I just think an XKR or XK will give you the same performance, sound but with better feel and finish for a fraction of the price. It's a shame because I love the design of most American muscle cars but even at second hand prices I still think there are European muscle car options that just give you that bit more value over here. The Mustang is a lot cheaper here in America than in Europe (probably thanks to the big tariffs on imported cars from America). Here, you could get the fastback with the V-8 like you mentioned for just under $43,000, which comes out to roughly £33,000. If you wanted the smaller, more ecotax-friendly four-cylinder twin turbo, you could get it for £24,500 after exchange rate. To put that into perspective, that's a rear-wheel drive, two-door sporty car with over 300 horsepower for £4,000 less than a new Focus hatchback and even slightly less than the new Vauxhall Astra's lowest-priced model. You can tell the money went into the engine, chassis, and styling instead of the interior.

More to do with no turbos, but that is a good trade-off if you want naturally aspirated. There's really nothing better than NA. Also, it's a Ford. NA Porsch is a different story. If you want the poke in a cheaply built 5 litre, then really it needs 2 turbo chargers.
My own car is a 3 litre twin turbo and very quick (like it wants to kill you as Matt puts it), but, it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as this Mustang......but all the same I definitely wouldn't buy a 5 litre Mustang.

I rented the previous model in June this year and agree with your review. It was clearly built down to a price - the spade handle roof catch is just ridiculous. My rental car had about 40k miles on it, and the wear and tear on the interior showed every mile. It didn't have the huge touch screen yours did, so most of the switches were old-school, but their paint finish was wearing off them. The USB connector on the dash was awkward to use and - likely as a result - didn't work properly (but the one in the centre console worked fine). I got better MPG than you (30.5 per US gal overall), but used it almost exclusively out of town in California for three weeks...

This is one of those cars that you always wanted, then when you can afford to buy one
    you very quickly wonder why.
All the USA cars that i have owned have left me feeling that whilst they look good on the outside
at a distance, move closer and the iffy quality starts to show, when you move inside, then you
instantly know that it won't last long.
Here in the UK they make little sense even in RHD form, but in the USA with it's higher wages
and lower prices then if you can live with cheap plastic they make more sense.
My advice is try before you buy, hiring one is the best way of making a wise choice.

There are several major issues with European cars. One is the outright cost. The other is reliability. And the third is maintenance cost.
I have owned several European cars, including the first generation VW Golf GTI (known as a Rabbit here), E36 328 BMW, E36 M3, Audi A6 allroad, and now we own a 2011 BMW 328xi Touring.
I have also owned a Ford Focus, a German built Ford Capri with the 2. 6 litre V6 engine.
Some were bought new, some were bought used.
Maintenance wise, only the Ford Focus,a nd the Ford Capri cost next to nothing to maintain.
For example, I replaced an oil pan gasket on the Capri inabout 20 minutes, and the part cost me about 7 dollars.
Last year we had to replace the leaky oil pan gasket on 2011 BMW. The cost was close to $5,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two turbos on the allroad? $6,500. Automatic tranny on the allraod? Also $6.500.

You should try the Challenger instead. Although not as easy to rent as the mustang, that every rental car company in LA has a ton of, I felt that the Dodge had a better interior overall, and same ride experience. As for the interior of the Mustang, unfortunately its pretty much the same story across the board with Ford in North America, they all feel cheap. And if you try the new Lincoln range, its obvious they know how to do it better. Blame it on the accountants. Many still talk down on Chinese made cars, but as a Canadian who rented a couple BYD's in Europe, I can say they felt a lot better put together than the Fords.

Nobody talks about the '74 to '79 Mustang II era, an era where Ford really lost their way with Mustang.
However, there was one good thing to come from them...their front ends are in thousands of hot rods.

As a big fan of the 2.8 Capri I'll point out that they would smoke both rear tyres with a very optimistic 160bhp.
You put nearly 500bhp through 2 back tyres and without traction control it would be near undriveable.
Health and safety trying to keep fools alive is why it doesn't feel quick.

In Australia you can buy a 2025 GT hardtop for $87500 aud drive-away!!
They come fully loaded and registration charges are based on weight so are minimal over standard pricing approx. $1050aud total- yearly
All Mustangs are highly optioned here and come standard with:
10 speed auto or 6 spd manual
Quad exhaust system with Active valve bi modal performance exhaust with four selectable modes
Unique 19x9-inch (front) and 19x9.5-inch (rear) alloy wheels - Carbonised Grey
    Quality Pirelli P Zero tyres
    Brembo™ Brakes with red callipers
    Sports lowered suspension set up
Fit and finish on the exterior has improved considerably, but interior quality is average when compared to the Euros
But a similar performance Euro eg M4 or RS5 you are paying double.
Ford offer a 5 year comprehensive bumper to bumper warranty including anything in the interior.!!
How do I know all this? I own one.

I’ve always thought the newer models look cheap. I drove one in the desert and Vegas in 2015. Nice as it was a soft top too. But very cheap inside like you say. I don’t like those rear light either. Remind me of those cheap airfix kits from our childhood. I’d rather have a Jaaaaag!

You need to do a should you buy in the uk as it has different compromises in the UK, including larger door mirrors. The cup holders are a pain. The face lifted s550 has the 10 speed auto gives you that kick you are missing. The 6 speed auto is really lazy.

Ford's have always been cheap quality internally BUT, in defence of Ford they sort of follow the mantra "Stack em high, sell em cheap" so something has to give. Engineering wise, Ford are very innovative and a lot of manufacturers follow their lead but usually do it better !

This was more like it! On the couple of occasions I've hired cars in the USA they've been cheap and nasty on the inside so no real surprise there! I think regulations in the US cause manufacturers to skimp on that sort of thing so they meet safety requirements. That's my impression anyway. On a side note, here in Stockport, I seem to be seeing Mustangs everywhere at the moment!!

Sold my 2018 GT two months ago - incredible car to drive and own. Still miss it daily. Interior is a bit cheap yeah but ultimately you don't care in the slightest when you've got a coyote V8 sitting in front of you. Couldn't fault the car - I've owned a number of performance cars and the Mustang blew them all out of the water in terms of fun and theatrics.
Having said that I don't like the look of these new ones at all., much prefer previous versions.

Having owned 2 of them I can't recommend. It had 6 warranty claims, the exhaust fell off, the braking system needed replacing in full, the entire front end needed replacing for rust, the door seals leaked, it misfired, the window electrics failed, it creaked and rattled and the interior was sinfully cheap. It was pretty and theatrical sure, but as an ownership proposition it was dreadful.

I can't say for this version but the previous one had no head room for a 5'10" adult in the back, of the coupe - you literally couldn't sit upright, which at least you were able to do in the convertible. Given that, I'd take the latter if you ever need to take adult passengers in the back.

Hi Matt….. yes the Ford Mustang has turned sixty!!!!
But can you recall which feature film that the new 1964 Mustang appeared in????
Further the new Mustang 2024 here in Australia starts at $65,000 & tops out at $103,000…… naturally I’ve quoted AUS$…..
The answer to the film question……
    GOLDFINGER……
EON Productions got a pre release Mustang from America and ran it around Switzerland for the film Goldfinger…..
Unfortunately the tyres on the Mustang failed when the Aston Martin DB5 over took it?????
