The changes I've tried on my punches in the last couple of weeks have really changed the strength. Quite a bit of it was inspired by your Okinawan series that I recently watched. Driving the hip w/o moving the upper body creates a torsion spring in the torso, that when you then launch the punch gets it moving so fast. Previously I always rotated hips, hand, and shoulders together; the new way works so much better and also made the hip vibration lightbulb go off (e.g. tekki kata). My punches have literally doubled in speed, they start and finish in the blink of an eye, striking with far more force than before. Very thankful for all of the research you brought out of the Okinawan trips and continue to present. I've trained in Shotokan since 1985 and it's humbling to continue to progress with the exposure to new information and insights from around the globe. You're doing good work!

Do you think this could apply to boxing's flicker jab as well?

When I was a kid I practiced this move all the time because I figured if it worked for Paul Phoenix and Heihachi Mishima there must be something to it. I was right, these strikes are actually pretty awesome.

In the MMA world the hammer fist is a staple element of medium-heavy weight ground and pound. Maybe 10-20 years ago in the UFC, and also in that reality series they ran, we saw many novice fighters get top position, misuse the hammer fist, gas out their arms, and then lose the fight when the ref stood them up again.

In Nihon Koden Shindo Ryu Karate, we practiced this strike in the different Bunkai Kumite. Indeed, the strength of a sort of "whiplash" is supposed to be used as well as in blocking to get maximum energy to said strike or block.

You are so fun, I really appreciate your videos each day. This is a perfect strike. Great video!! ❤
When I slowed down your video, I have to say you have perfect control of your diaphragm and breathing when you use the hammer fist to connect to the bag. Very nice!! ❤
(When you were talking about no feeling in the outer side of the wrist/fingers, I was laughing... how many sprains have YOU seen? I've seen a bunch.😂)... my favorite way to strike is hammer. There's a particular burst at the end of this strike that feels natural to the brain and body. Little ones learn this so quickly and use it to their advantage, (adults who just start martial arts feel awkward... 😂), my opinion is hammer fist is born within us and can be the most beneficial during confrontation. I remember learning this with keys and also a jump rope... yup, I'm pretty old. 😂 we would close our eyes and listen to our keys as we did the strike, the whip noise of a rope... if you use the rope wrong, there's a wooden handle to help remind you.

Básicamente el teishui, se ha de dar como un huraken como un latigazo.
Aunque en el estilo que yo practicaba Gensei Ryu el teishui se usaba de forma descendente.
Aunque es un buen aporte, lo incorporare a mi repertorio.

Excellent technique, a lot of impact on this strike. It’s almost like flicker jab. Thanks for the expanding knowledge

Spinning back fist, which becomes spinning hammer fist, is somewhat common in kickboxing. Yes, I am aware the hammer fist is illegal, but I have never seen anyone been called on it.
