    The main purpose for the mounting screw on the rotors is for safety on the assembly line in the factory. The rotors can fall off and seriously hurt or kill workers in the factory. The screw has nothing to do with the performance or use. You’re good.

    Hey brother I recently bought a 2012 x5m like yours, and I thought same thing as you, those original rotors are just too simple looking, I was searching for rotors to install and i didn’t know I could use original rotors from a different chassis, it looks amazing your video helps a lot and I really love the way you made the video without waisting time, straight to the purpose of the video my respect ✊

    Thank's Alex for your help. I hope you can find a fix. The car l'm getting is carbon black I will be changing the chrome to shadow chrome. I'm a retired panel beater, spray painter & restorer. I'll be painting all the chrome I have no choice because I'm should I can't buy them like you did & it will be the only one around with the shadow chrome. The brake's have 11ks to go & I'm thinking the original pad's & rotors are the way to go because there cross drilled & the pad's have to match. If everything is the same size it should be all good & I will test drive a used f85 to see if there's any noise.

    Hello, this is a very nice video thank you for sharing. I have an E71 X6M was just thinking about same upgrade. 04:38 the E70 screw was too big for F85 rotors, did you ended up buy F85 screws? Or maybe its like you said even without screw it should be fine? Again super nice video, and glad you uploaded them!

      Also noticed F86 had a "Brake Rotor Backing Shim", i see you didnt buy this part, was it just not necessary or it wont fit E70 hub? thank you!

      Hello! Thank you for your comment. I had bigger screws in my garage. Not sure where I got them, but I had them. In regard to brake rotors backing shim, I did not buy it. I used a parts list that I found on BMW forums. That list of parts didn’t have it.

    Are they f85 (x5m) brake pads? And are the brake pads from bmw? Because I don't like the brake's to make noise. My one's are still original & don't make noise but I have to change them soon & I like what you did but I'm worried about noise. You do a good job every time & clean too.

      Thank you for your comment. No these are E70 X5M pads, and they are not by BMW. They do make noise. I'm looking for better solution as well. The noise from these pads drives me nuts :) sounds like school bus :)

  • @cremephoto
    @cremephoto 6 лет назад

    How well are they performing since the installation? I know they tend to vibrate a little even slightly in the beginning still. Thanks for sharing the insight on installing the newer brake discs on the older E70

    • @EliteBimmers
      @EliteBimmers  6 лет назад +1

      Hello, I really like the way they perform. Much better than old ones. They look awesome. No vibration. Even my wife says new brakes work much better than old ones.
      But, "school bus" e70 x5m squeaking brakes noise still there :)

    Nice video!!! I have a e70 trying to do this same conversation. Dealer said the f85 rotors won’t fit in the e70 brake calipers, did you have to change the calipers too? Also did you have to do any calibration to the brake? Do you have the item number for the rotos and brake sensor?

      @@tonitovazquez87 They will fit, there are several forum threads on various BMW forums with people running F85 rotors on E70 X5Ms. Dealership won't do it because on F85 rotors mounting bolts are a little bit different, and of course, part numbers are different.

    • @tonitovazquez87
      @tonitovazquez87 4 года назад

      All that is needed to do the full conversion is the x5 m f85 rotors, x5 m front and rear brake pads, plus the brake pad sensors? Did you have to add brake fluid ? Did you need to replace o purchase “rotos backing shim”?

    • @EliteBimmers
      @EliteBimmers  4 года назад

      Yes, those are the parts that you need. You don’t have to add brake fluid because you don’t have to disconnect tubes from calipers. I had mine secured in a wheel well.

  • @alfiobalsamo1591
    @alfiobalsamo1591 5 лет назад

    Do the f85 brake pad's fit the x5m e70? If they do I would buy the original one from bmw. I had a skyline r34 gtt with the original brake's never made any noise till I replaced all the brake's it was unbearable to put up with & after one month I went back to the shop & he exchanged for heavy duty one's no difference. Nothing makes me so angry like nosey brake's.

    • @EliteBimmers
      @EliteBimmers  5 лет назад +1

      When I was buying all the parts it showed a different part number for F85 pads vs E70 X5M. But, I assume they would work, because rotors and calipers are the same size as on E70 X5M.
      I read on forums that some owners had this issue escalated to BMW of North America, and several people had their pads replaced for free. I will definitely address this annoying issue, saving it for my video of "5 things I hate about our X5M" haha :)

      Screws don't do much. Older BMWs do not have any screws holding brake rotors.
