If you fill the handle up to where the Tang stops with JB weld that blade won't go anywhere. Use a turkey injector syringe to get it where you want it and keep it from spilling in the survival kit space. I love D2!
Knife is a winner, price point is not. I would feel comfortable using the knife but, there are several less expensive choices out there. I love this series and are glad you are doing it. I probably would never have seen this knife otherwise. Great vid thanks for making it.
Wore out two leather hats like yours Bryan. Fold in half and store inside a chest pocket in a leather dress jacket. Used the hat only for rain or snow.
Mate u have to watch my review I did some years back in Australia LOL, the back spine is for busting dead branches off a tree LOL, not trying to chop through a dead branch.
Looks like that's a emergency sewing and suture kit. Does not look like sterile catgut to me though. Regardless it could close a wound until medical assistance is found. I personally prefer that Blade grind and mild variations of that style. Convex grinds, and stout points make strong blades.
Looks really solid sir. The martin custom hollow handles basically make theirs very similarly, the only difference being they fill up that empty space around the tang with an epoxy.. just gives ya a little more insurance and takes away any wiggle room.
Actually, as far a as I can tell, the Martin Aparro features a threaded steel handle and the tang is threaded into the handle and then epoxied. There is a pretty good explanation of how they are made in their website. And, since you brought it up, I have the Boker production version sitting on my desk right now. It is a beast. Stay tuned for that video.
I am normally into most of the Russian import items: vodka, women, Dr Zhivago movies. However I would have to think long before spending the coin on this due to: 1. It is a big blade not to have a full tang. (Echo the Russian women....see what I did there?) 2. The hollow handle space is so small it seems barely worth the trouble. 3. A knife of that length really needs a striking space atop the blade. Seems the sacrificial bone blade is more bling than thing. 4. Imho the knife is too large for practical purposes. Great video and review. This helped me rule out this particular blade. But there will be more. I will find the love of my knife.....ummmm.
It seems a really good knife. You’re right when you say you wouldn’t be batonning big logs. You’d only need some kindling. The bigger logs go on the fire. I’ve seen too many videos on these hollow handle knives where they are tested to destruction on unfeasible tests.
I like the fact that people are trying to improve the strength/quality of this style knife. However, in my view, the key is the trade off between the very tiny storage compartment, (which you could put anywhere on you), and the difference in strength and better handle options of a full tang knife.
No sewing kit in the handle? What gives? I personally wouldn't trust my life to a knife with a tang like that, but it passed all other tests well enough. Thanks for sharing it with us Brian. Your channel is my favorite.
Great Test! Try the back edge by chopping towards the right side only, and always hitting inside the previous cut: This shortens the time to cut a little, for a thinner main edge at least... Alternating chop sides is a handicap to some knives.
Brian, the schf1 and 2 seem to be the only true full tang or single piece knife in this genre of knives. That to me makes them hands down the best knives for a survivor/proper general all around knife. Once the handle is empty a adult libation could be substituted for the substandard gear.
You should get one of the original Rambo knives and do this. Just to see how good a knife it really was. Most of the guys I knew that were in Vietnam. Would not carry one of these Hollow handle knives.
i own that knife and after chopping with it for 10min it developed some blade play,it was a gift from my wife, she had it engraved so im stuck with it, never told her, i didnt want to make her feel bad, so now it just sits on the shelf:’( .they make a full tang version, if anyone is interested in this knife i would look at that one.
It's a nice heavy knife but I think I will just keep my Kay-Bar fighting knife. I had it now for fifty years . I use it every day . Even in the kitchen.
why not try out the Cold Steel Bowie Bushman? It is one piece construction made of SK5 steel, no survival kit but room to make one. The knife also doubles as a spear for survival hunting?
Looks good but not at$190. Either way the products you review are not what gets my 👍. Its the review itself and as always you get another 👍! Thanks Brian.
Enjoyed watching the review on this knife. I would consider the purchase but my concerns are the wobble facter. Over it appears to be a suitable knife with an overall strength but with the wabble weakness. I wonder if Putin is aware of this issue???
If it works it's not the wrong way to do it does it matter if you push or pull or whatever as long as you get the fire going so Brian you keep doing it your way it seems to work better
That Russian knife seem to be nice and good and the factory may not have tightened the blade and handle like it should have been at the factory. That is a nice test and in my opinion the knife passed the test and for one which isn't a full tang knife it is nice.
I pilled the blade out and banged the receiving notch on a piece of wood to make sure it wasn't spread from the bad throws, then re-assembled it. It is absolutely rock solid now. I am pretty sure it will last as long as I want if I stop throwing it against a hard surface.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose This is a nice knife I looked on Google to see if its steel being made. According to Google it says this knife is discontinued. Do you know If its still being made in Russia or is simply no longer available?
The only hollow handle knife I would want would one made by Chris Reeve and they do not appear to make those any longer. I had a small one in A2 steel but do not know if I will ever get it back from the sheath maker. :-(

No, you're not supposed to pull it! That's BS! The best way is to plant the rod at the base of the tinder, and scrape. Yes, there's a reason the enclosed implement is called a scraper, and the rod *isn't* called a puller! Ultimately, the best way is the way that works most efficiently for you!!

You know how Jake does it? He reaches in his pocket and gets out his bic lighter. Matter of fact, take all that junk out of the handle and put one in there.
Carry a waterproof belt pouch that'll hold 8 times what the knife handle will, with a good full tang blade That said carry multiple lighters and ferros too. I can see a few sail needles and some tinder, self made fishing kit and decent storm matches though in a hollow handle. If you pick the items out yourself they're a lot better
