cost effective ? this or the alesis strike pro se ? total beginner ..but i dont want to be upgrading in a 4 years ... im edging towards the VAD506 on the basis on better quality .. to my ears it also souds better ,, that digital ride sounds good .. but the strike pro jas more than twice the amount of kits . extra cymbal , extra tom . and its £1400 cheaper , not forgetting i need to buy a snare stand .

Alesis edrums don't last. I have a DM10x and after three years two toms are unusable with cracked sensor plates. You can't buy these plates anywhere, DIY fixes didn't work (making your own plate) and Alesis customer service won't respond. I offered to buy them. No response. The Strikes are the upgrade flagship kit for Alesis and they still use the same sensor plate technology that broke on mine. I'm done with Alesis. You will pay more, but Roland is the #1 company for edrums and have been for a long, long time.

@@pdxmetal The cymbal pads on my Alesis Command X were coming apart and the hi-hat pad trigger became intermittent in the first year of just 3 to 4 hours per week of playing.
I recently bought the VAD-507 and the quality is on a whole different level. If you can afford the Roland then don't even consider the Alesis as it won't hold up. Playing on the 500 series Roland's are like playing on an acoustic set which is much different than playing on an Alesis.

I’m torn between this kit and Drum-tec Jam NG set

He opened with a Butthole Surfers drum riff! That thing sounds great and looks awesome; just could be $1,000 cheaper...

For me the black sparkle is boring. maybe because I had a black kit for many years. and when you buy something new you don't want the same look. I don't get why Roland wont make some alternative finishes. like a white pearl or some other classy looks. not everyone wants black. and not everyone wants the same looking kit that a thousand other people have. you want to make your kit your own. just like you do with what foot peddle and hy hat stand you use, I also would like it better if the toms were rack mounted for more flexibility in the placement. which also enables you to make a kit your own style. and one thing I really don't get is why Roland is behind other companies with the actual realistic drum sounds. but other than that it is a nice kit.

True, but all edrum companies seem to have the same issue. You can always wrap them to whatever you want. At least these will last long enough to consider it, lol.
