  • An end of September salute to the NS and CSX Trains of Pittsburgh!
    The hometown of Homestead at milepost 12 showed a green signal on the northbound track of the Mon Line. Around the curve at the waterfront we catch a light power movement with an NS Dash 9, an ES44DC, an SD60E, and rounding out the four engine lashup is the #8100 Nickel Plate Road ES44AC Heritage Unit! (NPR engine is black and gold! The colors of the Steel City!)
    Further up the line in the south side of Pittsburgh, NS 9372 pulls a long and heavy double stack container train north through CP-BELL and onto the Fort Wayne Line.
    Back to the spot of the Homestead Strike at Pinkerton's Landing we catch yet another intermodal train. This time it is lead by CSX 7583 over the Monongahela River, pulling mostly empty well cars in this short consist.
    Finally, we get up close and personal with this spot directly under the Homestead Greys Bridge. Here we catch two C40-8W's pulling only single stack containers through the waterfront.

    @Michael Shanely
    Sorry this reply is overdue, but I believe, at least one reason, is because CSX's intermodal freight through the Pittsburgh area is not priority or in high demand for that matter. Down here for CSX, you see a lot of autoracks, mixed freight, and coal trains more than you see intermodal.

    Nice video! Is there a reason why CSX usually only runs with single-stack containers on the Pittsburgh Sub?
