We have stainless tank raps that are pretty rough on the bottom half. So my question is, can a sand that like aluminum and then polish with the stainless rouge. Or maybe there’s a different trick to smoothing out stainless"

You can sand it like aluminum only use less aggressive grits. Don't go any deeper than you need to and when sanding at 600 don't stop until it looks super shiny then buff. If it isn't already shiny it isn't ready to buff.

I don’t sand diamond plate. Waste of time and money for not enough results. Hard to recoup the cost.

Do they make small 3 or 4 inch buff wheels for getting into tight spots? Maybe for small air grinders...?

Would you please put the information about the wheels and compound in the information section
    Thanks in advance

I did this method and it left haze marks I used the orange and brown then yellow and green but still didn’t come out. What can I do next?

If you used brown rouge on stainless it definitely will get cloudy. Tripoli is too big of an abrasive and the wrong mixture to polish. I mean it can polish but it won't polish great. You need stainless compounds to properly polish. Black, green or yellow. But if rough you have to start with a black compound and finish with either green or yellow. Not all black rouges are the same. My black that we sell on goshineon.com is a quick cutting and good gloss coloring bar. Then finish with green or yellow rouge. That is the best route.

Ok, I have a question. I have been cutting and polishing my tanks. At what speed should I be cutting, and what speed should I polish? I have been cutting between 800 and 1400 depending on how rough the area is and I have been polishing between 1500 and 1800. Is that ok for my Aluminum tanks and wheels? or should I be polishing at a higher speed? Thank you in advance!

I have videos here on how to polish tanks. I run 6,000 rpm but it’s not safe and not for everyone. I tell guys to start at 3500 and move up when you are ready. 800-1400 would take forever to build heat.

@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing I did find that it takes longer to build heat. I have watched a lot of your videos to be sure my thoughts on the stages and process was right. I just wasn’t sure about the speed because it was taking longer than I thought. Thank you for your reply. I’ll step it up. I definitely understand the 6,000 speed. One of my grinders will do 20,000 rpm. It’s a beast. Not for everyone for sure. I’ll tell you this tho, I have a lot of respect for polishers such as yourself. I spent two days detailing and polishing my truck and I’m not out of shape but I will say, I’m pretty sore! Ha ha

If it's your own truck or company's truck I just use the step treads to rake the wheel. Works for me just fine
