Reminds me of my father telling me "I used to walk behind the horses in the fields so that he could catch the manure before it hit the grain" Though this might be true all I have was his word that this was legit. He has long passed away and I tell this story to my children and grandchildren just to see their bewildered faces🤣. Kudos from NYC 🗽.
Horse manure makes great compost, but can be seriously detrimental if just left in a field raw. So you'd definitely want to collect it. Catching it on the drop might be a bit much, but it also sounds like a truly effective punishment.
