The sour cream reacts with the acid of the baking soda to give the rise, and it does wonderfully. I had no sour cream, so added some greek yogurt I had made. I made smaller amounts in 5-oz ramekins, added chopped almonds, chocolate chips, and decor sugar on the top, then baked for 15 min in a toaster oven at 300. Perfect. The acid is a great addition! You're right about getting information from our grandparents. Once gone, it disappears. What tends to remain is recipes.

Great recipe!@ You are correct in saying you do not need any milk in your recipe. I would substitute a half of cup of butter or a healthy vegetable oil sometime instead of the sour cream.🥰 Oops, you did add the butter. How blessed you were to spend quality time with your granny.

I have made this recipe several times and it comes out perfect and moist each time. I do add 1 cup of chopped milk chocolate chunks, 1 cup chopped walnuts and I top the unbaked bread with coarse sugar which gives the finished bread a cracked top that's reminiscent of strudel topping. Beautiful and easy recipe.

looks good! Will try soon. A small note of advice. Try and grease your pan not spray and your exterior will be much softer!

I’m definitely gonna make this your way. I’ve never use sour cream in my banana bread also you slice your bananas instead of mashing it. I think i will love it this way because then I could taste chunks of bananas. I love how you talk about your grandma . Grandmas are the best

A few years ago I was lucky enough to come across an old cookbook at a library book sale from a 1980's ladies auxiliary group....there were several banana bread recipes but the one that was over the top was the one with sour cream in it....delicious.

I got a similar recipe from my mom but she used to use yogurt sometimes too. We never saw the bananas sliced though. That makes a nice touch with chunks of banana. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
