    One of the biggest things I've noticed, the cabs and speakers make the sound. You need to invest in either a good combo or a good cab. A 4x12 packed with Greenbacks or V30s will be heavy AF. You just need a halfway decent amp. I'd argue you could gig with one of these if you have a good cab and mic.

  • @olivierjsp
    @olivierjsp 3 года назад +2

    @Ola Englund Hey men !!
    the smallest head which sends the big sound is at Hotone nano legacy,
    I recommend the "Heart Attack" rectifier, and / or "Captain Sunset" SLO.
    They have an effects loop, you can put an EQ in it to fine tune it and you can also send the preamp part directly to the power amp of the big tube head.
    :)

    You know I was thinking about a smaller head for playing at home. So the amps that came in my mind were the spirit of metal and the orange micro dark. I played both in my local store and damn the micro dark was much better in my opinion. You can get more tones out of it and it's cheaper to. The spirit of vintage is great I think but I don't like the metal that much. I love h&k but yeah.

    It's currently just over €200 in Europe, and it's pretty impressive in terms of size and output.
    But it has too much limitations on controls and sound...
    The 'sagging' could be replaced with a tone contour that lets you dial in the right mids.
    For my money I'd rather save up a bit more and probably go for a small Marshall head.

      Plus if I'm correct doesn't the zombie to have AFX loop? That's a deal breaker right there . And the zombie to of I'm not mistaken is actually a little bit cheaper and comes with a tube in the pre amp..

    • @ooferrell
      @ooferrell 3 года назад

      @Travis D. true but the zombie 2 is hitting real close. It even has 2 channels and a footswitch. Plus the FX loop is the #1 reason. I have a orange micro terror and the ONLY thing i hate is that it doesn't have an FXloop. The stomp box version of the Micro Terror however does so that probably better than the original micro terror. It sucks that my tube amp blew a transformer because going back to the orange limits what pedals i can use. Plus, lol, the zombie also has a better eq. The orange suffers the same eq problems that this hughes and kettner does with only a treble bass cut. So u want more bass, it cuts treble and vice versa.

    • @ooferrell
      @ooferrell 3 года назад

      @Travis D. Yes lol. The micro does handle pedals extremely well. Mainly just not delays and reverbs at high gain or medium gain. I bought the orange mirco when it first came out so im kinda salty a little lol. Then the dark terror came out and i was like man!! should have waited. Then years go by and the micro stamp comes out and now im pulling my hair out lol. I may just get a micro stamp and use with the orange and the fx loop which should give me more volume for like a 2x12 and be able to use my time based pedals.

    In the 90s I had a H&K amp called ATS 120 (IIRC). From what I can tell via my iPad, it sounded not too different from this. It was great in the bedroom, but there was not much left in a band context. It might have just been me failing to dial it in properly, but I wasn’t the only one who tried.

    Cool video but I definitely agree that it sounds a bit too “scooped” maybe a green pedal in front of it? Or a precision drive pedal perhaps would “goose” things up a bit? Just saying. It is cool for its size. I think a positive grid Spark would be a better choice? IMO. Ola your chops are getting tighter and tighter every time I listen. Cheers, peace and love

    • @NOKnova
      @NOKnova 3 года назад

      If you already have pedals, this is a better option than a spark imo. If you don’t have a boost, eq and other fx you want then a spark would be great but this would be great for practices as far as I can tell if you already have a couple pedals to complement it on a small board as you can use a cab from a rehearsal space.

    • @davidlawson7786
      @davidlawson7786 3 года назад +1

      Yeah you’re right, I was thinking for the price of the Spark isn’t too bad and sounds great but if you already have pedals this probably wouldn’t be a bad choice for the $$$

    • @NOKnova
      @NOKnova 3 года назад +1

      @@davidlawson7786 the spark isn’t something I was massively interested, but it seems a bit like a Boss Katana more geared towards practicing and learning but in my opinion as someone who’s both a bedroom/hobby player and in a band having a rig that can do a bit of both is gamechanging

    • @davidlawson7786
      @davidlawson7786 3 года назад +1

      @@NOKnova yeah it’s a great time to be a musician in general if you’re into gear and options, the quality of everything has increased dramatically in the last couple of years, it’s relatively easy to find something that sounds good without too much fuss. Btw Boss katana is really amazing, I always enjoy a nice practice session plugged into my little katana 50. Good times.

    • @NOKnova
      @NOKnova 3 года назад

      @@davidlawson7786 both the other guitarist and vocalist in my band have katana 50’s. Great amps but I’m not so keen on the speaker. For studio I have a H&K Grandmeister with a v30 cab so I’d probably switch the katana’s speaker to a v30 or similar if I got one as the amp models and effects are nice. Been moving towards modelling though, got an HX Stomp last December which is killer and I’m eyeing one of those new H&K ampman pedals to complement it in the next few months for a travel pedalboard rig that can go straight into backline with a DI for when gigs start again.
