  • The transmitter picked up NS 294 headed south from Conway. 294 is a double stack Intermodal train that was routed to the Mon Line because of height limitations through the city of Pittsburgh. It would then reconnect with the Pittsburgh Line at CP Wing.
Interestingly enough the Tier 4s (ET44AC) are pulling the last train in the video because of track issues, where other northbound and southbound trains had priority. Eventually after 6 different trains pass us by we catch 294 coming passed milepost 12 and south towards Wing.
Also featured in this video is a rare appearance on the CSX Pittsburgh Sub. The Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad ran three SD40-3s through Homestead, PA hauling an empty coal consist. The bright orange and yellow were definitely a sight to see.

That B&P train runs as T065 on CSX, it originates out of B&P's Riker Yard and then runs to New Castle (CSX). From there it goes to Newell Yard and then to Bailey Mine, and then makes the return trip. On B&P it's known as RINC (empty) and NCRI (loaded). These trains aren't all too rare, they have been running a few these past two months, more so in May than now.

All of the NS double stack trains through Pittsburgh are routed to the Monongahela Line. But nice video. Were you expecting to see the new NS Tier 4's?
