Just got my GR86 this past week and regarding the piped-in speaker/engine noise. You can now disable it from the dashboard menu. Looks like there was a software update to do exactly that.
@@thundering_fox Mine was through the wheel -- Look for " ASC " on your dashboard and you should be able to flip it ON/OFF. If you don't have it, you'll have to go through the hardware method or take it to your dealership for a software update on the cluster.
Thanks for these tips! Shutting off the seat belt alarm is great, and a keyless code for the trunk is a big help as well. None of this is mentioned in the owners manual, but there are about 4 pages advising that we should not ingest the battery from the key fob. More of this kind of material if you have it!
FYI. you can take it to the dealer to disable the "engine" sounds. It's a setting when they hook it up the computer. If you don't feel comfortable removing those panels. Also, i have see people unplug that speaker with just removing the side panel. its a little tricky. If only the one I "ordered" in December would actually show up!
Yes, you can definitely bring it to the dealer if that is convenient! Also, Kevin only removed the panels so he could film the box for people to see. You certainly can remove it by just removing that one side panel. Kevin has been waiting since November so he knows how you feel.

I came across a blue GR86, while pulling out of my complex this morning! Brought a smile to my face as its rare to see them in my area. I called it, the Blue Unicorn!
The seatbelt chime is actually nothing new. Been doing it since my 2007 Legacy. Works with every Subaru A very neat hack for sure. And yes, I recently just disabled my active sound control, a must. Now the trunk hack, that is cool! Thanks for sharing!
Keep the setting where the door handle only unlocks your side of the door. Turn off the setting where when you put the car in parked, it unlocks all of the doors. While these may seem as convenient features, they will compromise your safety, criminals will simply wait for you to unlock the door or put the car into parked and then run up on you.
I’m not sure about the new GEN, but the previous GEN that I have does not say that I have heated outside mirrors in the manual or anywhere, but one day when I turned on my rear defogger the outside mirrors started steaming and clearing, bonus!
@@Joe-uf9ml I never researched the winter weather package, I obviously have it because of the heated seats. I’ve have/owned cars that have heated outside mirrors and they have a small “heat” icon on the mirror, because my BRZ doesn’t have that and there is no mention of it in the manual and after hearing about the lack of features that this car has, it was a shock for me to have a “bonus” feature

5:09 I was like yes finally…and then found that under the ‘keyless entry system menu’ I only have the middle option, audible signal and unlock all doors is not there. Is this a US software thing? I’m in the UK. It also not in the mini menu on the dash.
The engine noise isn’t fake. It’s actually the car’s engine sound on a speaker. Seems like a useless gimmick except it’s helpful when you’re on a track with the windows open (usually a safety requirement) and can’t hear the engine to know when to shift. People are connecting the speaker back on to go on track.

Why hsve production GR86s the tailpioes so buried into the rear diffuser? On the marketing pictures they look much better inline with the diffuser or even actually a bit protruded

same! i daily mine and it’s been great! other than when i got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on my hour drive to work 😅 my left leg wasn’t very happy that day (manual things haha)
these cars arent really that great for dailying, they dont get exceptional mpg, they ride a bit rougher, they dont have much space, and especially with the 86, they are not very fast in a straight line which is pretty much daily driving... how often do you attack bends in your day to day commute? 🤣

Buy your parts from somewhere else than FTSpeed or Subispeed folks; support somewhere that supports its employees and treats them with respect. An 8-year, passionate, face-of-your company employee deserves the respect and courtesy of at least a conversation being had about any conflicts of interest or things that would necessitate termination of employment if continued. To outright fire him out of the blue without giving him a heads up or notice that something he is doing/saying will not fly and deny him the ability to make an informed decision on what his options are going forward reflects poorly upon FTSpeed/Subispeed. In a game where you just play the middleman, I will gladly take my business elsewhere to some other middleman that isn't FTSpeed/SubiSpeed; there are a plethora of other options out there that can access more or less the same catalogue of items. FTSpeed/Subiespeed did Kevin Vo dirty, when Kevin Vo was a SIGNIFICANT part of why the company is as successful as it is today - hopefully yall's marketshare takes a deserving hit and Kevin lands somewhere that will treat him better and be worthy of the good-business his passion and efforts bring forth. I honestly didn't try entering in the code wrong to see what would happen, but I'd imagine it would start beeping at you and you would have to start over. There is no similar feature with the sensors on the doors.
Only thing not in the manual is the “seatbelt trick.” They even tell you that the dealer can disable the fake engine noise (and other things, in a convenient list!). I ordered one last week, it won’t arrive till Nov 😐, but I’ve already read the manual cover to cover
I had a 2001 Subaru Legacy B4 RSK and the door handles do the same unlock thing with a 4 digit code. It saved my ass so many times, for some reason I kept locking my keys in the car lol.
Some third party diagnostic tools (120 USD and up, generally) allow you to set the TPMS to zero, essentially. I did this with my Jeeps using the older style tool that is popular for off-roaders. You had to set tiny dip switches and plug it in to teach the vehicle 0 was good to go. The newer ones have a nice user interface, but maybe wait until we know the GR86 is included in the software. (Models like the Autel TS408 do software updates online, as do the higher end ODB scan tools).
If you mean the collision warning/lane keep assist stuff, I think Toyota/Subaru just cheaped out when making the car, and they wanted to make it to a specific price point. If you take a look at the Civic Si and Civic Type R 2020+ versions, it has lane keep assist, collision warning and assisted cruise control. But ultimately, I think the GR86 is probably a better car to drive (I've only driven the FRS/BRZ), and handles closer to a Miata than the Civic Si or Type R. The Si is like a better Civic, and the Type R is like a waaay better civic, but the dynamics are different than the GR86.

I'm not a fan of touchscreen head units, I got one in my 2016 Scion TC I plan to purchase a JVC Single din Head unit to replace it. I'm also gonna do a lot of other mods, it's bone stock at the moment cause I'm still making payments on it. It's not technically mine until it's paid off. I also wanna start saving up to buy a GR86 Brand new in full cash.

@@RowynDaily supposedly to make shifting by noise easier, but its just annoying.
There is also a 12V outlet in the glove box. You can run a dash cam to that outlet instead of fuse box.👀

For gen 1 it came with the winter weather package, which also included heated seats. So I think if you have heated seats you also have heated mirrors

Yeah, it was an oversight to not allow volume control, or at the very least mode change, inside of the infotainment system for the piped in noise.
You could also get a louder exhaust for better sound feedback.

08 lexus has it. 13 lexus gs has the trash turn signal stalks....both probably have better audio since I think the twins got crap Subaru audio.

No, if you disconnect the battery it will go back to normal.

Works on both the GR86 and BRZ. You have to do it within 30 seconds of putting the car in the on position.

I tried taking off my front license plate holder but it seems the screws just spin and they don’t come loose… I don’t wanna take the whole bumper off
if it's just normal screws, put a flathead screwdriver under the head and pry outwards while unscrewing it, so the threads can catch.

Unfortunately all the normal safety tech these days is hidden so well that you can't find it on the manual versions. Very sad
