  • Traveled to downtown Greensburg, PA where the NS Pittsburgh Line runs right through the towns' Amtrak Station. We catch an eastbound intermodal train led by NS 9857. The two Dash 9 units were cruising at about 45 mph.
After the first train, there was absolutely no activity that was able to be captured so we headed back home to the Mon Line and caught two southbound intermodal trains one right after the other.
The first was NS 9746 in a three engine lash-up consisting of all Dash 9 units. The second was a surprise visit from two SD60M's pulling an even longer train but was clearly slowing down and preparing to stop for another train further down the line.
Heading about a mile to the south we turn to catch two NS diesels attached to some foreign power pulling some heavy coal north through Pittsburgh. NS 8300, a D8-40CW Narrow nose, lead a D9-40CW, and a rare BNSF 6654 ES44C4.
One CSX Train that made the cut, was slow moving bulk commodity freight train pulling out of McKeesport Yard. The four engine lash-up consisted of CSX 35 leading the way, with yet another BNSF ES44C4 second in line, then a GP40-2, and rounding out the big four was an SD40-2. This long, slow moving freight train was headed over the Youghiogheny Bridge and directed south to Port Vue. The train crept by at a steady pace and then started to speed up by the last 10 cars.
