learn from your supervisor and other techs. All the management companies will pay for a person to get their EPA Certification so you can handle refrigerant in air conditioning, & they will pay for the person to get their CPO which stands for Certified Pool Operator & then you can take care of the swimming pool. The national apartment association also has a course that you take & if you pass the test you get your CAM-T. Which is a Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician. There's plenty of companies hiring, just search indeed for "apartment maintenance" & read the ads until you find one you're comfortable with & submit your resume. The industry is short staffed so everyone is looking for Maintenance. Hope all that information helps out. Thanks for watching & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
@@ApartmentMaintenance thank you so much. This advice is solid.
Been eyeing these for awhile, how are you liking them?
Yes! I tried getting them when they first came out but they were on backorder for a few months. But I finally got a pair & they rock.
Once I get settled & fully unpacked. I will be doing a give away on the channel for hitting 10k subscribers. I have a few of the items already, but I need to pick up a few more. It won't be for a few weeks though, but I might do a video asking everyone for their feedback if they want one large giveaway or several giveaways. I'm thinking about doing a Fieldpiece SRS3 wireless scale, Yellow Jacket tubing bender kit, Victor edge series 2.0 nitrogen regulator & a few other items. But I think several giveaways would be cool so there's more winners. 10 days of 10K giveaway lol.
@ApartmentMaintenance Good idea I think that's a good idea. "10 days of 10k giveaway" sounds rich! Lol. Awesome products to giveaway.
@@christov4120 Thanks. It should be cool. Hopefully I'll gain some more subs & views as well cuz in order to win the person must be subscribed. Hopefully the winners are people who actually watch the channel frequently & not people just trying to win something, but we shall see.
...hey WOW man, like I didn't even KNOW that JB made their own tools, I know I've bought great stuff from them on Ebay, we go through a lot of core tools in our govt. tire shop, I was trying to find the perfect core tool for a while but had to give up due to dudes that worked in other sections would use them to pick pebbles from tires tread when on balancer, so I had to go with the cheapest and keep a tire probe next to it...but my first "clutch" core tool was a VACULA made in Switzerland, and I think SLIME must have bought their patent and made a knockoff that works okay...but eventually the clutch slipped out of adjustment...so my favorite tool thus far was a HAZET (no clutch) but it walked...I would have also liked to try the MOTION PRO but I know better now...what really rattles my chain is when some "hamburger helper" puts a prong type valve cap onto a nickel plated extension, smashes them together in the vise and then wants to show you how clever they are....😮
🤣 You always have to deal with stupid no matter where you work lol. This valve core tool is awesome though. I believe it's like $20. Thanks for watching Cameronduff884 & helps support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
lol never knew there was a disposal tool, I would either use a copper pipe or a mixer for paint and use the end where it goes into the drill
Hey whatever works to get the job done, but yep they definitely make a disposal tool & it's only like $7 or $8. Thanks for watching TradesMike22 & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
Thank you so much for this video. How did you get those particular screws off?
The screws behind the knob are Phillips screws. The screws on the back panel are 1/4" hex head screws. You need a 1/4" nut driver or 1/4" socket. Thanks for watching MeryL0707 & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
Saved me a tonne of $$ on this!! Thank you so much!!
No problem! Glad the video helped you out. Thanks for watching & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
This is so helpful!!! Thank you!
Glad the video helped you out. If your fan is humming but not turning on you can spray some wd-40 on the shaft & give the fan blades a spin then turn the switch on & see if it starts working again. If it doesn't, it will need replaced like I did in the video. Thanks for watching AkaDolledUp_ & help support the channel by subscribing 👍
How does the dryer know to shut down if the belt is broken? Is there some kind of back EMF that keeps the relay closed or something? Thanks for the video though, I had this problem for my dryer.
There is a belt switch that is pressed in when there's tension on the pulley from the belt. When the switch is pressed in, it allows power to go to the motor. When the belt breaks & you press start, it won't run the motor cuz it's not getting power which is why it stops right after you take your finger off the start switch. Thanks for watching Austrianpainter & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
Where do you get the part number for the breaker? I think i need one any help or advice
Depends what brand, style & amp rating your breaker is. You have to match all specs. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching g4orce703 & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️ 👍
@ApartmentMaintenance I will.. I need a 30 Amp dual breaker.. it keeps tripping & now I have no hot water
@@g4orce703 Did you check the elements & thermostats? I have a video in my plumbing playlist showing how to troubleshoot the elements & thermostats step by step with a multimeter. More than likely it's one of those causing the issue. The breaker is just a safety device to shut the power off to whatever it's sending power to when there's something wrong. I know in my video I had a bad breaker, but it's rare that the breaker goes bad. Check out that other video & you may save yourself a good bit of money since those parts are a lot cheaper than a new double pole breaker.
@ApartmentMaintenance I changed out the thermostat 3 months ago .. water was hot & fine but now the water is bk cold again haha.. so it could be the elements.. I'll get a multimeter and check continuity on both the elements.. does it matter which wire you take off from the element to do the check..? I don't think so but maybe I'm wrong
@ApartmentMaintenance did the wire checks. Lower element is bad . No continuity at all...thanks to you thanks alot
Were the inner “screws” actually something I need a wrench for? I didn’t feel like a screwdriver would work, but I have been wrong before. Great video by the way… if I can get the right wrench or screwdriver it will save me a fortune. The top was off in 2 minutes
They are 1/4" hex head screws that hold the front panel to the machine. You can either use a 1/4" nut driver or a 1/4" socket. Thanks for watching Ryan & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍

Still couldnt figure out how you got the belt to go on the pulley :(
If you go to my playlist & click on appliance repair videos I have a newer video that I get a better camera angle of installing the belt. The exact style light kit I want to replace. The chain for the fan speed goes through 3 different holes and rubs on every one of them making it difficult to operate. I would avoid this style if possible. (or install a fan/light switch with the extra wiring needed)
Why would you write in the header that your washer won't do anything when it's clearly giving you diagnostics.. smh
Thanks for watching daedaedagringo1977 👍
Man! I changed a bad cap at my property but the air is still not coming out cool enough. Similar numbers to yours. Piston indoor metering device. super heat dead 17 where its supposed to be. Filter is clean. All components are running. Im going to check the indoor fan speed and blower condition but im not sure where to go after that. The outdoor fan and compressor are running. I cleaned the condenser coil last week. Still nothing.
Yeah check the fan speed & make sure all the vents are opened. Maybe the system is undersized for that apt? Or the compressor isn't pumping like it used to. Good luck & where are you located? Thanks for watching & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
@@ApartmentMaintenance you're the man. I Appreciate the reply. I'm in Augusta, Georgia - Property is a community in South Carolina right over the water. 88 units, all older R-22 split heat pump systems. The compressor does sound abnormally loud - I have to look into how to diagnose a slipping compressor. Thanks again.
@@The1realro Nice, I've been in Charleston the last 6 years but just moved to Raleigh NC a month ago.

Any suggestions on where to purchase new drum glides?
Yes, I have them linked in the video description. Thanks for watching Shelby & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
I noticed the original ballast was a 175w type M152 pulse start ballast and you replaced it with a 175w type M57 ballast. Was the bulb a probe start or pulse start? I've found ANSI matched pulse start bulbs and ballast last longer than ANSI match probe start.
I don't remember if it was a probe or pulse. Whichever type doesn't need an ignitor, it was that type. I got the bulb that went with the new ballast from batteries plus bulbs. Thanks for watching Frank & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
Why is belt not tracking properly?
If it's not in line with the mark on the drum something isn't right with the install at the motor & the tensioner pulley. After you reinstall the belt you can turn the drum counterclockwise & adjust the belt so it lines up with the mark on the drum. If everything is installed correctly after one full rotation it will stay on the mark. Hope that helps & Thanks for watching Dave & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍
Thanks so much for quick reply. My belt wasn’t broken….the vent/ motor were clogged up with lint. Tried feeling the tensioner (never took out drum)….but can’t figure out why the belt is trying to track about an inch ahead of where it was…
Any other ideas on what I may have done??
@@daveparsons7756 Ohh ok. That is very strange since you didn't remove the belt or the drum. I've never seen that happen unfortunately I don't have an answer to that one.
@@daveparsons7756 Make sure when you put the front door back on that you lift up on the drum & sit it on the drum bearing, which is the plastic piece at the top of the door that has 2 white & 2 green drum slides. You can also make sure the drum is pushed back into the bearing all the way cause when you remove the front door the drum will drop down & from the tension of the belt it could come out of the bearing. That's about the only thing I can think of for the issue you're having since you didn't remove the belt or drum.
My wonderful GE HD DRYER stopped working, motor was seized with lint. Cleaned every last bit of lint, motor worked perfectly. Intermittent heat, checked 240 socket 240v ok, while running could hear dedicated circuit breaker in box making static noise, jiggled breaker heat came on instantly. Replaced breaker, thanks again 👍
