In this quick installation tutorial we go over how to replace and install your Xbox One Controller analog thumb sticks with our SOSS Gaming replacement kit. The tools that are needed are the T8 security torx screwdriver and prying tool that come with the kit. Change an analog thumb stick fast! Replace, fix, and swap bad thumbstick grips in as little as a few minutes! This will fix worn out and broken Xbox One Controller thumbgrips and thumbsticks.

I watched several videos on this topic when the rubber coating on one of my thumbsticks started to crack, making it sharp and uncomfortable to use,. This video was the best one. Getting a kit like the one shown here is a good idea because it includes all the tools you need--especially the pry tool and tiny Torx screwdriver, which many people (including me) might not have.

I usually always use medium guitar picks to open plastic casing clips. They're also good as holders for larger casings, while using another one to carry on.
absolutely amazing video. hardest part was removing the plates out of fear of breaking it, but oher than that the rest was pretty easy. props for making this short, other videos took 20 min to do what you did. personal advice is to also use a screwdriver and the blue thing if you're having issues. got my right thumbstick plastic replaced all fine and dandy now
Broke some of the plastic retainers on one of my controllers, but it was well worth it! They work just fine after reassembly and I had the chance to clean them after almost 6 years of use. Thanks for this quick and easy tutorial!

Thanks, very helpful. I would just add that you need special screwdriver or you have to experiment with what you have. It's doable without the specific screwdriver but it's kind of hassle.

I do have to ask though.... is there a way to just remove the rubber part and not the whole thumbstick? The rubber on my one is gone and it's for the Cyberpunk controller, so obviously it's unique and may not have the same thumbsticks available. Red thumbstick with grey rubber for the record.
@@ajward9112 I have this issue with my sea of thieves controller. The rubber just crumbled off after a month!! Tried using thumb grips but it was just so uncomfortable. Doesn't seem like you can get rubber replacements I've tried searching. I'm just buying gold thumb sticks to go with the gold trigger. I would just say look for ones that will go well with yours. So annoying it seems themed controllers have crap rubber grips. Never had these issues with the normal controllers!

So if I have a drift on my current joystick and I change them, will the joysticks be good as new again?
If the drift is caused from joystick wear (the joystick is what the thumbsticks are mounted on) then it won't. Sadly, that's most often the case. However, sometime grime on the thumbsticks is the culprit. So if you were to take the front cover off and notice a lot of grime on the thumbstick and clean it off as well as the clean the inside of the front cover ring, it very well may fix it.

I purchased thumbsticks for my xbox one s controller and they look like thumbsticks for xbox 360. Will it be a problem or will it fit too?
Great question. If they are indeed for the 360 they will not fit correctly. The 360 controllers used a different type of shaft on their joysticks (thinner I believe).

Bro I did this with a thumb tac and a broken controller
Turns out of you can actually get on rubber piece and slide it half way and use the thumb tac to get the other bit on it won’t be perfect but it’s a cheeps fix
Hey man I saw your video on how to replace the xbox elite Controller 1, I would love and appreciate it if you could do a new up to date video on the joystick replacement for the series 2 as I'm pretty sure they have different joysticks and I don't want to take the risk or ruining it because I don't know what I am doing

It is top quality, but unless Amazon offers international shipping for it I don't think it will make it to India. If it can't ship to India I am sorry.

Can you show how to stop a drifting controller
I have a video out with how to replace a joystick which fixes stick drift. If it's just stick drift though, you should be able to simply change out the potentiometer that is causing the problems. I will be making a video with that specific step but it might be months. Thanks for the suggestion

My left trigger is getting stuck when I push it down
It’s only on the short trigger mode
I've had this happen once. In my case it was the switch thing itself had popped out of place. If you open the controller up it would be noticeable if that were the case. I disassembled it and put it back together and it was operational again. Hope it's the same case for you.

I would try buying some half triggers and put them on the controller that would stop it for going all the way in and help you use the trigger faster
Lucky me I have 2 controller from which the buttons are broken so I can use the thumbs tick from that

Great! They are original so they would last as long as any new controller's thumbsticks would last. Ultimately that would depend on the user. Sorry that I'm not able to give a definitive answer, but however long yours lasted is about the same amount of time these should last.

Bru were did you get the tool because my controller has little meal things in side the screws
So it needs a t8 security torx screwdriver. I have heard though that the little metal can be removed and that you could use a regular T8 or a small screwdriver, but I haven't personally tried that. I have a link in the description to the kit which includes this screwdriver, although there are some other kits on Amazon and eBay that will include it as well in some tool kits.
so my joysticks are fine but the left is barely responsive anymore from continued slide canceling in warzone. does switching the joystick fix this or do i need a new controller?
Yes, replacing the analog joystick (not the thumbstick) will fix the button used for sliding.

There are some aftermarket thumbsticks in new colors you can find online. As to their quality though I'm not sure.

Ah, yes. I should have mentioned that a T8 security torx bit/screwdriver is needed for this. I have heard though that some precision screwdrivers are able to remove these screws. So if you can look around and find a small screwdriver you might be able to remove them without needing to get the T8

That's quite unusual. I would inspect the batteries first. If they're in right and aren't dead, try plugging the controller in and see if that works. I'm not really sure what else it could be as this doesn't mess with anything other than the batteries.

@@Marshall3034 Ahhh in that case something may have shorted. That wouldn't be good. Wireless controllers can still be plugged in with a Micro USB cable

@@SOSSGAMING I figured out what the issue was. When I put the back of the controller back on, the thin metal strip on the left was tucked in behind the plastic, so the battery wasn’t working...

Yes you can. My friend has them on his PS4 controller and loves them.

In the video I am using the "rubberized" (xbox original thumbsticks). I'd recommend them if you don't use extra grips like control freeks. They feel much better. If you are using extra grips, you can use the "durable" ones to save some money. Hope that helps.

What tool do you use to unscrew the screws? My controller has weirdly shaped screws, with a dot in the middle to prevent unscrewing
A t8 security torx screwdriver. If all you have is a normal t8, you may be able to remove the center pin by poking at it with a small screw driver or something.

You might be able to temporarily fix it with some epoxy or something, but yeah I'd recommend just replacing it.
If it’s just the rubber grips that have perished, can I just take them off another controller? My ‘other’ controller’s LB has broken but the grips are fine, is it possible to just take the grips off and put on the other? Thanks for your help

It's possible, but most likely it needs the green sensor replaced on the joystick (which requires soldering)

Yes, you can definitely do it that way but it may damage the plastic a little bit where you apply the screwdriver, but if you're careful it shouldn't be an issue.

@@CristianGomez-x1g The front plate stops the thumbsticks from coming out, which is held in by all those screws, so it would be physically impossible :/

What if I lack a prying tool?
A regular screwdriver will work, but just be a little careful if you care about the cosmetics, a screwdriver may cause some damage to the plastic.

Where can I get those tools
The kit in the description comes with the tools, but you can also get larger tool kits. As long as they include a T8 security torx screwdriver and a prying tool it should do the trick.
They make prescription medication so you won't produce so much oil that you make your controller greasy, although I suppose the gloves are cheaper.

@@rromarre No worries, the kit does actually include the screwdriver, even though its not shown in the picture, to remove all the necessary screws. The tricky part will be opening the ps4, as the given prying tool isn't the strongest but if you have a screwdriver laying around and pry near the r and l buttons that might make it easier to do that part.
