  • Spring time is in full swing and so are the trains in the Pittsburgh Area.
The first is a CSX train crossing the Pinkerton's Landing Bridge into the waterfront area of Homestead. A different angle than in past videos I thought it made a nice FOV shot of this monster consist which included mixed freight being pulled by an ES44 and a leased OFOX SD40-2 Locomotive. Very interesting to see!
Near the Whemco Steel Company building a local freight train moves along the siding of the single track mainline that is the Pittsburgh Sub. It stops and waits for two southbound trains. The first is an autorack train led by CSX 3160. The second is a mixed freight consist led by CSX 7677 and 3 more engines. Finally the local freight train switches over to the primary track and drives off into the distance.
As the sun sets on the waterfront, one final CSX tank train rolls through headed north through Pittsburgh with 2 additional BNSF locomotives attached.
Late evening on the Norfolk Southern Mon Line is the first train that passes. Headed northbound to Conway, PA a heavy coal train led by NS 7541 rolls under the Homestead Grey's Bridge and past milepost 12 behind us.
A southbound mixed freight train catches us off guard but we still capture an up close passing of this mixed freight train. Unfortunately the train that was supposed to be the main character was the northbound coal train that included a Canadian Pacific ES44 locomotive.
Finally to put a cap on this edition of SCT, two Dash 9 locomotives roar through Homestead along 7th avenue, headed northbound through Pittsburgh and eventually to Conway, PA.
