Using chords is probably my favorite method to develop new solo ideas. It easy, fast and efficient. Plus, it is extremely useful to learn your way around the fretboard.

@@BenDover-uy9zg No, you are thinking of Harry. An old guitar is all George can afford. George doesn't want to make it cry or sing.

@@BenDover-uy9zg No, that's Harry, who can play the honky tonk like anything. Guitar George is the one who is strictly rhythm, and doesn't wanna make it cry or sing.

Dave, when you started developing that A-minor triad with the half-step/full-step exploration, for a moment, when you explored half-step below the A, I said to myslef: "oh no... He is not gonna go for 'Stairway to Heaven'..."... 😂 😂 😂.
Kidding aside, thank you for the lesson. Very creative and idea-generating. I personally use "Chord Fragments" to help me visualize double stops. I simply visualize the modal chord progression (I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, vii*) using barre-chords up and down the neck. Then, just chose a "fragment" (ex: 3 last strings), and play them up and down the neck (just visualizing the appropriate barre) . Gets you "out-of-the-cage".

David is again absolutely right. 2 days ago my playing changed drastically!
If you know the moment when it finally "clicked" - my clicking at that moment was more an explosion.
    I'm for real.

      Haha I love those moments
I’ve been playing for about 7 months and every time I have those moments where it just “clicks” it’s like a breath of fresh air

Hey David, This is very interesting. I'm going to have to try this. One question. It's possible to make almost any combo of strings. Are you trying to stay in a specific key? Hm finish the video the question was answered. Nice. It would hard doing this on the fly though I think.

OMG David, this was crazy exciting. You mean I can freely experiment and have fun and invent new wonderful sounds I like? I feel like you just cracked me open with a new distinction. I have always approached improvisation from the "rules" side of things which can be so constipating especially if you feel like maybe you don't quite know the rules well enough. This feels like freedom. I don't think I can forget this. Thank you so much.

I really like your lessons, but, it would be nice to hear a clean guitar sound.

So basically ive been doing this when i kinda noodle around making chord shapes that sound good.....trying to find those chords in different spots and seeing how they fit.....

It always mystified me when i heard really melodic soloing like you did in the intro. Then It all clicked for me and realised that many guitarists who made some of the greatest solos of all time solo'ed using chords such as Brian May, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton Jeff Beck etc

This approach was really cool. I was playing and not having to think what scale or chord I’m in. Not having to think about it made everything more enjoyable.
