The AJS-37 Viggen is a Swedish double-delta supersonic attack aircraft from the late Cold War. It was the backbone of the Swedish Air Force during the Cold war, serving as the main attack and anti-ship platform. The AJS is the 90’s upgrade of this 70's era aircraft, adding several advanced weapons and systems functionalities. The aircraft was designed around the pilot, with an excellent man-machine interface, supporting the pilot through the smart use of autopilot systems, radar and HUD symbology in order to deliver the ordnance onto targets from treetop level with high speed attack runs.
The aircraft is armed with multiple weapon systems ranging from programmable stand-off weapons such as the RB-15F antiship missile to the BK90 Cluster munitions dispenser to various bombs, rockets and missiles for a wide range of target types. The aircraft can also carry gun pods and the Sidewinder series of infrared-guided missiles for air defense and self-protection purposes.

Personally I run a GTX 1080 and occasionally will hit lag bumps on full settings, my brother runs the game fine on his 780, though Im not sure at what detail level (note that really in this game the only important options to have high are the cockpit interfaces so you can read wtf is going on, I havent noticed much of a difference switching between the detail settings for the ground anyway)

BTW loved that you picked overcast cause 60% of all days look like that in Sweden.
We don't get as much rain as in Britain but we do get overcast a lot.

Awesome mission, love early winter feel, low clouds, the music. Looks only like a short distance to the target.
For an online video, no reason for a long ingress/egress mission.
I've always said the Tornado would be the perfect DCS module, fly in low and fast, hit hard and run. This Viggen also scratches that itch, with splinter camo to boot, I'm really looking forward to trying this for myself. Thanks for the great video as ever Matt.
@TechGaming45 Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting we no longer need a Tornado, quite the opposite. Just that the Viggen should be fun in the same sense game play wise. I'd love both...

A Tornado (or Jaguar) would be great but the Aardvark is where its at :D
@WumbologyTM The Tornado is definitely the better platform ;) But there's surely room enough for all three. DCS fuel dump is sure to be a hit with all servers lol..
bowser515 lol Don't worry I entirely agree. The Tornado has its own perks over the F/FB-111 series and vise versa. I'd love to see both make an appearance in the sim but the Tornado will probably be first.
This is my favorite of the pre-release videos. Really gives you a feel for how a mission could go, which is what I have been wondering. So glad I pre-ordered this module, now!

Loving the choice of BSG music, this aircraft is so wonderfully old-sci fi.
This was the movie which was the most important for my decision to buy this module instead of other modules.

Damn Wags that was some tight flying. I've put together an A-10 interdiction mission like this where the flight has to ingress all the way from the water to Vaziano, while suffering various slings and arrows along the way, and it's tough to balance threat versus reward for good use of terrain.

So cool. I had no interest in this plane until all the videos. Just lack of knowledge about it on my part. Preplanned strikes and interdictions are my favorite mission type to build/fly. I believe this will keep me and my group occupied for a bit. Can't wait to give her a go. Holy hell that HUD is wackadoodle though. ;) Going to take a bit of learning. Never seen one like it before. Thanks for the video Wags.
The way it just disappears when you reach a waypoint until you turn towards the new one is definitely a weird one. xD

A few people have been given acces to a promotional build. Mudspike, Bunyap and Ralfi as far as I know. Atleast they made content with their promo build. Wags is ofcourse a part of ED and actually decides when the stuff is good enough to be sold to us :)

The soundtrack reminded me of Battlestar gallactica, I took a break from this vid to listen to some BSG soundtrack :D
It was only until I finished it, that the credits rolled and it said that this is actually from Bear McCreary from his BSG soundtrack :D
While I've never been a fast jet guy, I have to admit the more vids I see about the Viggen, the more excited I get. I can honestly see myself flying this module ALOT.
One question though, on all the vids I've seen of her, I notice that there is constant vapour coming off the aircraft no matter what state of flight it's in. Is this a bug or does vapour constantly appear like that on her?

Just a minor correction there.
The red light on the Right there is not the Transonic warning but rather the Fälld Last light to signal Winchester
(to let you know your bombs dropped correctly).
The Transonic warning is the light to the right of that but its not lit at that time.
It'd be sooooo cool if a few Swedish DCS players redid the radio communications in a Swedish accent.
15:18 What does that constantly illuminated light on the RWR mean? Is it multiple search beams overlapping like the MiG-21bis can have, or a special warning? Also can the standard RWR on the aircraft (without external pods helping) detect locks? And how does a lock and a launch warning differ (the launch warning being provided by an external pod)? I know I am asking a lot of questions, but thanks for the answers in advance :D

Matt, this is a great mission! I've tried it a few times now and I always get shot down at M5. I must be taking too long to aim as I'm trying it with ARAK and not your parachute bombs. Need more height and that's when I get slammed :) I'm not giving up!
Took be a three or four times too ;) You're probably popping up too high to use a rocket attack. CCIP is best for such a threat environment.

Also those aren't AIM-9L sidewinders those are RB24J which are equivalent to the AIM-9P3 and are rear aspect only.
the RB 74 is the AIM-9L if you find an older text it was called RB24L but that was changed, presumably because the launch rails are different.
I love the integrated Radar, compass, RWR. I still don't know what the death star trench run symbols on the HUD are for?
When the tops of the "poles" are aligned that shows you that you are flying at the correct planned waypoint altitude. :-)
Oh thanks. It reminds me of that old saying... the Swedes don't take a dump without a waypoint... lol . Maybe that's the Ruskys.
I am a huge fan of Leathernecks MIg21bis and I can see this AJS-37 is another LN masterpiece.
I wonder how comfortably the clickable com menu is going to work in VR. anyway, great feature and as always, great stuff!

How did you use the dispenser pods ?
I didn't notice if you set them to release continuously over the target and you didn't seem to set them in automatic mode.
looks fantastic, but how you spot the targets? i mean, you pass the checkpoint, get altitude, black magic happen and than you bomb the vehicals.

Oh man, that HUD is going to take a LOT of getting used to. I mean. I've seen some Bunyap videos where he goies into a little bit of detail on its functions but Im not sure even Matt really understood what the hell is going on there. (Please correct me if Im wrong)

You fly the Viggen very high. It is supposed to hug the ground. I've seen Viggen-pilots fly below tree level IRL. ;)

Sadly, yes. Beeing on the top has its costs. One wonders if not one or two of them were "putting the lid on it"-situations though. :-(

Hey Matt Wagner, I have been googling around to try and find out what the status of F/A-18C development is. It's eerie; I only seem to find stuff (pictures and posts about it) leading up to the end of 2015. It's almost as if the illuminati has gone in and cleaned up people and posts relating to it. Is it gone forever, or just heavily delayed? I understand leatherneck sims is working on the F-14A... so I'm hoping there's some top secret collaboration going on to release a huge cash cow of a carrier module or something and then carrier aircraft / operations would make their debut. Or are you under NDA for that? If so, I'd also take that as kind of a yes on it.
