Sorry for the late release time on this video. It was a crazy week. Please let me know what you think of this knife but remember......comments containing "cuss words" won't make it past my filters so nobody will be able to see them or respond to them, including me.
@@NHGeneral you can get good bic litters made of metal online and they're much more durable than the plastic ones which if they don't fit perfectly into the handle might get tossed around inside and break
Love this series! First Blood ignited my love for knives and you have been doing great on testing a variety of hollow handles. Always great to see your balance testing. Thank you for the shout out! Oh, love the MRE Monday series also.
Hello, I congratulate you on the video. I am from Spain and I wanted to say that this knife is a copy and surely of poor quality of the JUNGLE KING I, of the AITOR house, in Spain. They are 2 and 3. They vary in size. from the mid 80's. Very good quality. A greeting.
My brother had one of these when I was a teenager and its definitely better than the HF version. Still not great but better. Btw the diamond sharpener is on the sheath under the string wrap.
Hi. I was looking the same thing, and I think that it looks a bit too much like Aitor sheath, I really believe that in this one it is genuine Aitor sheath plastic, because why knockoff would have indents for rivets on leg lanyard holes, but no strenghtening rivets, logo has all the same elements in it, and not even mirrored, knockoff would not have those rivet places and logo would be tiger or something like that. Both knifes are knockoffs or there are variations on the smaller blade, strangely there is a spring inside the handle and not just rubber or nothing
I've had good experience with the harbor freight style one. For the products pros. It's not a knife that I would have in a survival situation. But, I have found it to be a good beat around knife for just rough messy tasks. I've often used it for the saw spine. I've had no issues cutting thick wood.
About 10 years back I bought 1 of them EXACT knives & after a few years, STUPIDLY I tried intentionally to break it !! I was in for a SHOCK....I threw it at trees & rock piles & NO WAY did it break or loosen in the handle !! For a cheap $20 made in china knife, it was tough as hell !! I'd buy one again for sure !! 👌👍
The #1 thing I want to know about a Rambo knife is how strong the joint is. That is, the joint between the blade & handle. Plz consider testing all your Rambo's (to destruction) in a future vid. Regards.
This starts pretty dang sturdy but if you want it bombproof pour some JB weld in the handle where the tang fits in and let it cure. That blade is never gonna wobble or come out.
There's a store in my town that sells (I believe) this exact knife, and after seeing this video I wouldn't be against buying it. Maybe off amazon depending on price difference lol
Not going to lie, I absolutely loath these hallow handle kind of knives but this video actually made me want to buy one and replace my Uncle's Harbor Freight one with it.
I was amazed to see that the Maxam Survival knife is very similar to my Jungle King I survival knife which my father gave me as a gift in 1984 after a boyscout Jamboree. The only thing missing is a small wet stone , a small liquid container and some basic signaling instructions near the signal mirror. Btw the rubber of the slingshot in my kit was the only thing that needed replacement. Knife still works perfectly to this day and I will eventually inherit it to my son when he makes Eagle Scout. I would love for you, if possible to make a side to side comparison of the Maxam with the Jungle King I from Aitor to see what I’m talking about.
Me and my good buddy would head to a local creek here in georgia after school and practice throwing knives. The knives we used were the crappy hollow handle knives that cost about 5 bucks. My friend used the same 360 degree spin technique you do and he was a deadeye with those things.. We also would unscrew the compass part for throwing and amazingly, the knives never broke. All ya had to do to maintain them was to tighten the bolt every now and then. I dont think we ever once used those things for their intended purpose!
Hello Brian, glad to see you're smart enough to own a Casio - I've a Pathfinder (found it w/pmnts. several yrs. back) and wouldn't have any other!! Hope ya read my previous msg. (re. Kiskyar). Was almost an Eagle Scout, but my dad wasn't a help/guide type! Take care, "God Bless", sincerely Randy.
Another video shows that you slide the slingshot tubing all the way onto the two metal pieces(before) you lock them into place and that will keep them from slipping off.
Really enjoying this series! Always enjoy your videos. I hope they do end up sending you that knife! The slingshot fail was hilarious, at least the knives were decent for the price lol.
You could try to put plastic tube even more down between sheath and metal part where tube is attached to. This way your sheath and metal part would holding plastic tube. Might work better than just slide down to where it can go in video.
The retention system is very close to the quick release on a lot of gear from the Vietnam era for the us army. Check out the ruck sacks and lbe's they have a strikingly similar system.
The one thing about metal hands is they get really cold to hold on to in very cold weather. You would need to put some sort of cover like gorilla tape on the handle.
Wow, your review must have worked wonders, the price more than doubled. 😀 For a “different” hollow handled knife, check the Cold Steel Bushman. I have three, with “crutch tips” closing the pommel end. Still need to invent a plug for the hilt end.
When you slide tight rubber onto metal, like a slingshot or bicycle grips, use hairspray, not spit. It acts as a lubricant when wet, as a glue when it dries.
I bought the Harbor Freight knock off of that knife for $7.99 and you can sharpen it to a razor's edge!, the "fishhook" that comes in the little kit had no eye so not sure how you would tie it off. The one thing I can see that you can do with it is if you get a pole that has the same threads at the end as on the end cap and you have a knife on a pole for those days you don't to get up close and personal with whatever animal that's attacking you.
At this point there are Chinese knives that are pretty good, but I'd hazard to guess this isn't one of them. Like you I suspect more and heavier use will show its flaws. Looks like a toy to me.
Pienso que el problema con la resortera es que la goma ya es vieja. Estuvo demasiado tiempo sin usarse y las gomas se resecan. Pienso que el sistema funcionaría bien si le cambia la goma por una nueva
a survival knife is such an important piece of gear - it could literally come down to life or death - it simply cant be a piece of garbage - the blade and handle have to be one piece - a few exceptions being some military bayonets - the only hollow handle knife i would trust with my life would be the glock knife - i know your just showing the absurdity of these "rambo" knives and thank you for exposing these toys for what they are - no one should under any circumstances ever trust their lives to such garbage - they would literally be putting themselves in danger due to mechanical failure - these are horrible knives and the people making and selling them should be ashamed of themselves
If Rambo had actually carried that knife, there wouldn't have been a Rambo 2, 3, etc. He wouldn't have killed the bad guy when the slingshot failed and he was shot dead. LOL Thanks for showing such a wide range of knife styles, quality, price, etc.
Walmart sells spare wrist rocket tubing with the pouch already on and when you get it on the 2 prongs its best to let them dry over night or so . To me that fail is just a minor set back. Also get some smaller rounder ammo for it. Ball bearings ect ect
Yeah, it looks like it. I tried t send them an email to see if they would send me one to review but they are in Spain so we'll see. I bought this one but the Jungle King is more than I can justify spending right now for a video.
I used my Harbor Freight $10 knife for a week in the woods. It did the job. I beat the hell out of it. The edge could use some sharpening. If that was all I had. I could make do.
Blade looks more like 3/16" thick, not 1/8". I would say 5/32" thick at the very least... It looked a full 8" in lenght, to the crossguard itself at least... That was just an excellent test, and it seemed to hold up better than the Russian Kizlyar... Hollow grinds by the way are excellent at relieving the "jolt" on the hand when chopping, and the wood pinches away from the edge, so they are not as weak as they seem... Even the saw was quite adequate for notches. The heavy handle machining looked excellent in its details, and overall it seemed like a very serious piece for the price... Maybe a tube of crazy glue in the handle for the slingshot? Great test!
The knife worked better than I expected it to work and the sling shot is a waste of money in many cases and I have one which I got from Wal-Mart which don't work either.
I know you have done reviews on them before but the hollow handled knives by Schrade would fit in this niche perfectly and be one of the best contenders imo.

The knife it's self, is also sold at Harbor freight, with a nylon sheth with a plastic insert. Inside there's a compass 🧭 and a mini fishing hook&line. This has a nice sheth. $14.95
Definitely not the same, Maxam much heavier and sturdier metal. Maybe not ultra high quality but I busted a cinder block with the edge of the Maxam and got a tiny hair chip. Harbor freight edge rolled and huge chip plus broke in half.

If you put some epoxy inside of the handle and were the screw in the handle .you should be good to go .
@Angelo Morte it sure does
@Survival On Purpose Theres another little secret under the paracord wrapped around the sheath, theres a sharpening stone
I really do like that knife .were can I buy one at .great video as all ways .have a great day .
You should check out the Tom Brown tracker knives
With the hollow handle knives I think a mini bic lighter would be some best use for that space.
you are right sir, the main problem with the bic lighter is the durability, so if we can protect it somehow, we can make use of its painless fire

I use a clipper lighter in mine. It’s perfectly round and fits great.

I have the Aitor 16016 Jungle King 1, this is a very good copy of that knife. Very impressive for the cost.
My brother had one of these when I was a teenager and its definitely better than the HF version.
Still not great but better.
Btw the diamond sharpener is on the sheath under the string wrap.
Maxam makes decent kitchen knives.
honestly for a beginner this is a good starter knife.
That sheath kit looks very much like the Aitor Jungle King that I bought in 1987. They sold for around $40 back then, and now they sell for over $200

Yes!
Not bad for the price, for a young beginner good review.
This knife looks absolutely awesome. I wish I could purchase one but they're not available to Australian buyers. Damn!!

Like your down to earth approach to the testing
Old ALICE packs have that type of lock retention at shoulder straps and also at old Vietnam ammunition pouches

That knife is a copy of the spanish Aitor Jungle King 1, which was started to be produced in 1985. Aitor is a good quality brand in Spain.
You could try to put plastic tube even more down between sheath and metal part where tube is attached to. This way your sheath and metal part would holding plastic tube. Might work better than just slide down to where it can go in video.

I put JB weld down inside the handile of this knife about 1" thick never had a problem choping with this knife after that.
I am no slingshot aficionado. You 'could' try some quality surgical tubing on it [walgreens ?]
I really like your videos

The tip breaks easily.
Because the handle is hollow it is going to be a weal point at the point the handle meats the blade.
The sharpening stone is under the cordage on the sheath.
Would a SCHF1 fit in this sheath?

Aitor Jungle King, since 1983 :-)
Get one from the 90s or earlier if possible. Aitor was bought by Grupo Pielcu, and now quality has suffered.
That's a nice knife.
Well that is definitely a pointy piece of metal. Should be useful for something.

The retention system is a plastic version of the system used on the Gunner's Belt in a military helicopter. I was always doubtful too.
Looks like a Spanish clip, like we have on our webbing pouches
That slingshot set up had no chance, but you could just get a better band for that and use the prongs on the sheath still.
Thank you for the video 👍🤟🤟
