  • This is a straight up demo of the new RockDriver Classic 60 speakers found in the new TC 412 A60 from Hughes & Kettner. The Triamp Cabinet will be compared to the older model CC 412 A30 loaded with Vintage 30s.
    TC 412 A60:
    Channel 1A - 6:16
    Channel 2A - 7:16
    Channel 3B - 8:29
    CC 412 A30:
    Channel 1A - 6:45
    Channel 2A - 7:52
    Channel 3B - 8:57
    Power Tubes Used:
    Channel 1A - Telefunken Black Diamond EL34 (50w)
    Channel 2A - Telefunken Black Diamond EL34 (50w)
    Channel 3B - TAD EL34B, Telefunken EL34, JJ 6CA7 (150w)
I tried to get the mic placements exactly the same between both cabinets using the same setting on the amp for both cabs. Microphone used are an Audix i5 & an sm57.

The camera is vibrating. That's what I call power. 😁

Classic Cab all the way -- more open and not so choked-- I dig it

I imagine the TC is a solid cab, but the old Custom Cab did it for me in this video.

There is no doubt the CC cab is one of the finest cabs ever made. It was solid, dense and elegant. I do miss it. But I have come to accept that the TC is at least the best fit for the Mark 3.

@@mmagoon67 I have two of the Custom Cabinets, one had Vintage 30s and the other Greenbacks. They are both great, but the Greenback loaded one is so, so good. I keep my eyes open for them, but have been curious about the TC cab. I imagine it is a great cab too. H&K wouldn't allow their flagship to have an inferior cabinet.

I don't have mine anymore. I wish I did. Yea, H&K would not put a bad cab with one of the finest, most advanced amps on the market. People are very leary about it and I'm not sure why. It's such a great fit. The vintage 30s just couldn't voice what the amp was trying to deliver. It's brighter and crisper and crunchier but you can still dial in a nice smooth sound if you wanted to.

    Aren’t vintage 30. 60 watt so the 4 v30 speakers would 240 watts

Typically that would be the the rating.

Yes! Mr. mmagoon here is a typical indecisive GAS guzzler rationalizing himself into a fidgeting frenzy with this search to make him a "better" picker by splitting equipment hairs when he should be focusing on practicing his alternate picking exercises. Do the math: 4x60W speakers in series (summed)

Sounds like the Rocker drivers are better for high gain which is surprising!

thanks bro 4 the tone samples, channel 3b sounded MONSTER! does hughes n kettner have a 2x12 cab rated @ 240 watts? or jst 100? cant wait for a full review, that would be mind blowing

I’m planning on doing a complete sound demo at some point. Now that I know I can capture a pretty accurate representation the task doesn’t seem so daunting lol. The only 2x12 that I know of is the TM 212 (Tube Meister). It will handle 120 watts and has the Vintage 30s. If you want the Rockdriver speakers you have to get the Triamp Cab.

Well, technically you can buy the speaker for 200 dollars. My Email to Yorkville Sound.
"To those who may ever want to replace a H&K Rockdriver classic 60 for the Switchblade amp, and already realize you can't just by them in a store on the net, according to Yorkville Sound, you can order them.
The part number you’re looking for is “E9940197” and has a retail price of about $200. We’re unable to perform direct sales, but we usually recommend working with Full Compass’ parts department at 800-356-5844 Press "3" and they can get you set up with everything you need.
      "
I'm not sure if you can get any of the other speakers from Full Compass, but maybe contacting Yorkville Sound they could tell you how to get any of the others.

I had a H&K half-stack in the 90s. It was a ATS 100 twenty. Both the head and cab had a blue fuzzy material covering them. The cab had a thick metal grate on the front. Does anyone know anything about this cabinet? Would love to find one or find out the speakers it used. Ive heard it could be vintage 30s or rockdriver jrs. Any help would be great!!

Man, I wish I could help you, but I have no idea. I've seen that cab on eBay before too. You might try asking on the official H&K facebook page.

Hey mate, i’ve seen a few of these for sale and want to grab one. Did the rock
driver 60 cab come with wheels?

The Cab I bought was used, but it came with casters on it. So, I'm not really sure about a brand new one.

I think i preferred the Classic Cab with the V30's better ...

As in every speaker demo, the V30 sounds terrible. When it came out, yes the V30 was a formidable speaker, but we are nearly 40 past that date.

Apart from the speakers that have their own sound do you think that the Triamp Mk3 is in general a scooped sounding amp or can be tweaked to cut through a mix? Thank you. 👍

    • @mmagoon67
      @mmagoon67  4 месяца назад

I would say the Mark 3 is a mid heavy amp actually. I usually have a hard time taming the mids if anything. It really depends on how you capture it.
