PSA: you get around 50 planes for free, these are just budget addons. Essentially every simulator has paid addons (DCS, Xplane etc.) but there’s also freeware addons from 3rd party developers as well
For those wondering: MSFS comes with a pretty decent hangar by default, with planes like the A320 NEO, 747-8i, some Cessnas, some Cubs, and even an F/A-18. These addons aren't made by MS, and are there if you want something more to fly.
Plus alot of the expensive addons are really in depth simulations of said aircraft (Fenix A320, PMDG Boeings, Leonardo MD 80 etc.). But price alone isn't always the indicator of quality though, do some research on what you're buying and you'll be fine
As somebody who works on the ATR-72 as cabin crew I can confirm the aircraft has a strong reverse thrust. Though I would say it’s just a tiny bit too strong I mean not by much at all and it’s still very realistic.
As cabin crew on the ATR myself I do agree it’s a very strong aircraft in terms of how much reverse thrust but it still is a tiny bit too strong in the sim not by much but it does feel like the aircraft does just instantly stop when applying reverse thrust.
I bought the bn2a trislander and it's great, study level plane, STOL plane, 9 dollars, comes with a lot of liveries and a great interior, with exterior options such as chocks, engine covers, tail stand, etc, amazing
For study level planes yes, if you arent in commercial operations then no, use the free planes avaliable to you. Only people invested in the actual quality will pay. Msfs provides the physics, 3rd party companies provides the planes
The game costs 50 bucks, or you can try it out on a free gamepass trial. And you have a very realistic free A320, los of awesome small aircraft, and a decent 747. The plane are not just different 3D models with some basic differences in speed etc. The good ones simulate every software detail present in the real one etc. Even the circuit breakers at times. That takes years for independent 3rd party devs to develop, and they don't want to work for free.
but think about how many hours of enjoyment you get out of a plane, say a plane cost's 35 dollars, and you do like 10 3 hour flights, that works out at just over a dollar an hour, then think about how many years you're going to fly it and then work out how much its cost per hour, it ends up being literal cents per hour, it seems expensive at first but flight simming is an investment, I've loaded my xplane 11 with well over a thousand dollars worth of addons, but I've had 7 years of fun out of it and plan on at least another 7
As cabin crew myself who works on them they are a bit ehh I mean in real life it’s just not the best for the crew at all. Nowhere for the crew to rest and the galley only has enough room for one person at a time.
Yes but it’s not that powerful as what is shown in the sim. I work as cabin crew on the ATR I worked from all kinds of runways and in Ireland we don’t have the longest runways either. The reverse thrust is just a tiny bit overpowered not by much in fact it’s still realistic but a tiny tweek would make it more close to the real thing
Not necessarily I work on the ATR as cabin crew it is very accurate I will give you that but it does seem a tiny tweek in making it just a tiny bit less overpowered in reverse would for sure make it spot on.
ATR is great with proper joystick or yoke. With a Xbox controller it’s hard to lower the throttle without putting it into reverse thrust. Same problem with CRJ.
ATR also has the habit of not following the flight path, deleting waypoints randomly and the VNAV is barely functioning. Its really not very good. Stick with the FBW or one of the other free options. Or pony up for the PMDG 737-600.
I work as cabin crew on the ATR yes it does come to a stop quickly but it does seem in the sim that the aircraft does slow down a bit too fast in comparison to the real thing. Not by much but I would say a tiny tweek would make it so much more realistic
I love the ATR, my gripe is the reverse thrusters but a different problem. I use a Xbox controller and when landing it will kick into reverse thrusters while still in the air, causing you to crash into the ground. I’m new to flight sim, and plan on getting a yoke and throttle which will solve this problem.
One problem coming from a Yolk and Throttle user is that pretty much sometimes planes would get out of control, like the A310, while flying, it starts to become very confusing to manage as you are flying as you may crash into the ground.
It can't go into reverse when I. The air, it has its auto locking mechanism that only unlocks reverse once pressure is on the struts (unless you unlock it yourself). The effect you feel is a typical turboprop at idle, the prop acts as a giant spoiler and it creates so much drag it will kill your energy. There is a "flight idle" zone you don't want to go below if possible
To be honest I flex a lot of times in the atr-72 in real life of Ewa air and 1 with Madagascar airlines and I think the landing performances might be realistic because we are landing at runways that are just so small but still have a lot of room to stop after reaching taxiing speed
*I haven't yet played Microsoft Flight Simulator. But if I'd started playing it, I will buy the ATR, because it's my favorite airplane, thanks for posting this and also thanks for showin' as the reward.*
Yes but I am cabin crew I work on the ATR it still is a tiny bit overpowered in the sim it brings the aircraft to a complete stop instantly sometimes. I wouldn’t say it’s too unrealistic but just a tiny tweek to it would make it spot on
@@Mgaffo222cabin crew is a far different perspective than cockpit crew. I used to fly turboprops for a living (Fairchild Merlin), the reverse thrust on the ATR is mostly accurate due to how many people set their approach speed. Most people (myself included) will have a far lower vref than necessary based on the runway length which will give the impression that the reversers over perform.
The AN-225 is also great to get it before it goes, the iPad works for cargo for adding things such as fire trucks and helicopters, and a lot of things that you would think don’t work like a lamp. It’s so freaking detailed a table even has a coffee stain on it, it’s $20
Very nice! Just letting you know it’s a very expensive hobby and expect to spend money on things that you expect not to spend money on. For my recommendation, I suggest you buy the PMDG 737-800 or 737-900, it’s a great starter plane to learn as its study level. If that’s too expensive then I would recommend the Fenix A320, it’s a european classic and flies like a beauty. Its systems are pretty automatic which means you wont have to do much labor in flying the plane.

YKM is only used to Embrear E175s. All this happened on Wednesday. Dec 20
What does that even mean I’m cabin crew maybe if you can explain it better I can clear stuff up for you. If you mean we don’t do anything we do we are in charge of inflight security in the cabin, we administer passengers in the event of a medical emergency. We lead the evacuation and are the last to leave in an emergency. We are trained to fight fires onboard and to by enough time so that the aircraft can land. The list goes on and on anything else or is that enough.
Yes its crazy but unfortunately aviation is a really expensive hobby but it does make sense, your paying 60 dollars for the physics engine and another like 30-60 dollars depending on the plane for a study level/accurate representation of an aircraft
