The unfortunate reason these are cheap: These cars were fitted with improper catalytic converters which would break down over time, and suck catalytic material back into the engine. Compressions issues, valve seals dump oil after certain mileage, and 04-05 is known to have excessive rod bearing wear around 40-60k miles. Which is a shame, because they got better in 06+ and sound so much better than the 5.2L motor which succeeded this. Probably the most bitter-sweet supercar, the sound is in a class of its own
@@javierpalomares1774 it’s substantially improved in 2006, with shorter gear ratios and improved clutch wear. The issue with 04 and 05 is the gearing is 60 MPH in first, so you can imagine what that does to an automated clutch from just moving slowly. Also, reverse is 1:1 with first gear, so you’re really putting some wear on a clutch just by reversing!
@@antraxxslingshots the R8 V10 never had the 5.0L, it was only the 5.2L which is night and day more reliable. Early R8 V10s had a heavily revised E-Gear transmission called R-Tronic, which was succeeded by the S-Tronic DCT around 2013. Those cars are pretty faultless, even though people don’t really like the R-Tronic that much. I never found it to be that bad of an experience either way
This Gallardo is the more remarkable modern Lamborghini to me somehow than Aventador, Revuelto or even Murcielago. This is the first Lamborghini being introduced to me as a small boy in a rural village in Indonesia through NFS Most Wanted.
While the gallardo was my original favorite I think the aventador is just stunning. Gallardo is a close second with my third fav being the sesto elements due to its unique look. My opinion ofcourse
The Gallardo was my absolute favorite car when I was playing need for speed as a kid in the 2000’s. If they weren’t a nightmare to maintain, I’d consider buying one. This car is the reason I adore the sound of V10’s and why if I ever become a multi millionaire, I’m getting something with a V10 lmao
2005ish to 2010ish was truly a special period for supercars. It's starting to feel like that was the pinnacle of automotive excellence and we didn't even know it.
@@DonnyPotenza hell, it was the pinnacle for ALL automobiles. @@aaronkiska9620 damn I wanted one of those so badly. I almost bought one but it would have been so impractical as I needed lots of space and something that could handle extreme winters. I still regret going the safe boring route though
The original pre-facelift Gallardos have always been my favorite V10 Lambos. There's just something so timeliness about the design and the purebred-ness. Maybe I'll get to drive one someday.
A lot of this channel now aside from brand new cars is just thinly veiled "reviews" that are just car salesman ads for Cars&Bids lol so many of these videos only exist to sell a car or entice people to sell more of a certain car on Cars&Bids as opposed to when all his reviews were entirely for the content of it all.
I'd say the Gallardo is probably the most important Lambo of them all. It saved the brand and truly spread the word to a much wider audience. Like think about how many Gallados you saw on TV and video games compared to the big brother Mercy. It wasn't the people's Lambo though.
DOUG! Disappointed you failed to discuss the Lambo developed 5.0L V10 and what makes it so special! It was designed back in the late 80s to succeed the Jalpa, and almost released as the “Cala” in the 90s… It’s a true, even-firing race style V10; UNLIKE the Audi designed FSI 5.2L used in the later Gallardo & Huracan which is based on the pedestrian Audi/VW 4.2L FSI V8 found in Tiguans. A very special car, the last real baby Lambo!
I had the newer model from 2011. I drove in less than 3 years 46.000km with it . Never had one problem with it . Was a fantastic car to drive with with. It’s gives a raw feeling , but that’s exactly the fun part about it
One quirk you forgot mention of the original Gallardo is its engine. It's a 5.0L V10 with even firing order which gave this car a characteristic high pitch sound. Unlike the later models which had 5.2L engine with odd firing order which had a more deeper growling sound. And it's one of the main reasons why the original pre-LP Gallardos are still held in value.
the yellow one of this car is what made me fall in love with it, mostly because its a V10 all wheel drive and it was featured in the We Takin' Over Music video with Akon, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, T.I., Lil' Wayne, and Birdman. What a song that was, still is a great hip hop classic. There was also a dark blue first generation Lamborghini Gallardo in that music video as they were escaping the opps in a Grumman bread truck or something. Sweet car you reviewed!!
i'll also add that the exhaust note on this Gallardo is so super similar to that of an Audi Quattro rally car, but thats just my opinion. Happy weekending everyone!!
That original Gallardo is so, so cool. The styling has so much more personality than the later Gallardo and the Huracan and really captures the era it comes from. I can't get enough of those brake lights that wrap from the rear to the top and the tall headlight housings. You get the screaming even-fire V10 that sounds ballistic which you could get mated to a gated manual. A convertible manual one is easily a dream car for me.
The Gallardo is my favorite looking Lambo to date. The long headlights are so iconic. I seen a Gallardo parked next to other Lambos like the Murc, Aventador, Huracan, etc… And the Gallardo still looked the best in the lineup
I couldn't stand these when they first came out, instead falling in love with the Murcielago design/styling. Now that some years have passed I find myself being much more interested in the Gallardos. Funny how things change like that.

I went back to watch the interior after reading your comment and I could only find that the right side of the side view mirror switch was badly worn. Aside from that I couldn't find any telltale signs of higher mileage wear.
FINALLY. The Gallardo. I emailed Doug asking him to review my dream car back in high school 6 years ago. Today I'm finally getting to watch Doug's review of the Gallardo as an middle-aged, divorced dad with a mortgage and grey beard
The Gallardo and the r8 of this geberation are some of my 2 greatest dream cars. Amazing engine, manual transmission, gorgeous styling, awd traction. I love my a5 quattro, and an r8 is basically that basic formula, and turn it up 11 notches to the extreme, and i love it.
The other night I had a dream. A very popular female podcast ran an AI generated perfect male specimen which turned out to be Doug Demuro. Overnight thousands of single women and lesbian couples strongly inquired about Doug’s love juice. Mark Cuban jumped on the opportunity and offered Doug 1.5 million a sample. After much deliberation, Doug’s wife green lit the business venture. With a year Doug eminences a huge fortune. To celebrate Doug purchased Jay Leon’s F1 Mclaren. Last thing I remember, Doug did a video. “Thiiiiiissssssss is Myyyyy F1 Mclaren”
It's funny when rich people call an expensive supercar "surprisingly cheap". After all, BUYING that supercar and OWNING that supercar are two very different levels of "cheap".
The 2004 Original Gallardo reminds me a lot to the one used by Hector Domingo, the boss #10 on NFS MOST WANTED 2005. On that game, his car is MAXED OUT, except the bodykits, which mostly stock like Sato's SLR McLaren '03.
It’s “cheap” because the e-gear automatic was widely regarded as one of the worst transmissions put in a supercar. Also depreciation is relative, these were under $200k new, < 60% depreciation in 20 years is not too shabby.
I love that they used the V10 in the Audi S6 C6 and you can pick them up super cheap. also in the S8, R8 and RS6 Used Lamborghini Gallardos go for 66k-90k in these years. Used S6s goes for 5-12k obviously different sets of buyers; and anyone would take the Lambo if they could afford it; just saying it's cool to pick up a mechanically similar engine with 435hp instead of the Lambo's 500hp for a steal.
Negative these are not the same motors used in the s6. Might be a 5.0l v10 but go do some research on the lambo built 5.0l and you will find internally very different. Lots of people make this same mistake.
@@Hewardrv8 close enough for 10k forged internals in Lambo yes, but 75% mechanically similar, it was later revealed. Still an awesome motor that originally was developed by Lamborghini. Tho I understand it as not a welcomed collaboration at first. Even Doug and Bids calls it a v10 lambo motor. Still in the end not a lot of V10 cars out there in the wild. It might be cope but that v10 sounds similar when floored.
This original Gallardo looks and sounds SO much better than the LP 560. It's like in 2008 Lamborghini specifically set out to hipsterize it because this one was too tasteful for an entry model.
Man you gotta bring back the doug score breakdown. That feels like the whole point and glossing over it at the end without knowing the why makes the whole experience feel cheap. What are you saving, 2 minutes?
They put the reverse button to the right to prevent accidentally pressing on it . Not sure how a Lambo would handle pressing the button while you're going 200 on the free way.... but I'm betting not well. My brother's Tiguan has a button for a parking break instead of a lever in the center console. Guess what happened? His wife accidentally pressed on it while he was driving 80 on the freeway...
I was looking at this video and I didn't understand the gear numbers either, but I just realized that it showed how the shift paddles worked, if you hit the right paddle it go from 1st to 2nd, from 2nd to 3rd and so on, hit the left paddle and you'll go the other way, it's interesting that they did it that way instead of just having the + and - symbols on each paddle
I agree with Doug, I loved this car growing up. It was THE Lambo and there was only the SE version then the Superleggera. So, the issue with this car that's listed for sale is the clutch life is only 28% left, with these older E-gear transmissions once the clutch is under 40% you should start looking to replace the clutch as it will wear out much quicker, you have to drive these cars with a certain technique, this means that every red light you come to, or busy stop signs you'll have to put the car into neutral and then when you can go, engage the gear again, this helps reduce clutch wear. The Superlegerra had better software and I think the 04s' can get the software update which would help. Its current bid is $71k... That's a good price, anything above that and I'd be wary as you'll be about to spend roughly 6-9k on a clutch replacement.
I remember valet parking one of these back when and I was searching for a DD video on it while the owners were eating because I couldn't figure out how to put it in reverse haha

Compressions issues, valve seals dump oil after certain mileage, and 04-05 is known to have excessive rod bearing wear around 40-60k miles. Which is a shame, because they got better in 06+ and sound so much better than the 5.2L motor which succeeded this. Probably the most bitter-sweet supercar, the sound is in a class of its own
Also the auto transmission in this car is no good.
Are those same downsides comming with the V10 in the Audi R8? I always assumed the R8 is pretty reliable.

For me the Gallardo is THE Lambo, even to this day. This thing is iconic.

I think you meant Toureg, not Tiguan, lol.
@@danyaeger6238 Yea I think you're right. I mix those names up lol, but point stands
I had the newer model from 2011. I drove in less than 3 years 46.000km with it . Never had one problem with it . Was a fantastic car to drive with with. It’s gives a raw feeling , but that’s exactly the fun part about it
I’d buy one of these before a huracan any day. These are the best. Ton of huracan and aventador owners at meets still say it.
Not to mention the sound of the even firing order v10 is my favourite excluding the LFA
2000 Lamborghini Diablo GT also sound nice like this 2004 Gallardo.

the yellow one of this car is what made me fall in love with it, mostly because its a V10 all wheel drive and it was featured in the We Takin' Over Music video with Akon, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, T.I., Lil' Wayne, and Birdman.

I couldn't stand these when they first came out, instead falling in love with the Murcielago design/styling. Now that some years have passed I find myself being much more interested in the Gallardos. Funny how things change like that.

It’s “cheap” because the e-gear automatic was widely regarded as one of the worst transmissions put in a supercar. Also depreciation is relative, these were under $200k new, < 60% depreciation in 20 years is not too shabby.

Used Lamborghini Gallardos go for 66k-90k in these years.
