Notice how he dropped into the stance with both palms raised outwards and non-aggressively at first. Those palms are defensive but can instantaneously become fists if needed. If the combination of boxing stance, raised 'palms' and dissipating verbals don't work with the aggressor then you're in a great position to launch a counter. Awesome content.

Your content is great. I was at my weight-lifting gym where the regulars know I box. A big guy (around 200cm or 6'6") I know asked me for a few quick tips for a non-boxer on what he should do if confronted on the street. I gave him exactly the advice you give here, with the additional information that he should think about staying over his center of mass all the time. He's a long-time powerlifter, so "the center of mass" is something he understands implicitly.
I added that because of his height and size he will almost surely have a reach advantage and won't have to move too much to avoid a punch and still be in range with his gorilla arms. I also noted that anyone who starts a fight with a guy his size is someone he should want to get away from as quickly as possible.
Anyway, your excellent content goes out to the world through me, your humble ambassador. 🙂
PS: This guy speaks English quite well so I've pointed him to your RUclips channel.

Top tip , in the street if your hands are higher than the other person you will have quicker reactions and more likely block/ counterpunch . In many of the videos both people had their hands down by their sides , if one had his hands at chest height he would land first

The thing is in a street fighting situation, going into loose knees and hands up is pretty much telegraphing your intentions or the other person may view it as escalating the situation

in my opinion, there is a diffrence between fighing in the streets and defend yourself in an urban environment. i suggest to act like professional bodyguard, clear imminent threat and leave fast. i dont wanna win a "fight", the goal to be safe at the end of the day.
thats just what i have in my mind when i see those example videos, seems like they wanna fight each other.

Perfect advice if you are sober. As an amateur boxer and former bouncer i used the same method...but what if you are drunk..ish...and the guy grabs you by the shirt and throws his big right...which most do...for me, i also did some martial arts, so even after a few i know to block that hand down and headbutt him...following up with a few gentle punches to keep him down...but what do you advise when they shirt-front you, sober or slightly inebriated?

With all respect to you Sir,
your experiences are what your viewer/s seldom have.
Running away might be the first advice and if not backward then to the side after throwing some of your personal items handbag or scarf towards the attacker.
Assuming boxer stance and waiting for the hit is the last thing to do for a beginner.
Paul. Best regards and happy new year.

I've seen a few street fight haymakers, I used to work a door back in the day. Usually when someone loads one up, you have time to read the telegraph announcing his intentions, put the kettle on, go for a cigarette break, and still dodge the punch by the time it lands. If you get caught with one, it's really on you.

Thanks for the tips. I've actually been in around 1000 fights (I moved a lot and always stood against bullies), but I am getting older now. I don't know if my natural reaction speed will be enough to prevent me from getting hit anymore. I have never once started a fight, but I never back down either and in the era of the 90's that's all it took to get in a lot of fights. Not sure if it was from all the practice, or just lucky genetics but I was always freakishly fast and freakishly strong for how I looked.

If they got in your face and then they turn their back to you. They're about to swing. It's something that'll I don't see. Covered a lot and it's something that I got seriously injured because of so I hope that helps somebody. I hope Tony will make a video on sucker punches. Specifically you know where they pretend like they're walking away and then and they turn around and swing. Also, I hope he'll do a video on what to do if you do get hit with that punch and how to recover or how to fight through a broken nose. Also, is there a drill I can do without a partner to improve reaction time?

I've been hit many times because of the mistake he shows. Lucky for me it was not game over and almost always the anger of that punch landing made me so angry I ended the encounter. In my early days I did have some martial arts training but I often let that first punch through. After that I was able to block and counter punch every blow until it was over. Seeing this I am much better aware. Many thanks for the advice. One last tip. If someone signals a kick and it's likely a right foot. Move forward and bend your knee. This will take away the power of the kick. Then drop that left foot and move forward in a stepping motion and as your body weight shifts from left to right the right hand fist is coming at full speed and power. Power comes from the hips and that twisting motion.
