The sockets went at midnight, my partner and I were deeply panicking, this video helped us and fixed the problem, thank you so much for this helpful video
Thank you sooo much, you saved my life. I’m a lady on my own and just didn’t know what to do with my fuse box. Your clear instructions were so helpful…. THANK YOU XXX
Watched your video Martin and followed your trouble shooting advise to successfully isolate why a ring main tripped out in my Kitchen area. Suspected the washing triggered my RCD protection switch. Had a bit of a think as to why the breaker kept tripping and searched RUclips and found your channel very helpful. Now restored power without the need to callout an electrician. If it trips again I may have to do so but for now top advice, thank you!
Was about to call out an electrician when I saw this. Was able to troubleshoot and find the culprit: an old lamp. Thanks so much. You saved me 80 euro.
OMG thank you so much for posting this video! Our power went off and kept tripping too so I followed your instructions and it turned out my son had left his attic window open and rain has soaked his xbox and the extension lead. He’s not going to be pleased when he gets home from work!
Thank you for the video. Really helpful as a single woman with two children I had no idea why it had tripped or how to fix it. Turns out it was my boiler that was making it trip. Thanks again
Thanks for this! Something tripped in the house here and am thinking its a dodgy socket, but at least I've got the wifi router back and the heating on. Thanks dude!!
Thank you . I was so worried when my sockets weren't working and the fuse kept tripping. I followed exactly what's been said, and it worked. Thank you so much.
Been having issues with a socket in my bedroom causing the whole house to go dark but thankfully those I live with knew what to do so I, rather stupidly, never bothered to learn. I know where my mains box is but never had to do it myself before so this helped when I was alone at home. Thanks very much!
Extremely helpful, thanks to you my family and I have electricity until the electrician comes in the morning to fix whatever is happening with one of the switches.
Can't thank you enough. Just had this issue with the sockets trip switch constantly going down. Unplugged everything, put it up, works fine now. You need to put a donate button on.
Thank you, this helped a great deal. It was the electric shower, I’m guessing it’s due to using a wall paper stripper/steamer in the bathroom that caused it. I’m not sure but will be calling an electrician tomorrow!!
JUST LIKED TO SAY THANKS YOU SAVED THE DAY. I CAME HOME AT MIDNIGHT TO FIND NO SOCKETS WERE WORKING. EVENTUALLY AFTER WATCHING YOUR VIDEO I FOUND THE CULPRIT. IT WAS THE COOKER. SO I WILL GET SOMEONE OUT TO LOOK AT THAT IN THE MORNING. I AM DISABLED AS WELL SO NEED THE ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT THAT IS USED VIA THE SOCKETS. ALL ARE BACK ON NOW. THANKS AGAIN. YOU EXPLAINED IT VERY EASILY TO UNDERSTAND. 10/10 TO YOU
I did all this and of course it keeps tripping. What can an electrician do apart from replace the entire lower floor socket system (this is what is tripping in my house)? How can the fault be diagnosed? Surely there are wires runnng in walls,, under floorboards where we have rats etc which can only be checked by taking the plaster off the walls, lifting the floorboards? It's a nightmare! Thumbs up to video
We had a similar problem a few months back. Things tripped once in a while and could not find a fault anywhere. Called our neighbour and friend round to check things for us who is a fully qualified electrician. He checked absolutely everything including my workshop. Eventually, he went outside to our metre and found the fault, one of the cables was not even secured. He fixed the problem but asked us not to say anything as he could be fined for touching the metre. The company that installed the metre was NorthernPower. Not the first time I have heard about their shoddy workmanship. You don't even have to be a fully qualified electrician to fit these meters. They just go on a 2-day course and that's it, they are out the next day fitting them.
Cheers pal, I had a power point under a leaking sink, god knows why the power point is under the bottle trap . I had it turned off, but thanks to your tip. I physically unplugged it and bing bang bush back in business for a call of duty session and the champions league final.
thanks, excellent video. my new boiler that's been fitted recently shares all the house wall sockets kept switching the mains switch to off. british gas came out and went through what you just said and the fact fuse box needs upgrading
Hi there your advice helped me to find out what was causing the RCD button to trip it was the boiler button because as soon as I turned it the button tripped and went down.
Thank you so much for this. I was worried about switching back the RCD protection - so far so good but at least I know what to test if it happens again.
You're an absolute life saver! Thank you so much, a section of my flat keeps making the switch to flipp.I tried switching it back on it went floppy, then I turned it off for the night.Watched your video, now I'm able to switch it on and it stayed in place. Many thanks to you !
My MCB trips exactly after 30-35 minute. Only lights get affected by this so nothing overloaded. To test it, even when I switch off all lights, MCB trips after 30-35 minutes. So at the most I get full lights on only for about half hour. Initially, thought it might be damp somewhere but it happens during summer as well. All heavy compliances work fine. Not sure what else could be the issue.
Well! Faced with Fuse Box tripping and not resetting, I watched this video, and within 15 minutes had isolated the problem, sort it, and was then able to supply hot water for the misses, and get the electric door open, so I could get off to my appointment.
Thanks for the logical path to isolate tripping faults. Ours tripped twice within an hour last night, never happened before, but been raining for almost a month solid, so suspect one of the outside lights. If it happens again, I'll follow the steps to try to find the culprit.
My friend called me about a faulty oven that would trip when set to high. After investigating the wires in the oven fused together burnt. He told me the lights go out when we turn it on. After checking the socket I realized his landlord connected a 13A socket to the lighting ring circuit and stuck an oven on it.
Hi Martin, what do you do if a socket is full of water? Because the kitchen sink was leaking silently and there were some sockets and cables in that cupboard and dishwasher on the next one. BG engineer didn't fix the socket, he said the leak needs to be investigated and covered up the socket now can't use anything in the kitchen because the kitchen switch on the fuseboard trips off straight away, it used to be time to time before he attended today :( we stopped the leak going into the cables but I think needs time to dry however I don't understand how he managed to make it worse and why he didn't fix it!?
Help a lot in 1st Jan 2025 at 2am. Unplug all socket physically but the living room breaker still goes down. Luckily is that the lighing breaker goes up. Hope landlord can get a electrician soon.
Thank you for your video! I found the pool motor and cleaning system could be problem. Should I call electrician? And I wonder is there any other option I can try! Thank you
I removed the bathroom light trying to change it to a LED and ever since 3 lights and the electric in the bathroom don’t work! Iv checked the fuse box and it’s all on idk what I’m missing!
I have an issue on the socket circuit, if the power remains on with everything thing unplugged is the problem 100% with an appliance or could the house electrics still be at fault? as multiple appliances using diferrent sockets cause the power to trip? thanks for any help.
I'm in an older property, what happens if I don't have an RCD? My kitchen has lots of appliances attached to the circuit and the fuse that keeps tripping, that is making it hard to figure out which one is causing the problem as it only happens randomly...
A plug that is not inserted properly would this cause the mcb to trip too. Out in my utility room the cat knocked the plug to the side on the wall. Plugged it back in and turned back on the mcb it hasn't tripped back down since
When I switch back on fuse box made a loud bang can it catch on fire I'm really scared will not run the heater everything else is working other sockets lights
I had a new think it was a Radial circuit installed in my workshop with a seperate unit from the house theres a special caravan Like socket for the welder i bought 220 volts and also a few plug sockets bought a new chop saw last saturday plugged it into one of the sockets and it just tripped out , yet when i plugged it into a socket in my house it was fine with no tripping out , are these seperate workshop units more sensitive than the house Consumer unit ? all a bit wierd really
The sockets went at midnight, my partner and I were deeply panicking, this video helped us and fixed the problem, thank you so much for this helpful video
Can I ask what your issue was please
Thank you sooo much, you saved my life. I’m a lady on my own and just didn’t know what to do with my fuse box. Your clear instructions were so helpful…. THANK YOU XXX

Thank you mate. A big help at 3am. I located the troublemaker switch in the kitchen (cooker fuse switch) took 20 minutes. You're a big star
Thank you for the video. Really helpful as a single woman with two children I had no idea why it had tripped or how to fix it. Turns out it was my boiler that was making it trip. Thanks again

House alarm was going off at 6am after a power trip. You’re video helped enormously. Thank you.

Thank you so much. You saved me as well. The dishwasher socket was really wet for some reason.
This guy is a legend. Really helped me out this morning.
Most welcome for watching
Thanks mate, really helped, we had a heavy downpour and the outside light was causing the tripping, appliances back on, domestic life carries on. 👍
3:11 = The sockets are dead because the fuse refuses to go on.
All sockets will be dead, so how can you check which ones are faulty?
This has saved me sooo much this evening… Tnx for sharing😊
Martin, your clear instructions helped us sort out the problem. Many thanks!
Thanks so much, my washing machine in the kitchen was a problem. This video is straightforward and helfpul

What if the trips are weeks apart? There are some things I don't think I'd be able to leave powered off for such a long time.
Brilliant video solved it straight away after watching your video
Thanks a lot Martin, your video was so helpful.
Thankyou so much! Tried this method and isolated the faulty sockets. The electricity had tripped at 1am - this was super helpful. Thanks Martin :)

Well! Faced with Fuse Box tripping and not resetting, I watched this video, and within 15 minutes had isolated the problem, sort it, and was then able to supply hot water for the misses, and get the electric door open, so I could get off to my appointment.
Awesome! Glad we could help😁
Isolate the isolator
Lol
Awesome - thanks for your help. Sorted me out this time and gave me a process for the future.

Thank you very nicely and calmly explained things
thanks you halp me to fix my no electricity problem. just now 😘👍
Are these breakers the old Zinsco breakers???
Rcd tripping but mcb is not found it to be the sockets so checked all sockets and cannot find fault, faulty mcb?
Thank you very much for video it’s very helpful

Life saver, tried everything around house and perplexed as nothing was plugged in, till you mentioned heating/boiler, and boom isolated issue
Thank you for your video! I found the pool motor and cleaning system could be problem. Should I call electrician? And I wonder is there any other option I can try! Thank you
Many thanks for your informative video ❤
Brilliant video! Its a washing washine that trips in when we turn off the power to it. Why would that be?
Brilliant demonstration 🙏
I removed the bathroom light trying to change it to a LED and ever since 3 lights and the electric in the bathroom don’t work! Iv checked the fuse box and it’s all on idk what I’m missing!

Excellent, very well and logically explained. Many ta.
Thank you so much you saved me man, you deserve a follow
Great lessons. Subscribed
Good advice for the home owner.
Thanks mate I fixed it, unfortunately it was the boiler causing the fault 🤦🏻♂️ least we have power
Found out it was a stand up fan was shorting out most times if it's a socket it's a faulty appliance.
Cheers pal, nothing plugged in but my sockets are still tripping.
My trips go at random times in the day and night and it’s always the rcd trip any way of finding the cause ?
I'm in an older property, what happens if I don't have an RCD? My kitchen has lots of appliances attached to the circuit and the fuse that keeps tripping, that is making it hard to figure out which one is causing the problem as it only happens randomly...
It worked. Thanks so much 🙏🏾
New consumer unit installed and when I try power the ring it trips and the radial what could be the fault
Brilliant!!! Saved me man, was just about to call an electrician too, cheers 👍🏻
Thank you, managed to find the issue because of this video 👍🏼
A plug that is not inserted properly would this cause the mcb to trip too. Out in my utility room the cat knocked the plug to the side on the wall. Plugged it back in and turned back on the mcb it hasn't tripped back down since
You saved me; thank you so much!!
Thank you for the video, extremely helpful 🤝🏾
When I switch back on fuse box made a loud bang can it catch on fire I'm really scared will not run the heater everything else is working other sockets lights
Great video and explanation. Electric back on! Thanks.

Socket had water spilled and it tripped just now. How long do u have to wait so it dries out????
