I've never felt more judged then when i was at Planet Fitness deadlifting 315 on the smith machine. Where am I supposed to deadlift in this place? do they expect me to hold all of their heaviest dumbells to squat? good thing every elliptical was being used while i was alone with the free weights.. i would just set up shop inside the smith machine and do every exercise in there.
xlMr Harrisonlx so, at the "planet fitness" the only thing that is capable of 240#'s (the leg press machine) or more is the smith machine. i was embarrassed to be in there. I no longer work out there.
Ribert Oberst did such a disservice to the fitness industry and community when he said deadlifts are not worth the risk. Ever since he said that, 90% of the people who deadlifted before don't do it anymore. Absolute joke. It has always been called the KING of all exercises for a reason. The normal person isn't lifting 200+ kilos. It can be such a safe exercise, and build so much muscle, improve your strength across ALL exercises (even bloody shoulder press) and the neurophysical benefits are enormous. ENORMOUS.

3:51 Really smart tip though, if you're starting to learn "how to deadlift", start with the hook grip right now. If you're someone who likes to try the very best even though it costs you a bit more in the start, then hook grip is the way to go. The mixed grip really does create muscular imbalances and will make your form worse (you will look more cool with the hook grip) and even causes injuries more often.

Travis Phillips half of the movement is basically leg press. If you don't use your legs you have terrible form.

Travis Phillips it's done on back day yes. Doesn't detract that it is still an exercise that heavily involves legs. You don't lift anything off the floor with your back. You lift legs first then back.

I've never felt more judged then when i was at Planet Fitness deadlifting 315 on the smith machine. Where am I supposed to deadlift in this place? do they expect me to hold all of their heaviest dumbells to squat?
good thing every elliptical was being used while i was alone with the free weights.. i would just set up shop inside the smith machine and do every exercise in there.

Ribert Oberst did such a disservice to the fitness industry and community when he said deadlifts are not worth the risk. Ever since he said that, 90% of the people who deadlifted before don't do it anymore. Absolute joke. It has always been called the KING of all exercises for a reason. The normal person isn't lifting 200+ kilos. It can be such a safe exercise, and build so much muscle, improve your strength across ALL exercises (even bloody shoulder press) and the neurophysical benefits are enormous. ENORMOUS.

3:51 Really smart tip though, if you're starting to learn "how to deadlift", start with the hook grip right now. If you're someone who likes to try the very best even though it costs you a bit more in the start, then hook grip is the way to go. The mixed grip really does create muscular imbalances and will make your form worse (you will look more cool with the hook grip) and even causes injuries more often.
It's a shame you didn't get interaction on this comment years ago, but that's solid advice.
