Great teardown video Ashley. Custom speaker driver was an interesting choice to have made and would have added to development cost over a ready made component. Disappointing to see that neither batteries are accessible for recycling at end of life. Very impressive though to see how much tech can be squeezed into such tight spaces nowadays!
Yes they obviuoulsy went for improving the speaker quality and experience, you can tell the difference for sure. It has to be custom made to fit into the ID. Sealed batteries are the norm unfortunately. If it was replaceable the arm thickness would be much more, and exposure to other electronics would mean certification would be more complex.

Blue Jean - Thanks for the tear down. I'm curious if you can evaluate the quality and responsiveness of the transition lenses. I would purchase prescription with transition to enable wearing them both outdoors and indoors to maximize wear time and functionality.

The best teardown are from companies that try to build the best products in their field. Take their latest release, which haven't been ripped apart by others yet ...thats your sweet spot.
For example, Dyson. They recently released the Dyson Purifier Big + Quiet Formaldehyde, which some view as best in class...(similar to best in class smart glasses...) that's a video that can take off.
@@gentlewolf Yes totally agree that's what we are thinking also. I had in mind the Dyson headphones. Possibly the latest Air Wrap hair dryer.
@ashleysayedreviews I also considered mentioning the latest hair product from dyson as a good tear down choice. Headphones too! Dyson Is a great company for tear downs. They purport to be the best in class and charge $$$ for it...

I ordered a pair earlier today. Great to know these things are built to be pretty durable!
Yes having used them they are the same as a normal pair of sunnies. In fact you can argue they are more robus, as the arms are double wall and glued together. Hinge is also stronger as it has CNC metal parts to route the flex PCB (FPC). Lenses are esily replaceable as well. Enjoy them!

Could these survive any heat/flexing for fit at the temple tips?
'BLUE JEAN' - Thank you for the meticulous explanation of the components of the product. My concern is what happens after purchasing the product, as I have found it extremely difficult to find somewhere to repair them. Neither META nor RayBan have made arrangements for their service/repair. A simple tug can make them completely useless. I would love to own a pair of the Blue Jean glasses, but I am afraid that there will be no service for them should something ever happen to them.

so these glasses are way too compressing on my face with it feeling like it's squeezing the sides of my head inward, i want to super heat the center and barely bend it looser or find an alternative solution, any recommendations to loosen them just a tad on my face? the smallest amount would make a world of difference.
Blue Jeans: I would love the next Ray Ban iteration smartglasses to come complete with eyeball tracking that enable its user to control the eyeglasses 🕶 👓 features like speakers without having to touch the eyeglasses at all with one's ✋️ 👐!
For example: closing one's left eyelid increases the sound system volume, and the right eyelid reduces volume. Maybe one closing both pair of eyelids to operate the lenses transitioning.

I am sure they will only improve with more features in the future, this is only the first edition so there will be a lot more to come. Could there be eye tracking? Most definitely, with Apple making this the standard for the Vision Pro.

Was that the camera sensor you flashed at about 4:50? Curious if it is a rectangle thus killing any hopes for a good quality horizontal shot mode.
That is the camera yes. Currently you cannot take any videos in landscape, if this is software or hardware limited I am not sure. But the reason is they are made for social media. But having the option would be great and seems silly not to.

Question, do you think its safe to replace the lenses at home. The official stance is that you need to bring it to Lenscrafters or the Rayban store (In the USA) because of how sensitive the electronics are and the process most optometrists change lenses involves heating the frames up until they are soft enough to mold. However, the Rayban Store and Lenscrafters are not cheap for prescription lenses. What makes matters worse is that they are not 'in network' for a lot of people's vision coverage so the obvious suggestion is to pop the lenses out and bring them to a 3rd party prescripion lens provider.
I also think I may want to swap between clear prescription and sunglasses once in a while unless if transition lens technology has got much better in the last few years. Having the partially tinted lenses indoors in bothersome and some transitions don't really go all the way dark outside either.

I've done it before- it's very easy to do with these lenses.
is it safe to say you can adjust the arm/hook to the ear?
They fit like a regular pair of glasses, and come in two different sizes. The arms cannot be adjusted in any way.

Unfortunately, mine broke in the first week after it was hit by a ball, and I received a message on the app. It has never worked again, and as I've seen, it's impossible to safely disassemble.

On Reddit it’s advised to keep water away from these glasses at all costs.
However the meta website states the following:
“…To clean your Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, you can use a microfiber cleaning cloth to gently wipe the lenses. If they are very dirty, you can rinse them quickly under the sink before using the cleaner … Additionally, if you need to remove marks from the frames, you can use regular dish soap and a soft bristle toothbrush, then rinse…”
After doing the teardown, would you say rinsing under a sink would lead to foreseeable damage?
There is a proper seal across the arms and frame, however getting water around the hinges I think could lead to water getting in. As for rinsing them, you'll have to do it under your own discretion.
did you remove the PCB for the touch sensitive area on the glasses?
You can see it at 4:10 and 8:45, its the flex PCB under the battery.
Ah, I have the denim blue ones as my prescription glasses, so I can see the outward facing side of that PCB but I thought the internal side would look a bit cooler, I didn't even notice it in your teardown lol great vid!
Hi there, thanks for the video, but would u happen to know if the lens are swappable as per the normal Wayfarers, meaning just popping the lens out of the frame and replacing them with another.
Yes they are swapable, its easy to pop out the lenses and replace with another.

They said their lab uses a "special tool" to install the lenses because of all the tech in it. I was planning to get the Meta and swap my current Wayfarer Ease lenses in prescription with the smart glasses but have been told that it's not possible. Will you be able to do a short video showing the lens swap? Appreciate your content!

lenscrafters lie to get sales- very simple just pop em out from the top outwards. I swapped from polarized to prescription transitions easily
@@Matanumi yeah, I did swap the G-15 to my Rx lenses on the day that I got it. A little tricky though because you can't heat the frames up and the Wayfarer Ease lens height is a 0.5mm over than the Metas but it's doable. I've been using my transitions lens since day one.

Will be interesting to see how long the recharger connections lasts considering they will, over time, pick up a lot of sweaty acid off the top of the nose
the right arm of my meta's snapped, i got hit in the temple with them on and they snapped just after the right hinge, ray ban has beena bit difficult answering my question, so my question is. Is it fixable?
Question is, has the flex cable going from the arm to the frame snapped? If so, it might be hard to fix, however if it is just the hinge that's broken, this could most probably be fixed.
