You've literally discovered the one sentence that would raise eyebrows anywhere except a rock song where it suddenly makes total sense, fantastic one 😆
As long as it doesn't destroy his vocal cords again. I remember before Lies for The Lairs came out they had to cancel a headliner in Tucson because Bert had to have throat surgery. He was told the constant screaming could destroy his vocals for good. Which is one of the reasons the following records had less screaming and more background screams from Jeph. If you see them on tour, they either have a guest singer or Jeph does the screaming for Box Full of Sharp Objects. Bert used to scream so hard to that song on stage that he would throw up.
Sadly he can't even handle them live anymore, his voice is pretty much fucked up and the magic of music edition helps a lot. That being said I agree it is a great song compared to the most recent stuff.
When did bert ever make you unhappy?
Nailed it musically and lyrically. The gross world we have zoned into existence within a toxic system that rewards greed, ignorance, and obedience.

I think it has more imaginary enemy vibes than lies for the liars.
Lies for the Liars? This doesn't sound like one single track from LFTL. What about it reminds you so much of it? The Used has been my favorite band since 2002 and I know their catalog pretty well. From LFTL you have The Ripper and Pretty Handsome Awakard which you could say the guitars have a tone in the same family, but that's about it. The Bird and the Worm which is drastically different. Earthquake, Hospital, and Paralyzed which none have similarities. With Me tonight which is a softer song, wake the dead which is completely different and then another softer song in Find a Way. Then Liar Liar and another soft song in Smother me. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything. I just don't he's any similarities at all, not to mention you're comparing to an album that has a very wide variety of sounds, as all albums free The Used do. If I was forced to compare it to anything they've done, I'd say it has the closest similarities to a couple songs from Imaginary Enemy or their last album Heartwork. The only similarity to LFTL is Bert is singing, and Jeph is playing bass. That's about it. Haha.

As far as previous similar albums or songs, I'd also add some of the stuff from The Canyon. For Example, Moving the Mountain. Even similar vocal cadence in part of the chorus with this song.

What’s crazy is that so much more information and research has come out since they originally told him that. There is a proper way to scream (even as brutal as he used to) without throwing his voice out. In fact the constant strain from just SINGING his heart out the way he did every night could have done it. Everyone tends to assume it was the screaming, but it’s the constant relentless dedication to giving his fans what they want by touring for YEARS without breaks that REALLY shot his voice. (And shitty management that kept sending them out like cash cows).
What’s cool is that MANY singers have gone through the same process and surgery he has and still scream. M.Shadows is a great example. We’ve also found that vocal resting (3-12 months of not speaking/singing depending on severity) is much more an effective treatment than surgery. It’s unfortunate this info wasn’t out back then, or at least not widely studied.
Ive been listening to The Used since about 2005. For whatever reason my mom got super into them. Just went with my 60 something year old mom to finally see The Used. This is her favorite off the new album.

I love how "is this what you wanted" can be read with a double meaning. On the surface he's asking America if they wanted their own disaster future, but a subtle tongue in cheek meaning is that he's talking to his fans, asking them if this tone of song is what we want.

WOW now this is the kind of music we needed for this apocalypse we are living through. I always wondered as a child what the music woukd be like in our generation while living through hell ect war genocide ect. as I grew up listening to the songs about Vietnam ect .... and this song exceeds anything i imagined. love it. perfectly descibes everything. and anyone who still has their blindfold on can just enjoy the awesome music

Release time can't come soon enough😩 These guys are amazing in not only their musical talents, but also their adaptability and ingenious rebounding cohesiveness! Somehow they can make one song sound like three different albums!

Favourite band for 2 decades now. Awesome lead single. I just hope the new album continues in the vein of Heartwork, which was an absolute masterpiece, and not back to the vibes of Imaginary Enemy as some have noted, which IMO was their weakest album. Like I say, LOVE THE USED, and always will. Looking forward to another album 😊
