Single plane intakes are such a paradox!!! They look absolutely amazing on any N/A motor and make power clear to 8500 with the right cam and valvetrain, but they also give up a good 50lb/ft everywhere below 5000 on most 355-468ci motor dynos I've studied. Still, this is a solid setup and sounds fantastic screaming up to the redline. Thanks for posting a solid vid!
I'd love the specs on the cam/rotating assembly. Im spitballing a replacement for a 400 based sbc sportsman engine. This fits local track rules almost perfectly minus the aluminum heads.
What is push rod length, piston type and dome cc size? Did you fly cut? How did you get the ls3 rocker arms aligned to that ls3 block, did use ls2/ls1 style rocker arms with the ls3 intake rockers?
Hey what enternals did you guys use on this particular build and what heads did you use? I have this engine and I'm wanting similar to this but I'm going to stay fuel injected instead carbureted?
You can turbo a carbed engine as long as the carb is boost referenced. As far as hp, it depends on how much you want to spend. LSx blocks can handle 2000 horse if built right, just costs money.
You need blow through annular discharge carbs or you are losing power. Anybody can bolt on turbos and make power, a good mechanic makes power without turbos.
Hey my name is Adrian and I'm building the same motor well I'm having a guy Bill the same motor for me and I was wondering I have a G8 GT Pontiac I cannot find an in-tank fuel pump for that I was wondering if the stock one would work in my injector sizes are 85 lb
Adrian Huffman it will not push the injectors Im doing this build on my 02 camaro and plan to use a walboro 450, racetronix Hotwire kit and 60# injectors.
Yeah. They're going to put "specifications" in the video advertising their shop and engines so fools and idiots can try to "replicate" it with junkyard parts, blow shit up and then bitch about how such and such engine builder's engines and "specifications" are USELESS. You're a real genius, aren't you?
thats impressive I find all the hater comments funny. some people just will never know how bad ass an LS is. Im a huge LS guy. its hard to pin point but is that a 1050 dominator? and what cam? love the power this engine made my bro and i teamed up and did a alumium 5.3 243 heads 91oct pump gas and made 442whp and 537 torque STOCK BLOCK RODS PISTONS AND CRANK there so bad ass. Nice vid this made my bro want to build a 408
Thomas Everett A successful fuel additive used by racers running high compression engines or motors with a lot of boost and/or a lot of heat. It's very effective but it also turns your plugs orange. Never seemed to hurt my supercharged Mustang when I ran it. Car didn't have an intercooler so I can a half can of Torco with every tank of gas during the Texas summer to protect the engine.
I am an LS guy but this power output is not accurate. There is no way you can make over 600hp with a set of ported ls2 heads unless you have a very radical camshaft that won't be that driveable. I'm making 630hp with all accessories on a la 408 with a mild camshaft and running CNC ls3 heads.
I've got #823 rec port heads ported and polished my motor is not bored I've got wiseco tru street domed pistons with 11.5 :1 compression making just north of 580 hp and 548 tq and it boogies!
technically to be a 408 the block would need to be bored 4.030 (stock cylinder bore is 4.0" AND have a stroker kit so anytime you see someone saying 408 its bored to 4.030 and stroker too technically block is not stock... cause its bored... ".030 over"
were do you get the stroker kit at and a total of how much will it cost . I have a lq4 about to put into a 87 IROC-Z. was looking to get 500 Hp and tq without L92 heads or pistons. I wanted to Flat top the LQ4 pistons to make it look like the LQ9 but someone told me I'd accually lose compression that way . I'm on a budget and currently Saveing for other parts bc the header longtubes gonna cost me 1k and the exhaust about 2k with just 1500$ to spare , How can I get it to 500 . I'm looking at the camp cam package too 220/220 . But anyway how much is the kit bc I know it's more than my budget however I know it's worth it to work a little overtime at the job
I agree now way this motor is over 580 people play to much man. I’ve never seen one of these over 600 hp n/a even with fuel Injection and crank trigger. Expecially with the limited dome options for this engine I think Mahle and cp are about the only 2 that make a dome over 24 to 1
@@timbaker6030 really I bet I could make more then that how come gpi had a stock bottom end ls3 make 800 hp all about rpm and right cam head combination and a health amount of compression
thats not real hp put all the accessories on it and dyno it as if it was in car thats not real hp its peak and you never see peak thats like buying and amp for subs on that nice box it claims 1,000 watts but it really does 300-500 that 700+ is more like 500 at the wheels in car still good but not even close to worth the high dollar for power never seen
+Wormser McFeazzleweiner bullshit you lose 20-25% in the trans add all the accessories and not many people put electric water pumps on like i said put accessories on it and dyno it as in car and pay for real hp not ghost power
+tunercars3 yes it's typical to lose 20% through the driveline. by like in my car the only belt driven accessory is the alt. I dyno mine with the alt. and made 781, and without 783. and put 657 to the tires. and that's through a th 400. BUT I'm running an aluminum drum, roller tail housing, lightened gears and axles, and a radial tire. so there are plenty of ways to shrink a 20% loss down to a 14% like I did.
You are a complete idiot tunercars3. "Real" horsepower? Horsepower, is horsepower. Just depends on where its being measured. Let me help ya out. You're talking about wheel horsepower, while this video is using brake horsepower; bhp. While running fewer accessories frees up power, the engine is still going have the same power curve and max power at a specific rpm, whether on a dyno or the street. Saying this won't be a street driven set-up shows how little you know. Electric water pumps have been on street cars for a decade. Also drivetrain loss varies on whether it's an automatic or manual, how many speeds, tire size, all that shit. So quit acting like a know it all like this motor ain't shit when you obviously haven't built anything in your life. Fuckin keyboard warriors. Btw 500w is 1000 bridged. So its 1000w capable amp.

What's the compression ratio on this motor?
What heads are these what's the combo
TheWorkTruck It doesnt matter what heads at this point, major port work.
Cam spec.? What type of fuel. ? Timing degree? Afr ? Compression rate?
What is push rod length, piston type and dome cc size? Did you fly cut? How did you get the ls3 rocker arms aligned to that ls3 block, did use ls2/ls1 style rocker arms with the ls3 intake rockers?
What heads and cam/springs are you running?
How is it a stock 6.0 block when you took it over 30 thou for the 408 cubes?
they put in a crankshaft with a 4" stroke.
Andrew, its still a stock block
The correct terminology would be factory block nothing stock about a 408 stroker smh
How do you have a stock 408?
Cody Green they stroked it 4.125" vs the stock 4.00" piston stays same at 4.065" I believe
Stock block bored .030 with4" stroke I'm nitrous guy I prefer4.020 bore3.9 stroke for better ring placement at396 cubes
Crazy
I have a lq4 imma do the same thing iron block heavy but stronger
How much timing?
Hey what enternals did you guys use on this particular build and what heads did you use? I have this engine and I'm wanting similar to this but I'm going to stay fuel injected instead carbureted?
I second that. I would love to build my LQ4 into a 700+ horsepower naturally aspirated 408 ci pump gas monster.

i want a set of valve covers like those
That thing is a beast ! what intake manifold is that ?
Looks like an Edelbrock Victor series
Super Victor or a Wilson manifold
I'm far from a mechanic. But, can you put 82mill twin turbos on a carb engine like this? And if so, how much hp can you get out of it?
