November 11, 2023 and I am just now seeing your video! I had been wondering how to view or transfer Sentry Mode videos to my computer. I just became a Tesla owner in May of 2023. Everytime I think I know as much as I need, I see a tesla video like yours. Even with me scrounging through the owners manual, these RUclips videos are very helpful in my learning how to "effectively" use my Tesla 👍🏾
Great video. RAJ, I must compliment you on your the thorough style you employ on your videos. First is your speech pattern, it is comfortably slow making it easy to follow. Your enunciation is perfect, again, every word clearly and slowly spoken. It s a pleasure to watch and listen to your videos. Never a need to rewind, no “what did he say?” moments. Thank you so much, keep up the great work.
Thanks Raj. I found it better and faster to plug-in the drive directly to my phone using an adapter stored in my center console than this wifi device. Thanks for the app recommendation though, it makes a great difference! I wouldn't have known.
Went across 20 videos, YOURS helped me!!! ThANK YOU brotha. Dashcam and its footage was able to work and view after I plugged the USB drive into my Mac and reconfigured the format to MS-DOS (Fat) and create that folder, TeslaCam. Youre the best!!
Tesla Raj of course! I totally regret just using a random referral code off the internet. I will most certainly use your referral code for my next Tesla, but its going to be a while 😄👍🏽
On Amazon the cheapest one is $84 +$30.25 S&H. I just found 32GB on ebay for $30.95. I might try. Thanks Raj, but the only problem is you need to be connected to a Wifi in order to access it. Most of the time the events are recorded when you are outside in a parking lot etc and you cant view it right away until you get home or connect to a Wifi elsewhere!
Okay so dont buy from Amazon. That pricing means its being sold through a 3rd party reseller who is marking up; the cost because of the demand of the usb caused by the app. Buy it directly from Sandisk! Secondly the USB drive emits its own WiFi which is what the phone is connecting to. No need for another WiFi connection. Hence the ability to do this anywhere.
Got this app and USB stick. Works very well. Hope there comes some updates soon though. I got a 32 GB stick. I feel that is too small. The sentry view fill this up in a day or two. For some reason all the sentry mode actions gets in the saved folder. This fill 32 GB real fast. Maybe I do something wrong but would like more settings in the app.
you can long-press on the dates to delete all the videos for that event. I may add a feature to delete all videos in Saved/recent folders by long-pressing on those folders.
LessWire1 Hi. I do press for a long time to delete as you say. But I find it taking some time deleting all saved data. Would be cool if you could delete much more in one delete. If you see your car is in good shape but have many GB of sentry recordings it would be nice too delete more and faster. But I love the app 👍
@@badmonkey2917 Yes, I may add more delete options. I appreciate a quick review in the App Store if you find the app useful and support responsive: apps.apple.com/us/app/sentryview-for-tesla-cars/id1464839212
The App SentryView is for iOS only. However some viewers have commented below that Android users can use TeslaCam/Sentry Reviewer app and a USB OTG adapter for similar results. I have linked them in the description! Make sure on Amazon it’s not being marked up or being sold by a 3rd party. If that’s the case purchase direct from Sandisk! AMAZON IS SOLD OUT and 3rd party resellers are jacking up the price. Check out my buddy PureTesla who has them for a much cheaper price! bit.ly/teslarajUSB
Apple IOS 13 which comes in the fall but you can it in the public beta release now, will allow veiwing sentry files on your iPhone via any thumb drive, you will need an usb/lighten connector thumb drive, lots to choose from on amazon, no special app needed, videos will be found in the Files folder on your phone
Robert Henry but you still have to look through all the files and different camera angles. They need to be organized better and combined like the sentry view app does
What Raj said. Also, with iOS 13, you need an apple adaptor and also you need to run a separate power cable for the adaptor. Even then, all you get is individual files.
Good video. On another RUclipsr's video he reviews/compares both the TeslaCam/Sentry-Reviewer app for Android and the SentryView app (only) for IOS, which must use the Sandisk Wifi-enabled thumb drive. But, what I haven't seen from anyone is whether the Sandisk drive will work wirelessly with the Android app.
Yeah unfortunately I don’t have a way of testing Android but I don’t think that one works wirelessly but can still work without a computer and in your car
Hello Raj. Liked and subbed. I can’t seem to find an answer anywhere. Where are USB ports in my newly released 2021 model S long range ? Can’t find them in front cabin at all
Hey bro I hope your able to reply to this message, the usp link you posted looks different then the one shown in the video the one that shows would that one work also
I bought the Sandisk wireless USB stick and it works fine, but I did not realize that the USB stick has to be REMOVED from the Tesla to view the clips. I was under the impression that it was a Plug-and-forget stick, but watched your video again and you did state that the USB indeed needs to be removed. One problem I am experiencing is that after being parked for a while, my Sandisk wireless USB stick stops recording...and I need to push the "on" button to turn it on as it turned off. Is this normal?
MrPlasm0 definitely not normal. Check to make sure your usb stock is not filled up. Benefit of being able to manage it in your car is quick delete of the stick to free up space
Raj, thank you for the instruction. I have successfully set up the and view my Tesla M3 video. I can view all the clips. But, I have a issue that I can't hear any voice through the app. Do I miss anything? Or need to set up the voice in my Tesla M3 car? Thank you.
Be careful, after Ver 10 update I push the Tesla Cam to record. Then when I took it out to check the rear cam. It wipe my whole drive clean and now I'm getting drive needs to be format now. Any problems on your end?
Having trouble with the Sentry View connecting to the ScanDisk. Saw something in one of the threads about you changing to an iXpand drive? I just bought the ScanDisk based on your youtube recommendation (?)
Thank you, Raj for doing this video. I am frustrated having to take out the USB drive and sticking it in a computer to view footage. I do hope Tesla comes out with an updated Tesla app so we can view the footage. Be best if the footage goes to the cloud. :) In the interim, I like the idea of the wireless USB stick.
At 5:06 you said "it takes up a lot of time and not messy".....huh? I think it is messy. Still seems much easier and faster to use a USB thumb drive that plugs directly into your phone to get the videos.
ha u caught me. I totally misspoke ther. I had a drive that plugged into my phone prior but searching for footage is a pain. I like how this makes it easy to find date/time and all 3 cameras in one shot
When I insert my 14 Gb , (Fat32)a message appears telling me I should use higher than 32 Gb usb for dash cam, but when I put my 128 Gb it does not recognize it. Any idea or suggestions are welcome and I’m new to Tesla(Tesla 2016 with hardware 2.0)
I agree. Would be dumb to drive off and then later wonder what damaged your car when. I always do a quick look around the car before I get in. Especially at public garages and when a valet hands me my car back. Check your car all around if you ever valet park your car.
So the camera icon had a red dot (recording) but after you touched it to save the last 10 mins of video, it changed to a green dot..... what does this mean?
Hi Raj, I would like to know if I can view the sentry footages from my cell without unplug this USB drive? It's because the flash drive is under charging dash. It's not convenient to plug in and out. Also, how many GB do I have to get?
Maybe you couldn’t do this a year ago, but you can just watch it on your cars monitor, much quicker. It has a red dot time stamp on the moment in question.
Raj hope things are going well Sir, Santiago here and we are scheduled to pickup our Model 3 in 3 days but I'm still very concerned about going through with an EV? The repair costs after warranty & dings/dents PDR costs. What are your thoughts so far with your Tesla experience....Thanks
I see I got the wrong ixpand. Mines not the mini. It has a flexible part that loops back and ends with the lightning plug. It’s nice because when plugged into a device the main body of the flash drive is tucked behind your phone/tablet and not sticking out. But it makes it hard to get into the Jeda hub, and the cover won’t close all the way.
Great video. Does it record from the rear. Also the USB on Amazon looks different. Does the current one they have now work as well as this one your using? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Toni Belle yes it does record rear now. At the time of making the video it didn’t but you know Tesla’s...always improving through sw updates. The link in description is updated as the sandisk WiFi version is discontinued. So I recommend usb with lightening port as you can plug it into your phone for easy viewing
Tesla Raj Oh, shoot! Purchased old one on EBay just now. Lol. Well, maybe if I hurry I can cancel the order. Will I be able to view through the car with the new version, like you did , in simple form as displayed in your video? Thanks in advance for your reply
Toni Belle Yeah totally nothing wrong with the WiFi version. Just Sandisk decided to not carry it anymore. Also only major difference is direct connect over WiFi is a bit faster.
If you get an alarm, how do you silence the alarm? Can you open the door from your phone's app to disable, or just turn sentry mode off? Or do I have to run out to the car with my key fob?
I have an Android phone and I see that Sandisk now makes a 128GB Connect Wireless Stick Flash Drive that works with Android phones. Is there any problem with using that in my new Tesla model Y so that I can view them on my Android phone?
What am I doing wrong? I bought the SanDisk iXpand in your link. The sentry mode and saving of videos is happening. I can view them via USB hookup to my computer. Yet the SentryViewer app will not show any. It says no saved clips. It was an $8 app. What am I not doing?
OK...I was able to figure it out. To view the files on the SentryViewer app you need to not only format to Fat32, you need to change the "scheme" to Master Boot Record. Otherwise you'll see it on a computer via a usb, but not on the iphone via the lightning connector. I just reformatted it and all is good.
Raj... I'm not really good in computer. I tried to set it up but the cam on my dash board for model 3 didn't appear. When I went in to my Tesla app there's no recording. Kindly help me thanks!
So even with this card, I need to take it out from the USB slot and then turn on wife and check the files? I though WIFI connection stays on all the time. How is different then using the OTG adapter and plugin in the card to the directly to the phone?
Yes WiFi and USB connection are separate so it does need to be unplugged or powered off. The developers app which makes it extremely easy to sort only works with this drive for now. The OTG adapter views footage like on your computer so it’s still a mess to sort through.
I believe for IOS devices you cannot directly connect the USB drive to the phone to access the content. This is NOT a physical limitation but one of security on Apple devices.
sjpdavis I bought a sd card reader that connects usb to iPhone plug on the other end. It came with the app that you have to download and as soon as you plug it into your phone, the app will give you a notification to allow it.. now you can see all the video... $50 for 128g as card and $18 for the reader
Sorry I got a warning that the usb drive I was using did not have enough GB capacity , when I put a new 128 GB FAT32 formatted usb in I get a message that says I have events and then another message that I need to remove the new usb. I deleted the files on the old usb. Now I’m stuck!
Raj, Your video is clear and well presented but has some serious flaws. 1) I realize this video was made in 2019, but you must know that one can view the footage right on the Tesla dashboard using the Sentry Viewer App, save or delete them as needed. So, at least edit the video and add a text somewhere to that effect. 2) The first Amazon link you have to the USB drive (USB Drive: @t) points to a drive that's used to supposedly archive photos and videos off the iPhone. However, as many reviewers commented, this drive has some serious security and functionality flaws, like if you use a SanDisk account, it will share a lot of personal info as well as possibly video / photo information (not clear exactly what as they don't specify) with SanDisk as well as third parties for ads and 'analytics'. Read the software agreement sections 5, 6 and 7.
The WiFi usb has been discontinued by Sandisk and the developer has configured the app to work with iXpand drives hence I changed the link. Also the iXpand drive is faster then the wireless
@@TeslaRaj how do you connect to that one then, still wifi? Also I have 3 cameras working, but the front one is just a grey blank screen on the sentry video screen. 🤷🏻♂️
The dashcam will not work on X models made before June 2018. I formatted 5 usb flash drives and called Tesla. I was initially told I needed a better flash drive but another owner had one that worked in his X model and would not work in my car. I made an appointment for tesla to fix the drive and a week later I got a call from Tesla telling me that dashcam would never work in my car. I had spent 15 hours trying to get the flash drive to work. When Tesla stock was $188 a share I thought of buying 10,000 shares but failed to act. Now it is at $910 a share. Thank god I did not short it when it got to $400 a share.
I was about to buy this flash drive then I told myself that one day (soon I hope) Tesla will release an update allowing us to view the videos directly on the car 15inch screen anyway. So I bought a 500Gb SSD drive.
LessWire1 How is it relevant? I’m just saying Tesla has been very responsive with community feedback, for example Sentry Mode and Dog Mode are born from suggestions via Tweets to selon, and few weeks later they created it. Why not a « Monitor Mode » to watch the videos directly on the 15’’ screen? It can happen.
Hey Raj I'm having problems with mine... For some reason when I connect it to my phone WiFi then I go to the app it's telling me it's unable to connect
xflyingtiger thanks! The links are in the discriorion. Different then what i feature fo with the linked one. It plugs directly into your phone and is a better connection
Marco MM7 at the time of making the video the only one of these supported was WiFi. But Sandisk has discontinued that and the iXpand is now supported by the phone app and works much better and faster. I recommend 64gb-128gb
So with the Sentry View, I find the interface a bit confusing. Is there a way to just view/save a single camera angle? Instead of the full composite? Viewing the full composite on my phone screen is hard to see much.

Raj... I'm not really good in computer. I tried to set it up but the cam on my dash board for model 3 didn't appear. When I went in to my Tesla app there's no recording. Kindly help me thanks!
john estenor is your sentry mode ON in the car and or in the app?
So even with this card, I need to take it out from the USB slot and then turn on wife and check the files? I though WIFI connection stays on all the time. How is different then using the OTG adapter and plugin in the card to the directly to the phone?
Yes WiFi and USB connection are separate so it does need to be unplugged or powered off. The developers app which makes it extremely easy to sort only works with this drive for now. The OTG adapter views footage like on your computer so it’s still a mess to sort through.
@@TeslaRaj There is an app on android that allows to view files the same way as on iOS app using the OTG adapter.
@@mtbcez7414 I stand corrected. Sounds like you have to jump through a few extra hoops however.
How do auto save I access my cabin cameral footage? I 'm a rideshare driver
At this time the cabin camera cannot be accessed by the user and is only being used by Tesla for driver awareness monitoring when using autopilot
Sorry I got a warning that the usb drive I was using did not have enough GB capacity , when I put a new 128 GB FAT32 formatted usb in I get a message that says I have events and then another message that I need to remove the new usb. I deleted the files on the old usb. Now I’m stuck!
but why does it stop after 60 minutes of recording? how do i make go longer.
I dint have WiFi . Is This work? thanks
Need to record interior for Uber / Lyft
Raj,
Your video is clear and well presented but has some serious flaws.
So what’s the deal with the new USB? are you making an updated video on the why you changed your mind? I’ll like to know.
THX.
The WiFi usb has been discontinued by Sandisk and the developer has configured the app to work with iXpand drives hence I changed the link. Also the iXpand drive is faster then the wireless
@@TeslaRaj Can you please post a link to the iXpand drive?
Great referral! Thank you. If you are ever in the Toronto area let us know.
I was about to buy this flash drive then I told myself that one day (soon I hope) Tesla will release an update allowing us to view the videos directly on the car 15inch screen anyway. So I bought a 500Gb SSD drive.
One day other car makers will make cars as good as Tesla cars are today... :)
Arkahell or better yet, get a phone notification when motion is detected and be able to view it from your phone. Since tesla uses its own wifi
Hey Raj I'm having problems with mine... For some reason when I connect it to my phone WiFi then I go to the app it's telling me it's unable to connect
BTW, great video. I'm going to get the products you recommended.
xflyingtiger thanks! The links are in the discriorion. Different then what i feature fo with the linked one. It plugs directly into your phone and is a better connection
Hi. The usb link is of a different one than your video. Also. Mention how big the usb is. Gb?
Marco MM7 at the time of making the video the only one of these supported was WiFi. But Sandisk has discontinued that and the iXpand is now supported by the phone app and works much better and faster. I recommend 64gb-128gb
So with the Sentry View, I find the interface a bit confusing. Is there a way to just view/save a single camera angle? Instead of the full composite? Viewing the full composite on my phone screen is hard to see much.
Hi Cypress I would recommend reaching out to the developer via twitter as he is super responsive. @statsteslaapp
@@TeslaRaj I don't tweet.
Great video
My Tesla 2019 model S does not record while I am driving. The camera icon does not have the red dot
I think you mean dash cam which will only function automatically (if event is detected), manual (icon is selected) or on honk
So you can’t do this out in the wild because you wouldn’t be on WiFi? Do you have to be home?
You can. The usb drive emits a WiFi signal for your phone to connect to. Hence the convenience.
you should get a drive that can handle being rewritten so often
How large of a drive do you recommend?
Tim Wong 64gb should be good.
