Hello from Oklahoma! Its been awhile since I've commented. Haters gonna hate. If these bozos had ever gotten out in the woods and done anything. They would know. No matter what kind of knife you're carrying, you take care of it and utilize the tool for what it is. Not try to tear it up. These are the same bozos that you hand a shovel, ask them to dig and 5 minutes later the shovel handles broken. Thanks for all you do! Its good stuff! God Bless!

My first fixed blade was ine of the old 80s cheap survival knives but pot metal handle instead if plastic my grandfather gave me. So after 12\19 he passed away so this is a nice homage to him and the knife he started me with. I've watched all your tests of the Rambo series. I chose the Cold Steel Edge you tested. Only 6 oz. Way better sheath came with ferro rod and simple kit in handle lifetime warranty and razor sharp. For the price of that knife I can get 6 Cold Steels and not lug a knife weighing a over a pound around. That being said if this knife were 30 bucks I'd get one, looks like excellent quality. BUT I'd still carry the Cold Steel out in the field. Ounces equals pounds and pounds equals pain when backpacking. Great videos Brian. Long time subscriber.

I have tried many times and it is useless, even in the newer models. A knife is a knife, it is not supposed ti be a saw. May be a chopper, but not a saw.

I have owned this knife previously and though I really like it it lacks practicality and compared to modern knife designs there are are so many better choices. Also, I would never throw the original knife due to the delicate grind....it'll slice and stab like a scalpel but a pry bar it is not! I have more knives than I could flee with unless I employ a crew of Sherpa guides.......but I may add the First Blood knife back into the collection, well cuz it's cool! Bryan, as usual a well done video. Very interesting big knife. This has been a very engaging series. I agree with you, anything can be destroyed, IMHO it is much better to show how well knives do at the tasks we would actually ask them to accomplish. I appreciate you fast forwarding through the chopping portion but suggest it may be of some value to tell your viewers how long it took to get through the stick.
Just FYI. As we’ve discussed over the years i’ve owned 3 Chris Reeve hollow handled knives (all purchased decades ago when prices were reasonably affordable) and still own one. When I purchased my first one Chris told me he would warranty all these knives against breakage due to manufacturing defect. The only exception I recall was that Chris said his knives were not meant as throwing and if I broke it while throwing he would replace it on my dime. If I remember correctly this had to due with the the knives were tempered in the manufacturing process.

I think the statements made on the Harbor freight knife about you needing to sharpen the knife before use is a little ridiculous. A knife’s primary function is to cut things so I think having an expectation that a knife freshly out of the box should at least have a decently sharp edge is valid. It doesn’t have to be as sharp as it possible can be but it needs to be sharp enough for use.

Hello, I do have a knife that I would like you to check out. It is not a survival knife. Yet I do consider it to be a good camp knife. It is a full tang Buck. I bought this knife a number of years ago. I have no idea how much it cost. I just tried to lookup the model number for you and noticed that they don't make the same one any more. Any fixed blade buck would be interesting to me. Thank you! Fyi, mine is s30v steel if that helps.

Would you count the hollow handle schrade for this series? I know you have already reviewed it but might not be a bad idea to consider it for the series as well

That knife looks like a winner! What I don't understand is why all these knifemakers don't include a pouch on the sheath for a sharpening stone if they want to call it a true survival knife? many moons ago when Rambo First Blood came out, I ordered the copy of that knife, was very disappointed that it didn't match the movie sheath! if you look closely in the movie, you'll notice the sheath had a sharpening stone pouch. That's one main reason I bought an Ontario 499 Air Force survival knife because it included one. The Boker knife looks awesome, but yet again why couldn't they have added a stone pouch on the sheath??!! would that honestly bring the price up so much?? sorry but it aggravates the hell out of me. All of my favorite knives, some a lot more expensive than others also didn't include a stone pouch. I had to order custom sheaths that cost as much the knife or more!! Sick of it! sorry for my ranting.

That is a nylon cord wrap. Its not 550 though. Probably 425, which is so much better for handles IMO. I have the same cordage on my walking stick, Its awesome.

At least this gives anyone thinking of buying such knives an idea of their cost, quality and durability. It’s a good starting point for them. Bryan, here’s a link to some hollow handled survival knives you may not have seen. They all have Amazon links. survivalgearandfirstaid.com/survival-knife-hollow-handle/

Don't do this with a Buckmaster, the point is extremely fragile and they are collector's grade now. Apart from the thin point it is rock solid.

*Good video!* But let me add something very important -
I have been in the Boy Scouts, in the US Navy, in Alaska for nine (9) years, and must say this wisdom and/or fact on:
    "THE SURVIVAL KNIFE"
If you need a *"survival"* knife (that is a knife *"specially designed"* to be beefy/tougher/live threw a nuclear blast)
    to save your life then:
You really need training, teaching on basic outdoorsmanship, or something cause you are lacking.
All and most kinds knives can "help" you survive in a survival incident. The thing to remember with a knife or any tool is:
"ITS NOT THE TOOL - ITS THE MAN/WOMAN".
So the Finn Hawk, Fallkniven, Marttiini, Mora, or whatever you use (axe, saw, machete, garden shears, your mama's butcher cleaver, etc.),
they are good to have but they are all second (2nd) to your:
    - survival *knowledge*
    - and *"skill"* using that knowledge
Also - If you get into more than one (1) or two (2) real survival incident(s), you are a danger to yourself & all those with you, if they are relying on you.
    RANT MODE - *OFF*

@@SurvivalOnPurpose I guess you kind of see, I am not a fan of "survival" knives. Ever since *"Rambo: First Blood (1982)"* & to the recent release
*"Rambo: Last Blood (2019)",* I have seen these overhyped usually big bowie knives come to the market. In 1982 I was in the US Navy on a submarine and everyone thought these types of knives were a joke, especially the cheaper hollow ones with cheap compass & fishing kit.
Of course the *"survival" DO IT ALL knives* marketed today can work & have a following but they are really
marketed *just* for more money & are not nearly as effective as *just using the right tool for the right job.
      *Tricked by Marketing*
Anyway, just letting off some steam as I was that kid who bought the mini-spy camera & the see though clothes glasses as a kid
out of the back of comic books. That marketing fooled me & those product were just designed to take my allowance, not really to work.
      Stay happy & safe.

$200 for 440C made in China?!? A useless saw. Imo I'd get a Morakniv Bushcraft, Morakniv Camp Axe, Morakniv Eldris & a Bahco Laplander. Which is about $150

Glad to see this series. Schrade makes a completely one piece milled hollow handle knife (but you already knew that). Boker has a good reputation so I wouldn't be afraid to try this Apparo, though $175 is steep. You cannot get very many things in that small handle, but it is the concept of a Rambo type knife that is alluring, especially to young men. Any kid that likes camping would be thrilled on Christmas morning to get one of these. Thanks for what you do Brian.

@@SurvivalOnPurpose Rothco has made a knockoff of the buckmaster for a decade or more called the Ramster. Runs about $40. I would love to see the older Japan made knives from Valor, Parker, Fury, Taylor, etc. Not extremely hard to find or expensive on most models but not something you can buy new. I can provide link for the Ramster if you like.
